Huo Yuhao was quite satisfied with the newly acquired necromantic spell he had just learned. Technically speaking, it was actually the second necromantic spell he had mastered—the first being the Heart of Undead Oblivion. But compared to an actual spell, that technique was more like a mental state—one accessible only to those who possessed necromantic energy. It didn't require chanting or active learning, just a natural result of soul cleansing.
"Alright, next step."
But the next step wasn't immediately testing the Summon Descent spell on the rabbit's soul. After all, he needed to find a suitable undead creature for it to inhabit first.
Undead creatures varied in strength. A tiny rabbit soul with barely any spirit power couldn't possibly possess the body of a powerful undead beast. For Huo Yuhao, there were two main ways to find an undead vessel—one was random summoning via necromantic spells like the Gate of the Dead, and the other was going straight into the Necromantic Demi-Plane.
"Then, Elder Yi, I suppose it's time I take a look at your Necromantic Demi-Plane."
"Hahaha! That's probably the most valuable thing this remnant soul of mine has to offer."
Indeed, a demi-plane—essentially a small, self-contained world—was already the realm of the divine.
Previously, Electrolux had already taught Huo Yuhao how to open the gateway to the Necromantic Demi-Plane. Unlike the original story, with Electrolux's help and the fully restored Eternal Necropolis acting as an anchor point, Huo Yuhao could now instantly teleport any target within its radius directly into the demi-plane—as long as their spiritual power was weaker than his or, if stronger, they offered no resistance.
Teleporting out of the demi-plane worked the same way, since the Eternal Necropolis simultaneously projected itself into both the demi-plane and the real world. It essentially functioned as a permanent link between the two.
The range of that projection was also dependent on Huo Yuhao's soul power and spiritual power. At the moment, it covered an area with a radius of about fifteen meters around the tower.
Of course, even when the tower wasn't active, Huo Yuhao could still open a gateway to the demi-plane using necromantic magic.
With a single thought, Huo Yuhao vanished and reappeared inside the Necromantic Demi-Plane.
The moment he laid eyes on the scene before him, his breath caught—not due to a lack of oxygen, but because of the sheer impact of what he saw.
A suppressed sky, gloomy tones, and countless undead creatures stretching across the land like an ocean.
Even Bing Di, Xue Di, and Tianmeng Iceworm within Huo Yuhao's spiritual world were startled. Skeletons, zombies, liches, bone dragons, death knights—an endless swarm of undead lifeforms. Even with their own transcendent power, Bing Di and Xue Di didn't feel particularly keen on facing a horde like this alone.
But with the necromantic power flowing through him and his eyes a deep, sacred gray, Huo Yuhao quickly adapted. After glancing at the Eternal Necropolis behind him, he began heading toward the clusters of undead.
"Alright, let's find our adorable little bunny a good host."
After searching for a long while, Huo Yuhao encountered two unfortunate obstacles.
First, it was hard to find a weak enough host for the little bunny soul. Surrounded by skeletons and zombies, anything weaker than them was exceedingly rare.
Second, likely due to the aura of Electrolux on his body, all the undead treated Huo Yuhao as if he were the King of Hell himself. Not only did they avoid him, they fled at the mere sight of him. Even a massive bone dragon—which Huo Yuhao himself wasn't sure he could defeat—lowered its head and flew off in fear the moment it spotted him.
"Haha, look at these little guys. Who knew just locking them in here back then would scare them this much? It's not easy creating undead, you know."
Huo Yuhao stared speechlessly at the sea of undead.
Just how many necromancer lairs did Elder Yi raid in his previous world?
Eventually, he did manage to find a weak enough creature. It looked like a skeletal dog, eyes glowing faintly white. Upon seeing Huo Yuhao approach, it was so frightened it collapsed on the ground, its bony frame trembling.
"Elder Yi, what's this one?"
"Ah, just a common undead hound—probably the weakest kind you'll find. Give it a try, Yuhao."
"Alright then. You. Come here."
