I’ve read 6 chapters, and how I would describe the story so far is that it’s quiet, slow, and comforting. I imagine the setting to be somewhere rural, and the angles for each character are relatable.

Expectations: We’ve now been introduced to the source of Noah’s pain, which makes me very much look forward to seeing how she heals. And also anticipating more page time for Felix.

There are areas to improve on in terms of writing, but I believe that the author can only get better as she continues writing.

The first few chapters of this story is reminiscent of the beginning of chapter 2 of The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I’m reminded of “A typical day in Carriveau.” If you love historical books, add this to your collection.


The story was pretty amazing.
The author does a great job showing how broken people can still find hope and strength through love. The characters feel real, and their pain is easy to relate to. The story moves at a nice pace, with moments that make you smile and others that make you tear up. While some parts are a bit predictable, it doesn’t take away from the overall impact. It’s a heartfelt read for anyone who enjoys romance with real emotions.

The greatest strength of this novel is its emotional authenticity. Noah is a protagonist you want to root for: intelligent, kind, hardworking, but also deeply scarred by loss. Her journey from idyllic family life to enduring tragedy and learning to trust (and maybe love) again is painted with sensitivity and realism
The novel does not rush her healing process—it lingers on grief, resilience, and the bittersweetness of memories.

2. Slice of Life with Subtle Tension
This story shines in its day-to-day details: herbal shop routines, village gossip, rainy mornings, and sisterly banter with friends like Rachel. Scenes like Noah caring for her sick brother Aster, or working at the shop, create a sense of real community and comfort—a hallmark of the best slice-of-life romances. Yet, beneath the peaceful surface, there is always a subtle undercurrent of longing and the fear of more loss

3. Vivid Descriptions & Immersive Worldbuilding
Descriptions of the landscape, food, and daily life are lush and sensory: “Droplets of rain dews seeping through the stems of maple tree… birds chirping a unique melody…” The author masterfully establishes Henzville as a living village, making readers feel present in every season and festival. The herbalism details add uniqueness, and the focus on women's independence is refreshing for the genre

4. Natural, Heartfelt Dialogue
Character interactions—especially between Noah and her friends/family—are genuine, full of teasing, warmth, and subtext. The friendship between Noah and Rachel, for example, feels authentic, complete with inside jokes and awkward, unspoken pain about the past. Even the secondary cast (like Max, the gentle carpenter) is given personality and memorable quirks

5. Gentle Romantic Build-Up
The romantic elements are slow-burn, which fits the healing theme. Noah’s initial connection with Felix is more about mutual understanding and comfort than immediate passion. The way the narrative balances fear, hope, and anticipation makes the romance believable and sweet

Suggestions:
1. Occasional Pacing Lulls
The focus on daily life and introspection is beautiful, but some scenes can feel a little slow—especially for readers who crave dramatic conflict. Consider adding more chapter-end “hooks” or foreshadowing to keep momentum strong without sacrificing the cozy mood.

2. Some Repetition in Internal Monologue
Noah’s grief and longing are vital to the story, but her reflections can sometimes circle the same emotions. Trimming or varying these inner thoughts could keep the narrative sharper and more impactful.

3. Secondary Characters Could Get More Depth
While the main cast is charming, some side characters (like Aster, Max’s wife, or village elders) could be fleshed out further. A little more backstory or distinct habits would make the community feel even richer.

4. Occasional Language/Grammar Hiccups
The prose is generally smooth, but a few sentences feel awkward or directly translated. A quick round of editing for idiomatic English and natural flow would raise the novel’s polish for a global audience.
