"Hmm... that old guy won't get here too quickly. Let's wait for now. In the meantime, I'll teach you how to improve your control over the first level of the Power of Darkness. Come—try stripping the light in front of me. Make me lose my vision. I won't resist."
Huo Yuhao was a little confused. Strip the light in front of someone? So, he needed to remove the light from the area within Long Xiaoyao's line of sight?
He circulated the strand of darkness energy he had completely absorbed, focusing it. Before long, a patch of darkness formed in front of Long Xiaoyao, engulfing his head.
Long Xiaoyao casually walked out of the area and turned to look at him, his face calm. Huo Yuhao suddenly felt a little foolish.
Right—people can move. He had only removed the light in a fixed area. Of course it wouldn't be effective for long.
Long Xiaoyao chuckled.
"Little Yuhao, you noticed it yourself. Stripping someone's vision like that isn't particularly refined. But in battle, hitting a stationary enemy with that kind of surprise can still throw them off for a moment."
"But let me ask you this: if someone stays within that darkness and loses vision, do you think they're completely blind to what's outside?"
Huo Yuhao furrowed his brows, thinking. Then, realization struck. Just because a Soul Master's eyes couldn't see didn't mean they were completely blind—they could still rely on spiritual perception.
"With spiritual power… if someone relies on spiritual sense, then even within a lightless zone, it's not truly dark."
Huo Yuhao murmured, and Long Xiaoyao nodded in satisfaction.
"Exactly. But little Yuhao—do you think the Power of Darkness that us darkness-type Soul Masters possess is really that shallow?"
Of course Huo Yuhao shook his head. He remembered vividly how, during their first encounter, Long Xiaoyao's dark domain had completely sealed off his spiritual sense. It had felt like being submerged in a bottomless pit.
"Do you know why I've decided to teach you how to wield the Power of Darkness? It's not just because of your unique balance of Destruction and Life, but also because your spiritual power far surpasses others at your level. Merging darkness with spiritual energy is a favored method of elemental Soul Masters—it has immense potential. Try again—this time, fuse your spiritual power with your darkness."
The moment Long Xiaoyao said that, something clicked in Huo Yuhao's mind.
'So if I want to take the path of multi-element manipulation, it's not impossible after all.'
He closed his eyes and began fusing his spiritual energy with that small reserve of darkness within him. To his surprise, manipulating the darkness became noticeably easier.
This time, instead of merely dimming a fixed area, he silently stripped Long Xiaoyao's light altogether. To any outsider, it looked like nothing had changed—yet Long Xiaoyao's vision was completely gone.
Long Xiaoyao blinked in surprise. His view had gone pitch black, and his spiritual sea was subtly locked down by Huo Yuhao's spiritual touch.
'He's... severed my spiritual sense from perceiving light? Fascinating.'
For a brief moment, Long Xiaoyao found himself genuinely excited for what the future might hold between them as master and student.
With a flick of his power, Long Xiaoyao shattered the darkness suppression. Huo Yuhao grunted and the darkness was forcibly ejected back into his body.
Truthfully, Long Xiaoyao had been completely relaxed just now. Without his cooperation, there was no way Huo Yuhao could have stripped away his light so easily.
"Not bad, not bad at all. Little Yuhao, you've already reached a level most couldn't without a darkness-type martial soul. All you need now is to refine your fusion of spiritual and darkness power. The day you can strip me of light while I'm resisting even just one percent—that's the day I'll teach you a domain skill I created myself. You've seen it before."
Huo Yuhao's heart skipped. A self-created domain-type soul skill? That was exceedingly rare—even more so than self-created techniques.
He guessed it must be that terrifying dark domain he'd witnessed before—a skill that locked down vision and spiritual perception. If he learned that...
'Wouldn't I end up with an absurd number of domain skills? Am I even going to need combat techniques anymore, or should I just stack domains and win by default?'
Before Long Xiaoyao could speak again, a sharp gust of wind howled from several kilometers away. Huo Yuhao sensed a powerful figure rapidly approaching, and it didn't take much to figure out who it was.
Looking amused, Long Xiaoyao laughed.
"Heh, just as I thought. That old guy's here. Little Yuhao, stay here, watch closely, and learn something."