Even though the undead feared Huo Yuhao, his orders were absolute. The skeletal dog rose shakily to its feet and followed him, trembling all the way.
When they arrived beneath the Eternal Necropolis, the undead hound calmed down, soothed by the rich necromantic aura it adored. It obediently stayed put.
Huo Yuhao then summoned the rabbit's soul from the tower. Thanks to the nourishing aura of the tower, its faint spiritual consciousness had recognized Huo Yuhao as its master. It floated cheerfully around him.
Looking at the cute little thing, Huo Yuhao smiled.
Stuffing a rabbit into a dog's body did feel a little weird... but they both had four legs. Good enough.
He cast the Summon Descent spell. The undead hound offered no resistance—creatures like it, which had basic instincts but no soul, considered it a blessing to house a true spirit.
Soon, the spell was complete. The rabbit soul successfully entered the hound's body. At first, it moved clumsily, barely able to stand, but quickly adapted to its new form. It curled up at Huo Yuhao's feet, motionless.
Squatting down, Huo Yuhao gently tapped the rabbit-hound's skull.
"Well, you're my first successful soul descent... I'll name you Bunny-Dog."
Bunny-Dog blinked in confusion, unsure if it understood.
Summoning such a weak soul cost almost no spiritual energy, so Huo Yuhao barely felt anything.
Now he really wanted to keep Bunny-Dog. But raising a literal walking skeleton in the real world? Probably not a good idea.
Electrolux saw his dilemma and chuckled.
"Yuhao, you can learn another necromantic spell: Simulation. Cast it on the skeleton dog, and it can appear like a living creature for a whole day. This spell is often used by intelligent undead in my world to infiltrate human society—it not only gives them the appearance but also the aura of a living being."
The spell was simple. Huo Yuhao cast it on Bunny-Dog, and the skeletal hound transformed into a fluffy, teddy bear-like creature with rabbit ears. A bit of a patchwork monster, but surprisingly adorable.
After experimenting further with the tower's ability to amplify necromantic spells, Huo Yuhao returned home with Bunny-Dog. Soon, the little creature became the household favorite. Especially Sister Meng Hongchen—she looked like she wanted to cuddle Bunny-Dog to sleep every night.
Huo Yuhao toyed with the idea of one day reverting Bunny-Dog to its original skeletal form to scare her.
Heh. So evil.
Meanwhile, in Shrek City, inside the Shrek Academy.
At that moment, Wang Dong was sitting alone in an empty dormitory room, looking utterly despondent. Ever since the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament, her state had been far from well.
The deaths of Dai Huabin and Zhu Lu, Shrek Academy's defeat, the cold stares from others—all of it weighed heavily on her. She clenched her fists in frustration. So many times she had lashed out in anger alone, but what could she even do?
She stared at the empty room, and before she knew it, a single tear slid down her cheek.
"What am I even doing… How many times has this happened now?"
The emotional pain twisted in her chest. She wiped away the tear with effort. Though born a girl, she had always acted strong. But right now, she couldn't help feeling miserable.
And the worst part was the emptiness of the room. It wasn't right. It shouldn't be this way.
The Academy didn't assign her a roommate because of her hidden identity. That was reasonable, wasn't it?
But ever since last year, she had begun to feel that something was missing. After the tournament, that feeling intensified.
Her stubborn nature urged her to figure it out. And the tournament seemed to be the key.
After much thought, she finally reached a bizarre conclusion. The source of her unrest was tied to someone she shouldn't care about at all—someone she hated. The boy who had a hand in killing her comrades.
Huo Yuhao.
Yes, she hated him. But whenever she thought of his face, she felt a familiar, aching sorrow. Something wasn't right.
"Something's wrong. Something's really, really wrong. Huo Yuhao..."
Her mental state had been unstable lately. She needed to fix it. That's why she applied to be an exchange student at the Sun Moon Imperial Soul Engineering Academy. Huo Yuhao was there. She had to get to the bottom of this.
