Chapter 8: About The Devil

The scorpions doubled the size of their army, all of them charging towards him at once.

Oscar shivered where he stood.

'This is impossible!'

He stared at them wide-eyed.

Suddenly the system beeped with a tap…

{Daily quest failed}

{Punishment: You won't be able to use magic for the next 12 hours}

{11:59:59}

"What the hell!" Oscar yelled in frustration.

As soon as his eyes returned to the battlefield he caught glimpse of a scorpions finger coming for his neck, but before he reached out to cut it off the young lady jumped in and punched it out of his face with clouds of darkness enshrouding her fists.

"You got my tutor killed, if we make it out of here alive. I'm killing you myself," she charged into them with her both hands covered in dark fog. She was basically gliding and boxing them in the air.

Oscar soon observed the fog that engulfed her hand wasn't just used as a boxing glove, it reshaped to a dagger, a shield, and whatever she wanted it to at a given time. Her power was darkness.

"She's pretty cool," Oscar stood on a spot with his eyes fixed on her. The way her body moved, its shape, her face. He was already developing a little something for her a little too early. "She can't handle them all on her own. I have to help her."

"Oh," Oscar slapped his head. "I can't even explode anymore until this stupid countdown is complete."

He stroke down one of them who was coming heads on for him and then retreated backwards by some steps holding the chainsword up to the ones who were now charging towards him.

Though his arms were visibly still in one piece, internally they bled of deep exhaustion.

'What do I do? What do I do?'

{Lvl 5}

{Game points: 500}

{Strength: 10/100}

{Agility: 10/100}

{Stamina: 10/100}

He kept on retreating as they emerged.

'No, I don't need speed right now. What does a tired person need to fight one last battle? Strength or stamina?' he contemplated within himself as he kept on retreating.

'Strength or Stamina?"

'I don't have enough points to build my stamina, I just want a drop of strength to finish this battle. I need a Hail Mary.'

{Strength: 12/100}

{Game points: 470}

"Huh! The cost increases by ten every time you upgrade."

{Strength: 19/100}

{Game Points: 50}

"HYYYYAAAH!" Oscar charged into them dragging his chainsword on the ground with one hand.

As soon as he made impact, he sliced five of them open in a row, leaving them in burning pieces.

In less than a minute he found himself in their middle. In the excitement of battle Oscar's memory slipped and he tried the explosion. It failed.

He tried it again almost instantly. With two failures in a row Oscar remembered the punishment. He can't use powers.

Even more unfortunately, with two failures in a row Oscar had left his sword idle, which enabled the scorpions to close up the little gap between them both.

Oscar faced his biggest challenge when their body started making contact with his, the lava that made their skin dripping on him, and slowly killing him.

In a split second his HP deteriorated rapidly, pain shattering the order in his head while red burns filled his skin like rashes. Some of them even bleeding.

{HP: 37/100}

Oscar swung his sword the best he could but he couldn't shake off the massive number that progressively surrounded him.

{HP: 20/100}

'Maybe I should just get out of here and let her fight them alone. If I stay, I'd die and the elixir is not yet—'

Oscar looked over to the girl's side and saw the once so energetic young lady with her foots finally on the ground, barely throwing punches.

'I can't do it. I can't let another innocent beautiful lady die because of me' Oscar yelled at himself.

The system beeped three times concurrently, each beep louder than the last…

{Bloodrage: High}

{Punishment mode}

{11:47:32}

{Activate Disposal}

In the same second that the message appeared a massive energy emitted from Oscar's body causing a massive explosion greater than the usual; this one exceeded in range and in strength.

Oscar fell on his knees and gasped, his face carved in wounds while his skin was bath with manifold blemishes.

{HP: 17/100}

Suddenly, Oscar's eyes stretched in fear. He stood up and looked around, squinting his eyes through the dust that covered the battlefield. He hasn't heard a single sound from the young lady since.

"Could this be…" he panicked. "Please no. No, no, no. Please no, please no, please no," he walked around looking for her thinking her had killed another innocent lady.

"What're you crying about?" a voice echoed from the dust. "You miss your mama already?" she walked in sight.

"Oh thank god," he sighed in relief when she kicked him in the nuts and put her palm on his head like a weapon as he fell on his knees. Her palm emitted thick black smoke.

"Who're you? And did you intentionally try to kill me with that move?"

"Ouch..." Oscar mumbled in pain and lay on the ground holding his nutsack. "I just saved your life!"

"They'd be back in a second. At least I'd have my revenge on you before they finish me off."

Oscar looked around quietly as a noise emerged from the dust. One scorpion didn't die.

He picked up his chainsword and struggled to get on his feet.

"Let that one go," the girl yelled at him. "If you kill him, the others will resurrect ."

"I still have a chance," she whispered to herself and ran from him, covering her path with the dark fog.

Oscar quickly abandoned the scorpion and pursued after her, "Hey, where are you going?"

She ignored him, covering her path with a trail of smoke as does the area around her.

Still Oscar chased her blindly with no clue of which direction he was headed. He only heard faint footsteps which he imagined to be hers and tiredly pursued after.

"Hey, wait up."

After a long run he started limping and running, his quick adrenaline-like moment was over and the fatigue was crawling inside him again.

He stopped and ducked down, panting heavily when she swept his legs off the ground and raised her hand at him again with a dark fog.

"What's a mortal doing in the land of the dead?"

'Oh, she's right. This is the underworld. I'm supposed to be dead to be here'

Oscar's faced quickly molded into fear as a thought entered him.

'Impossible! Did I die again? Did those fire and ice guys kill me?'

"Answer me," she yelled at him.

"Isn't the devil supposed to interrogate me first?" he responded sarcastically.

But somehow the girl's face saddened, "The demon king is dead."

"Huh!" Oscar was freaked out. "The devil is dead?"
