Chapter 29: "A Knock at the Door"

Aurora snuggled deeper into her bed, determined to get a good sleep. She closed her eyes, letting out a soft sigh as she began to drift off.

Just as she was about to fall asleep, a knock at the door interrupted her peaceful afternoon. Aurora groggily got out of bed, making her way downstairs to see who was at her door.

She opened the door to find Sophie, the new hottie from across the hall, standing on her porch with a friendly smile. Aurora's heart skipped a beat as she took in Sophie's striking features.

"Hi," Sophie said, her voice warm and inviting. "I hope I'm not disturbing you. I'm Sophie, your new neighbor."

Aurora shook off her sleepiness, returning Sophie's smile. "I'm Aurora. Nice to meet you."

Sophie's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Nice to meet you too, Aurora. I was wondering if you could help me with something. The shower in my bedroom isn't working, and I was wondering if you knew any good plumbers around here."

Aurora's mind went blank for a moment, her eyes fixed on Sophie's radiant smile. She shook her head, clearing her thoughts. "Uh, yeah. There's a great plumber just down the street. I can give you his number."

Sophie's face lit up with gratitude. "That would be amazing, thank you."

As Aurora searched for the plumber's number, Sophie couldn't help but notice the way Aurora's hair fell in soft waves down her back. She felt a flutter in her chest, surprised by her sudden attraction to the beautiful woman standing before her.

Sophie tried the plumber's number, but it wouldn't connect. She frowned, disappointed. "I guess he's not available."

Aurora smiled helpfully. "Don't worry, I can take you to his office. It's just down the street."

Sophie's eyes lit up with gratitude. "Really? You'd do that for me?"

Aurora nodded, heading towards her car. "Of course. We can't have you stuck without a shower, can we?"

As they drove through the charming streets, Sophie and Aurora started chatting, sharing their backgrounds and getting to know each other. They discovered a shared love for photography and hiking.

Sophie told Aurora about her life in New York City, her divorce, and her decision to start fresh in this small town. Aurora shared stories about her childhood, her relationship with Luna, and her passion for art.

As they talked, their initial awkwardness melted away, replaced by a sense of ease and connection. They laughed together, their eyes sparkling with amusement.

Before they knew it, they arrived at the plumber's office. Aurora parked the car, and they got out, stretching their legs.

As they waited for the plumber to arrive, Sophie turned to Aurora with a smile. "Thank you so much for bringing me here. I really appreciate it."

Aurora smiled back, feeling a sense of friendship blossoming between them. "No problem, Sophie. It was great getting to know you."

Sophie's eyes sparkled with warmth. "Likewise, Aurora. Maybe we can grab coffee sometime and continue our conversation?"

Aurora's heart skipped a beat at the suggestion, but she pushed aside any doubts, feeling a genuine connection with Sophie. "I'd love that."

As the plumber arrived, Sophie and Aurora exchanged numbers, their unlikely friendship born in the unlikeliest of circumstances..
