Hero ceremony (2)

The town of Fairview.

This wasn't a very big town, but it was currently very lively since it was the place where the hero ceremony was being held.

Since this was an important ceremony that was sponsored by not only the kingdom, but also the holy church, it was an event that many people paid attention to.

It was also the place where many people hoped would be their starting point.

This was where they hoped that they would be able to obtain the title of hero, elevating their rank in one go.

Since this was an event that was jointly being held by the kingdom and the holy church, with her status as the saintess of the holy church, Saintess Amy attracted quite a bit of attention when she arrived in Fairview.

Especially since they were no longer hiding their identities.

The maids turned into priestesses and the guards turned into paladins.

This was without a doubt a carriage that was worthy of the saintess.

The only thing that was out of place was me.

Sitting in the carriage with the saintess, it really seemed like I was in the wrong place.

However, Saintess Amy was the one that insisted on me sitting in the carriage with her.

"You are my saviour and I said that I would bring you to the hero ceremony. Are you going to make me break my promise?"

When she looked at me with this stubborn and slightly angry look, I had no choice but to acquiesce. Though in reality, it wasn't as if there was any threat that came from her.

It was almost as if a squirrel was threatening me with the way that she looked at me.

Even though she didn't mind, that didn't mean that others didn't mind. Especially with how open this carriage was.

The carriage had been changed for an open kind that could be seen into. Even though it was dangerous for the saintess to ride like this, the guards that had turned into paladins wouldn't let anything happen.

Now that they were fully equipped, they were naturally stronger than before.

The problem was that I could be seen as well.

"Who is that?"

"Why is he riding with the saintess?"

"How is this fair?"

There were many such complaints that could be heard from the crowd.

Only I really didn't have a choice.

It wasn't as if I wanted to be in this carriage, it was just that whenever I wanted to get out…

"Are you leaving me?"

Saintess Amy would look at me with big wide eyes as she said this.

I made sure that I didn't do anything while we were in front of the crowd since I knew that it would be worse if she actually showed this side to the crowd.

If they were to see her like this while she was with me, there was no doubt that they would blame it on me.

As such, all I could do was sit there while listening to the whispers from the crowd around me.

I acted like I didn't hear a thing as I focused on what was in front of us.

There was only one main church in this town and that was the place that this hero ceremony was being held.

As for why it was being held in this place.

That was all because this was the final resting place of the former hero.

Because of that, it meant that this was a place that was considered holy ground when it came to heroes. That was why it was also the place where the next hero would be chosen.

After going down the main street of the town, we finally arrived in front of the church.

There were a bunch of people that were waiting there for us, but the paladins quickly cleared the path. It wasn't as if just anyone would be allowed to approach the saintess.

It was only the lord of this town that was allowed to come over.

However, he just completely ignored me as his attention was on Saintess Amy. It was almost as if he was treating me like I didn't exist at all.

I can't say that I was surprised by this. Rather, what I was surprised by was the reaction that Amy had.

"There's no need for flattery. Just bring us to the altar of the hero."

The lord was completely taken aback when he heard this, but there wasn't anything that he could say since he was just a lord of this small town. If it wasn't for the hero ceremony, there was no doubt that he would have even less influence than he currently had.

So it wasn't as if he could say anything to the saintess of the holy church.

As such, the lord had no choice but to lead Amy towards the altar.

Though it was clear that he had some other thoughts when he saw Amy waving her hand at me to follow. It was clear that he didn't think that I had any right to come with them.

However, I just ignored him and followed behind Amy.

This was the main reason that I had come in the first place, so it wasn't as if I would let this random noble in the middle of nowhere stop me.

Once we arrived at the altar, Amy just waved her hand at the noble as if she was dismissing him.

"Saintess, this doesn't seem appropriate…" When he said this, his eyes were clearly aimed at me.

Only Amy knitted her brows hearing this before saying, "Are you telling me what I should do?"

The lord couldn't help trembling when he heard this before looking at Amy with a confused look. Only it didn't seem like she was interested in hearing what he had to say as she waved her hand at him again to dismiss him.

The lord had no choice but to leave with an aggrieved look, but he made sure to glare at me before leaving.

Once he was gone, Amy looked at me with a smile as she asked, "Are you ready?"