There were other reasons, too. At the tournament, the advanced soul tools of the Sun Moon Empire had left her deeply impressed. Despite her inexplicable aversion to soul tools, she still wanted to learn.
"Huo Yuhao… damn it, I'm really losing my mind."
She bit her lip hard, trying to dispel the emotions clouding her mind. With a flick of her pastel-blue hair, she stormed out of her dorm.
Wang Dong sprinted through the corridor, desperate to outrun her feelings. But it didn't help.
As she passed the hallway and saw the familiar scenery, she kept thinking—she wasn't meant to live alone in pride and solitude. There was someone missing from this picture.
She clenched her lips tighter, fled the dorm building, and ran to the field. She started running laps.
She had run countless laps under Teacher Zhou Yi's orders, so it came naturally. But the more she ran, the more she felt she shouldn't be running alone. And during those late arrivals in the mornings, she shouldn't have been the only one being punished.
The thought overwhelmed her, and she wanted to cry. Her lips bled from how hard she bit them. Eventually, she collapsed to her knees, screamed through tears,
"I just want to live alone! What's wrong with that?!"
She wept alone on the empty field. No one came to comfort her. She was completely by herself.
"I'm the young master of the Clear Sky Clan. I was born noble. Someone like me is meant to live alone in pride. Who else is even worthy to be beside me?"
This was Wang Dong's true heart. She barely had any real friends at the Academy. The closest thing she had were teammates like Bei Bei and Xu Sanshi—comrades, not friends.
After a while, she stood up and wiped the dust from her pale forehead and knees with her hands. Her usual concern for cleanliness forgotten. She was still trying to figure out the cause of her emotional collapse.
And the answer was clear—a person.
Wang Dong felt lonely. Of course she did. But her pride shouldn't have allowed loneliness to affect her like this.
"If it's not loneliness… then what is it?"
She sat down on a bench, frowning, deep in thought. Again, her mind drifted to Huo Yuhao.
Then a ridiculous idea surfaced. What if Huo Yuhao hadn't been from the Sun Moon Empire? What if he had joined Shrek Academy? What if he had been assigned as her roommate on day one?
She sneered at the idea.
"You? Share a room with me? I'd kick you out instantly."
Yet, she kept imagining it. The two of them attending class together. Training together. Getting punished together. Competing in the tournament together.
It was all fantasy. None of it was real.
Tears streamed down her face again without her realizing it. She buried her face in her hands and let herself cry.
After some time, she wiped her face with a handkerchief and finally calmed down. Her thoughts were in chaos, but she understood the source of her misery.
Huo Yuhao wasn't by her side.
Though she refused to admit it, she couldn't deny it.
"I can't believe it… I'm actually upset over a man. And not just any man—someone I hate… someone who killed my comrades. This is impossible."
At that moment, Wang Dong solidified her decision to go to the Sun Moon Imperial Soul Engineering Academy as an exchange student.
She felt like she wasn't herself anymore—like her thoughts weren't even her own. She was on the brink of a breakdown.
She needed someone she could trust. Someone she could talk to.
With a complicated expression, she stood up and set out to find an old man.
After a long search, she finally found him—a frail, humble elder who spent most of his time lounging in a chair.
Wang Dong stood there, conflicted. She used to look down on this man. But after the tournament, Elder Mu personally met with the team, offering warm, gentle comfort for their loss. He even praised their efforts and gave them rewards.
Now, Wang Dong felt trust and warmth toward the old man.
She stepped forward and bowed.
"Elder Mu, I'm sorry to disturb your rest, but I have something I want to talk to you about."
Mu En slowly opened his eyes. He had sensed her presence long before she arrived.
"Oh, Wang Dong. Haha… Perhaps 'Wang Dong'er' is more fitting. Dong'er, what is it you want to speak to me about?"
Wang Dong'er hesitated. After sorting her thoughts, she began to share with Elder Mu the strange pain and emptiness she had been feeling… all seemingly because someone she hardly knew—a young man from the Sun Moon Empire named Huo Yuhao—wasn't by her side.
