The Cave of Remnants (Part 2)

Chapter 26: The Cave of Remnants (Part 2)

The Curse Breaker

Captain Elara and Synoh attacked again in a synchronized rush — her blade blazing with thunder magic, his cutting with sharp precision. Yet every time they struck the ghost knight, he staggered back only to rise again like a puppet on strings.

"Nothing's working," Elara hissed, panting.

Fel's voice echoed in Synoh's mind, urgent and firm:

> "Use more of your power. The darkness in you… it's what this place fears. Unleash it, Synoh."

Synoh clenched his jaw. He hated relying on that part of himself, but the pain in the villagers' cries, the ghost knight's suffering, and Elara's trust — it all pushed him.

"Elara," he said. "Buy me time."

She glanced at him, immediately understanding. "Don't die on me."

He nodded and stepped back, plunging his sword into the ground. His eyes closed. His breathing slowed. Then—

A violent gust of cold wind swirled around him. The cave trembled. The temperature dropped.

Dark aura erupted from Synoh's body like a storm breaking free.

Every ghost in the cave froze in place. Even the ghost knight faltered.

"…That aura…" he rasped.

Synoh's body floated inches above the ground as the floor beneath him turned pitch black. Thick tendrils of shadow burst upward — dark hands — clawing their way out of the ground like vengeful spirits.

"STOP HIM!" the ghost knight roared. "Protect the seal!!"

The ghosts charged toward Synoh, but the black hands caught them mid-lunge, dragging them down into the shadows like drowning souls in a cursed sea. Screams echoed as one by one, the specters were consumed.

The ghost knight swung his blade wildly, trying to escape, but the darkness wrapped around his arms and legs.

"Who… are you… boy…?" he growled as he was pulled down into the black.

Synoh's eyes remained shut as the dark aura reached its peak—then vanished in a blink.

He collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

Silence filled the cave.

Then — a soft light — like a falling star, descended from above and floated toward the ancient grave behind the throne. The spectral chain that once bound it shattered in a flash of light.

The ghost knight's sword, now free of darkness, dropped beside Synoh.

Captain Elara rushed to his side, holding him up. "You did it…"

She looked around the cave — now quiet, now peaceful — the souls no longer bound.

Outside, the ghosts assaulting the village vanished into light particles. The battle ended in a breath.

Captain Alistair stood at the village gate, watching the mist fade. "They did it…"

Lux smiled softly, whispering, "Good job, Synoh."
