Resources are not easy to farm as a low-level player. Every cactus has at least one scorpion buried near it. If it senses that the cactus has been destroyed, it will come up furiously to attack the player. The reason for its anger isn't really a bad one, but we will talk about that later.
3 giant scorpions popped out of the sand in the place where Marco was standing. He quickly dodged backwards at the nick of time. Giant scorpions are one of the reasons no one chooses the desert, knowing the amount of loot in it. These scorpions' attack patterns were simple, just a top attack with a stinger and a side slash with their pincers. They do randomly use a ram attack pattern sometimes.
They have a simple attack pattern, but they are not simple to kill. Let's talk about its weak points and Marco's weapon. Marco had a Dissecting knife which could not penetrate the scorpion's outer defence shell. Its weak points are its eyes and the shell under its body, a.k.a. the area that is facing the ground.
There are 2 easy ways to kill the scorpion. 1) stab its eyes and hope that your weapon is long enough to reach its brain. This was not possible as Marco only had a knife. 2) rush towards the scorpion, dodge its side swipe attack and be fast enough to slide under the scorpion and cut its soft spots.
Dungeons and Thrones is an extremely realistic game, and if there is one thing commonly known to all players, it is the weak points. There was a veteran in the forum who wrote, " Weak points are baits made to kill low-level players". Let me explain- Marco put 10 points into agility, increasing his speed. These scorpions were level 3. If he didn't put all of his points into agility, he cannot dodge the sideswipe, and if he did, then he will die before he slides under the scorpion from the stinger attack.
After he completes phase 1, there is another problem. After the scorpion is stabbed in its soft spot/after the player slides under it, the scorpion uses its needle-sharp legs to move sideways, dealing damage to the player. The player might kill this scorpion and survive if lucky, but he will enter a bleeding state, which reduces his stats by 20%, and the player loses 3-5% health every 10 seconds.
With reduced stats, the player cannot do this trick again to another scorpion, and the player will either die from bleeding or from a scorpion's attack. You need to kill 2 scorpions to level up, and guess what, you don't heal back to full health every time you level up.
Marco, knowing all of this information, chose a different method. One he invented while playing in the desert countless times. This cannot be implemented by most veterans, but he had the confidence. Marco dodged all of the scorpion's slow attacks and jumped onto the back shell of the scorpion. The scorpion tried to attack him with its only option- its stinger.
Marco dodged the attack while still standing on top, but the scorpion stopped before hitting its own back. Other scorpions rushed to his area and attacked Marco with their stingers. But these scorpions don't know that they are about to hit the scorpion's back with their force.
*Clang * Clang
The armour on top of the scorpion's head broke, exposing some of the scorpion's skin. Marco took this opportunity to stab the scorpion with his knife, dealing critical damage. He punched the Dissecting knife to deal another critical damage. The scorpion screamed before falling down. Its legs no longer stood on the sand, but sank into the sand.
These unintelligent, low-level monsters rushed towards the player. Both scorpions climbed onto the corpse of the scorpion to attack Marco with a side swipe. 2 scorpions climbed on top of the corpse side by side, so it left some space to see the soft skin from the ground. Now they were high, so they could not stab Marco with their small legs when Marco stabbed the scorpion from standing in the sand.
Marco rushed to the sand. The scorpions, although unintelligent, instinctively felt that Marco was going to their weak spot. But alas, they are not as fast as Marco, who slid under the scorpion and slashed its soft skin, dealing critical damage. He then threw his dagger to stab the cut area to deal another critical hit and to kill the scorpion.
The remaining scorpion was scared but noticed that Marco did not have his weapon. Using his as a chance, the scorpion charged at him. What the scorpion didn't know was that Marco had levelled up. He swiftly put all of his unallocated stat points into strength and dodged its ram attack.
Marco did not waste time taking out the Dissecting knife and rushed towards the monster. This time Marco dodged its attacks and landed on its head. But he chose to stab its eye and punched the dagger with his newfound strength, sending it straight to its brain.
With this, the only thing left was 3 fresh corpses of giant scorpions. Marco quickly removed the Dissecting knife from the scorpion's eye and looked at its durability. One-fourth of its durability was already gone. " I should stick to fighting with my hands for now", said Marco with a disappointed face.
DISSECTING DAGGER(rare)- a dagger specially used for dissecting a monster corpse
SPECIAL EFFECT: If the durability of the knife is more than 50%, this knife will not lose durability when dissecting a corpse.
Marco swiftly dissected all three Giant scorpions and gained 3 stingers full of paralysis poison, 6 pincers,1 raw meat and 3 scorpions' bladders. Marco got lucky as the probability of gaining a proper raw meat from the scorpion was not the field of a Dissector.
Dissector is a subdivision of the Butcher subclass. Butcher subclass gives average meat and body parts upon butchering a corpse. But a Dissecter gains maximum possible body parts and slim to none raw meat. This meat was going to be the only source of food until Marco reached his planned destination.
The reason Marco chose Dissecter over Butcher is because Butcher's subclass only yields a butcher's cleaver, which cannot stab a scorpion and can only be used for slashing. The Scorpion's bladder is not a food source but an oil reserve!! The bladder contains pure oil that starts a fire upon lighting it. This is crucial for his next destination. He then went back, dissected and collected the cactus sticks to use them as a torch.
This destination is none other than RUINS. These ruins contain 2 advantages that Marco really needs. 1) a 'safe' place to spend his first night. 2) To get his first proper Skill from the ruins, preferably a MAGIC SKILL.
