Chapter 68 - The Simpler, the Better

Seventeen minutes later, Tiger Lee arrived at the slum, drenched in sweat.

He was late!

King of Horizon had asked him to arrive within 15 minutes, so he had sped all the way, running red lights and even reaching 200 miles an hour. But it had taken him a few extra minutes to buy the pen and paper. Despite driving fast, he had still arrived seventeen minutes later.

Two minutes late…

What a massive mistake!

Back in Billionaire, King of Horizon had killed his boss, Dracul, with just one breath, in the blink of an eye. The mere thought of this sent cold shivers down his spine.

"I'm two minutes late. It's all my fault! Your Highness, please forgive me!" Tiger Lee rushed out of his car, ran over to John, and fell to his knees, his head bowing deeply as sweat dripped from his forehead. Soon, a pool of water formed on the ground beneath him.

Everyone present could see just how terrified he was.

Tom and Moise, lying beside him and wailing, were stunned by the scene.

They couldn't believe their ears: Tiger Lee had just called John "Your Highness"?

They glanced at John briefly.

In the U.S., only one person was worthy of being called "Your Highness": the King of Horizon.

Was this young man before them the King of Horizon?

Tiger Lee's guilty expression confirmed their guess.

In an instant, Tom and Moise felt their hearts gripped by an invisible force.

How could this absurd situation be happening to them? They were just small-time gangsters, yet they had stirred up trouble in front of the King of Horizon!

Life was truly full of surprises.

Tiger Lee remained on his knees.

John looked at him calmly and said, "Forget it. Two minutes aren't a big deal. Get up."

"Thank you for your generosity, Your Highness!"

It was a narrow escape. Tiger Lee kowtowed several times before finally standing up. As he did, he recognized Moise, who was lying there motionless, as though paralyzed. In a fit of rage, he rushed to him and stomped on his face.

"You son of a bitch! How dare you offend the King of Horizon? Do you want to die?"

Furious, he pressed his foot down hard on Moise's face.

What bothered him wasn't that Moise had offended the King of Horizon. He couldn't care less about Moise's fate. What infuriated him was that this stupid Moise had nearly dragged him into deep trouble!

"You asked the King of Horizon to forgive you for my sake? Ha! Are you insane? How could I compare to His Highness? You've gotten me into serious trouble!" Tiger Lee cursed Moise in his mind.

He was now filled with both fear and anger.

At that moment, John coughed and said, "You've hit the wrong person."

"What?" Tiger Lee turned in shock.

Moise, on the verge of tears, used his last ounce of strength to point at Tom lying beside him and muttered, "He started it…" Then he fainted.

"What the fuck! It's you!" Tiger Lee, embarrassed by his mistake, realized that he had beaten the wrong person. What else could he do but turn to beat Tom instead?

And so, Tom was knocked unconscious by Tiger Lee as well.

Afterward, Tiger Lee approached John with an ingratiating smile. "What do you think, Your Highness?"

John nodded. "I don't want to see Tom in New York again. Also, there's a mother and her daughter living there. Send someone to protect them. Do it quietly. Don't disturb their lives."

"Understood, Your Highness!" Tiger Lee quickly gave the orders.

He then called several men to drag Moise and Tom away. As for what would happen to them, that was no longer John's concern.

"Madam, everything is settled. That bastard will never bother you again," John said as he entered the house.

"Thank you so much, Doctor Lopez! You saved us again. We truly don't know how to repay your kindness," the woman said, tears streaming down her face as she knelt to express her gratitude.

John hurried over and helped her up. "No need to thank me. It was nothing, just a small favor. My elder sister was slandered at the Feazer Medical Clinic, and it was you who stepped forward to prove her innocence."

"Actually, we didn't do much."

"How could you say that? My sister and I are truly grateful for your help."

John smiled and comforted her. He then turned to Anny, gently rubbing her face. "I haven't given you a gift yet, even though we've known each other for so long!"

"Please, don't say that, Doctor Lopez. You've already helped me get rid of my cold-hearted husband. How can we accept more gifts?" the woman quickly responded.

Anny added, "Big brother has been so kind to me. I really like big brother."

"Don't worry, Madam. It's not an expensive gift. Just a small token of my appreciation."

John understood that the woman, being simple and kind-hearted, wouldn't accept something extravagant. So he had Tiger Lee buy a pen and paper, then painted a picture right there.

In the picture, there was a sea of flowers under a bright sun, and a little girl was happily running along a path.

This girl was how John imagined Anny would look when she grew up. He captured her likeness in his mind as he painted.

He put as much effort into this painting as he had when creating the Blooming Rose for Alice.

The woman gazed at the painting in awe. "What a beautiful painting! You're truly exceptional, Doctor Lopez!"

Though the woman wasn't a connoisseur, she could still tell the difference between good and bad art. Doctor Lopez's painting was vivid, with the sunlight in the picture seemingly reaching into her heart.

It filled her with warmth and a sense of innocence.

All the unhappiness in her life seemed to disappear at that moment.

After finishing the painting, John smiled and said to Anny, "The name of this painting is 'Happy Anny.' It's a gift for you. Do you like it?"

"Yes, I love it! I feel so happy, big brother," Anny clapped her hands in delight.

John's face brightened.

"Happy Anny."

It was a simple, childlike name. But true kindness and innocence in the world have never been as complicated as people often think.

The simpler, the better.

Wasn't that true?
