Chapter 27

Audrey’s POV

Dinner had always been routine growing up — conversation over carefully prepared food, polite smiles, and quiet judgment tucked between sips of wine. But tonight, the air was taut with something unfamiliar.

Expectation. Curiosity. Fear.

Finally the nock on the door comes. I open it before Ian could reach it. And there he was.

Drew.

In a dark, pressed button-up, hair tamed, tattoos mostly hidden. The only giveaway was the nervous quirk at the corner of his lips.

“Hi,” he said, his voice soft.

Ian barrelled past my legs and jumped straight into Drew’s arms. “You’re late!”

Drew laughed, catching him easily. “Traffic. But I brought bribes.”

He pulled out a small chocolate bar and handed it over with exaggerated secrecy. Ian’s eyes sparkled.

Their first encounter and they just click. My heart swells, looking at them acting like they've been like this forever.

Behind me, my father cleared his throat.

Right. Dinner.