With that, Long Xiaoyao pushed off lightly and soared into the sky toward the approaching figure.
Huo Yuhao, now accustomed to his teacher's unpredictable nature, grew excited.
'This might be interesting.'
He activated his spiritual detection domain and focused on the distant sky.
Within seconds, Long Xiaoyao had closed the distance. Blocking the path of the incoming powerhouse, he floated in the air, unbothered.
The man confronting him was tall, muscular, and wild-looking, with blazing red hair cascading down his back. His expression was furious.
He was Yan Chifeng—Fire Lion Douluo, a well-known Titled Douluo in the Sun Moon Empire.
Unlike most of the empire's Titled Douluo, who were Level 9 Soul Engineers, Yan Chifeng was a pure combat-type Soul Master. His martial soul, the Blazing Fire Lion King, was the kind of wild beast soul known to dominate remote mountain ranges.
Yan Chifeng disliked human society, preferring to live like a beast in seclusion. His eccentricity had earned him a bit of fame, and the empire's royal family had only managed to convince him to live near Mingdu by promising him benefits and minimal obligations.
Today, he'd finally taken a break from cultivating inside a geothermal cave to go fishing—and then the sky suddenly turned black as night, spooking nearby soul beasts and ruining his peace.
His anger flared.
He glared at Long Xiaoyao.
"Was this your doing?"
Long Xiaoyao grinned.
"Indeed, wild man. Displeased? Come now—look at this beautiful dark sky. Isn't it breathtaking?"
Calling him a "wild man" was a surefire way to make Yan Chifeng explode. It wasn't the first time he'd been mocked for his lifestyle. Most who did… didn't end well.
With a beast-like roar that echoed across the land, Yan Chifeng released his martial soul—the Blazing Fire Lion King—and terrifying heat surged outward.
Long Xiaoyao remained unfazed, smiling as he watched Yan Chifeng release his rings.
"Two yellow, one purple, six black. Hah—not bad, for a wild man."
Far away, Huo Yuhao's blood surged with excitement.
'Master, don't just flatten him in one hit! At least let me enjoy the show!'
The roaring lion phantom towered behind Yan Chifeng, exuding pressure. Long Xiaoyao responded in kind, his own martial soul—the Dark Holy Dragon—emerging with a majestic cry that drowned out the lion's roar.
On Long Xiaoyao's body, two yellow, one purple, four black, and two red rings glowed ominously.
'That's... two 100,000-year soul rings?! And if I count the ones from Ye Xishui and Mu En… that's at least eight in total! Just how many did they kill?! Why hasn't Di Tian retaliated?'
Huo Yuhao was stunned.
Yan Chifeng, wild and enraged, didn't care. With his fifth ring shining, he struck with his signature soul skill—Blazing Lion King Fist, a brutal combo of speed, strength, and fire.
Long Xiaoyao casually raised one finger.
"Strip."
A tiny black sphere appeared at the tip of his finger, collapsing like a star into a singularity—then exploded outward like a supernova. Yan Chifeng was thrown back violently, his fire turning pitch black.
Huo Yuhao's jaw dropped.
'He stripped the light from the flame's element—turned beastfire into deathfire?!'
Snow Empress confirmed it in his mind.
"Indeed. That flame's light was removed. Now, instead of empowering him, it devours him."
Yan Chifeng howled in pain, his flames now corrupted and burning him from within. He hurriedly suppressed the dark fire, abandoning his beastfire entirely.
But the humiliation was too much. He struck again, only for Long Xiaoyao to murmur a second word.
"Strip."
Suddenly, Yan Chifeng was blind. No vision, no spiritual sense—just endless darkness.
He flailed, launching soul skills in every direction, but Long Xiaoyao didn't move an inch. Eventually, drained of energy, Yan Chifeng hovered limply in the air.
".…Please withdraw your divine power. I was too impulsive earlier."
Long Xiaoyao stroked his beard with a smile.
"Now then, what do you think of this beautiful black sky?"
Yan Chifeng nearly coughed up blood.
"Beautiful. So very beautiful."
"Glad to hear it."
Only then did Long Xiaoyao lift the darkness and restore his senses.
