Chapter 105: First Layer of the Power of Darkness

In the end, Huo Yuhao couldn't talk Meng Hongchen out of it—so fine, they'd drink. Ever since transmigrating, he hadn't tasted alcohol anyway. He was curious about what it might be like in this world.

As they chatted halfheartedly, Huo Yuhao's mind drifted back to Long Xiaoyao's lonely figure. He understood perfectly well what Long Xiaoyao had gone through, and why he had seemed so desolate earlier.

But even Long Xiaoyao probably didn't know that Ye Xishui's true feelings had always been for him. The tangled mess between the three of them wasn't something that could be fixed by just speaking the truth. The real culprit behind all that had happened was the painful clash between brotherly loyalty and romantic love.

'Maybe I should find a chance to kill that old guy in the Sea God's Pavilion... Then my poor teacher wouldn't have to live with the guilt and could be with Ye Xishui instead?'

Yeah, right.

Huo Yuhao did genuinely want to get on Long Xiaoyao's good side—if nothing else, it might reduce how much Ye Xishui would trouble him in the future.

The red wine was brought over soon after. It seemed the server's attitude had improved after seeing they were acquainted with Long Xiaoyao.

Meng Hongchen, who had never had alcohol before, looked as giddy as a child. She eagerly set the two glasses in place and took the initiative to pour the wine herself.

Huo Yuhao watched her adorable enthusiasm with a smile. Since she insisted on experiencing the effects of alcohol without using soul power to neutralize it, he decided he wouldn't follow suit. Someone had to stay sober just in case.

And so, the two of them enjoyed their wine and finished off the last of the grilled meat. The red wine from this restaurant was famous, and it truly lived up to its name. Before they knew it, the bottle was empty.

Thanks to his use of soul power, Huo Yuhao was perfectly fine. But Meng Hongchen? Not so much. As expected, she got drunk. The senior slumped sideways, cheek pressed against the table, mumbling dazedly.

"Yuu... Yuhao... grilled fish... Yuhao..."

Her slurred voice, muffled by her position, sounded incredibly cute.

Huo Yuhao thought, 'You really don't look very smart right now.'

"Senior, can you still walk properly?"

The user "Meng Hongchen" you are trying to reach is currently unavailable. Please try again later.

Feeling helpless, Huo Yuhao was just about to carry her home when she suddenly jolted upright—and then wrapped her arms tightly around him.

And then… she licked his face?

"Hehehe... grilled fish smells so good..."

Huo Yuhao froze in place. The other diners in the restaurant were all casting strange glances their way.

'Nope. This can't happen in public. If you're gonna do something like that, at least wait until we're home!'

He hurriedly pushed her back, then gently let her lean onto his back and easily lifted her up. As he stood, he could still feel her trying to sneak in more slow, slippery licks.

He had no choice. He hastily left some money for the meal, then fled the restaurant with Meng Hongchen on his back.

Thankfully, on the way home, Meng Hongchen stopped trying to nibble him and instead dozed off, softly snoring.

Once they reached the residence, Huo Yuhao stood downstairs and hesitated. In the end, he decided against entering through the front door.

If Jing Hongchen caught sight of his granddaughter's flushed, drunken face, she'd definitely be in for a long lecture. So, Huo Yuhao leapt lightly to the second floor, opened the window to her room, and climbed in with her in his arms.

He gently laid her down on the bed, tucked her in, and patted her head. As he looked at her cute, doll-like sleeping face, he couldn't resist leaning in and planting a soft kiss on her forehead before quietly leaving the room.

Moments later, the supposedly asleep Meng Hongchen opened her eyes and sat up.

She hadn't been drunk for a while.

"Hmph. Useless."

Meng Hongchen puffed her cheeks in annoyance. 'I pretended to be that drunk and all I got was a forehead kiss? Then he just left? That's it?'

Still, she was satisfied. A kiss was a kiss.

Even though she'd hoped for more, she knew Huo Yuhao was someone with strong principles—he wouldn't take advantage of her, even if she had really been drunk.

Touching the spot on her forehead where Huo Yuhao had kissed her, she smiled happily.

Truth be told, she had been drunk earlier. But then she used soul power to suppress the alcohol's effects and faked being drunk to bait him.

Now, Meng Hongchen released her soul power's suppression—so the wine's effects came rushing back. Unsurprisingly, the senior who couldn't handle alcohol properly flopped back down and passed out for real.

"You've already mastered the first level of the Power of Darkness: the ability to strip light—and return it."

The next morning, Long Xiaoyao took Huo Yuhao to a remote, quiet place and began his second lesson.

"However, even within this first level, different levels of strength yield very different results. Little Yuhao, let me ask you: do you think you could strip the light from the sun?"

Huo Yuhao shook his head. Strip the sun's light? Was that a joke?

"Correct. The sun possesses this world's most extreme light and fire elemental forces. Only a deity-level darkness expert could strip the sun's light. Of course, your Sun Martial Soul wielded by the imperial family of the Sun Moon Empire also contains light and fire elements—but it's nowhere near the true sun's level."

"Even so, I—being the world's only Darkness-attribute Ultimate Douluo—am unmatched when it comes to manipulating the Power of Darkness. Watch closely."

Huo Yuhao looked on as Long Xiaoyao raised his hand toward the sky and slowly curled his fingers into a loose grip.

In that moment, the bright morning sky darkened instantly. It was as if night had fallen. The entire heavens turned pitch black—without a single star in sight.

This terrifying ability left Huo Yuhao speechless. He realized that Long Xiaoyao had stripped an entire portion of the sky of its light. He could still see the horizon glowing normally in the far distance.

Thankfully, they were far from Mingdu, in a scarcely populated mountainous area. Otherwise, this unnatural sight would have caused widespread alarm.

In fact, even now, the eerie change in the sky had already caught the attention of a few nearby reclusive powerhouses.

Long Xiaoyao showed no intention of dispelling the darkness. Calmly, he said:

"Today, I'll teach you how to refine your mastery of the first level of the Power of Darkness—and how to wield it in real combat. Hmph. Words are empty. Watch and learn."

He paused, then added with a grin,

"I hear there's a Titled Douluo living in seclusion nearby? Hehehe..."

Huo Yuhao was speechless.

'This old man really is an evil geezer through and through…'

He glanced up at the unnaturally dark sky, then looked at the laughing Long Xiaoyao.

'What is this, Grandpa Bident summoning Batman with a sky projector?'
