Chapter 57: Bart's Request

"Primordial Flame…" Hearing these two words, Silas fell into deep thought.

He had never heard this term before.

Bart didn't intend to let Silas think for too long and continued to drop bombshells: "That group has already infiltrated the city and secretly begun preparing the magic circle."

"Wait! Infiltrated the city? Could it be…" Silas suddenly thought of something.

Bart nodded. "Your reaction isn't slow. That ghost ship itself wasn't anything special. That ship was merely to attract your attention, so their people could silently infiltrate the city."

With that, Bart sneered, "Your Archbishop is truly foolish. To deal with this, he actually transferred all the city's mystical teams over, leaving other areas' defenses very weak. The effect of this ghost ship was very successful. Not only did it divert the attention of the Divine Punishers, combat nuns, and even Demon Hunters, but it also cleverly shifted their focus onto the Twin Alliance. And you all didn't suspect a thing."

Silas, hearing this, immediately felt somewhat disgraced and said defensively, "It's you all who are too cunning."

Muttering, Silas immediately changed the subject, saying angrily, "Just for this, they killed everyone on a ship!?"

"Isn't that enough? In the eyes of those fanatics, human lives are no different from animal lives," Bart sighed.

Silas clenched his fists and asked again, "There's one thing I don't understand. Since they want to summon something, why don't they summon it in the wilderness, instead of going to such great lengths and taking such huge risks to summon it in a second-tier city?"

Bart pondered for a moment, seemingly organizing his words.

After ten seconds, Bart said, glossing over the important points, "Summoning the Primordial Flame requires immense human presence. The more people there are in a place, the higher the success rate of the summoning. The defensive capabilities of the Church in first-tier cities are too strong, so they chose a second-tier city to make their move. Coincidentally, Bayne City's mystical defenses are currently very scarce, so it became their primary target."

"Currently Bayne City? Were Bayne City's mystical defenses very strong before?" Silas caught a key point in his words.

A look of approval appeared on Bart's face. "It's clear you have a very keen sense for language. Bayne City was once very famous for its mystical defenses. As an old, established second-tier city that has been developing for over a hundred years, the pearl of the northwest, its security was once very reliable. But due to one incident, the entire mystical defense system of Bayne City suffered a severe blow."

"What incident?" Silas asked curiously.

Bart smiled. "Intelligence isn't free."

"Profiteer!" Silas said through gritted teeth.

Bart, smiling, explained, "If you help me resolve this matter, we can become truly close partners. At that time, I can provide you with a lot of important intelligence. Believe me, this intelligence will be very, very effective in your promotion process within the Church of Holy Blood."

Silas was somewhat tempted upon hearing this but didn't show it on his face. He said calmly, "First, tell me what I need to contribute now!"

"According to the intelligence I have, there are about twelve members of the Green Flame Brotherhood who have entered the city. Two of them are expert-level Spirit Mediums, and the rest are professional-level combat personnel, including Swordsmen, Assassins, Hypnotists, Magicians, Exhorters, and Zealots – six types in total. I'm not very clear about their specific locations. What's noteworthy are the Hypnotist and Magician among them. These two professions are notoriously highly dangerous. They will silently invade your consciousness, your line of sight, causing people to die an untimely death in a daze."

Silas didn't show his previous unpromising demeanor this time but nodded very calmly, then suddenly thought, "Right, they won't discover me again this time and then come looking for me, will they?"

Bart waved his hand. "Rest assured about that. I've already cleared out their remnants in the city these past few days. They currently don't know where we are either."

Silas felt relieved upon hearing this. With such a group of powerful individuals arriving, he, a Priest apprentice with no combat ability, felt very vulnerable.

"So, what do you need me to do next?" Silas asked.

Bart immediately perked up. "As an important partner, I definitely won't let you suffer losses or send you to your death. You just need to help me monitor the list of accidental deaths in the recent period through the police station. At the same time, use your methods to convey this message to the Church of Holy Blood, making them believe this information without exposing the relationship between you and me."

Silas fell into deep thought upon hearing this.

He currently didn't want to be too conspicuous within the Church of Holy Blood. He wanted to spend these two months of probation as peacefully as possible, to first build up a good physique and a stable, profound spirit before becoming an official clergyman.

"You and I are people in similar situations, so I understand your limits. You will handle this matter well." Both were heretical elements hidden within the Church of Holy Blood, so at least in this aspect, they were on a common front and didn't need any suspicion.

Silas was silent for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, I'll handle this matter. Is there anything else?"

"Nothing else, just this," Bart said readily.

Afterward, the two chatted about some trivial matters and then bid farewell.

"Your dog truly opened my eyes," Bart said with admiration, looking at the Husky as they parted.

Silas smiled and asked, "In what way?"

"In every way. I'll have to re-evaluate the creature known as a dog from now on. They can actually have such rich expressions," Bart sighed.

The Husky, beside them, upon hearing this, lowered its ears slightly, squinted its eyes at the front, and let its head droop a bit, putting on an expression of "it's no big deal."

"..."

Returning home, it was exactly six o'clock. Stepping into the house to the sound of the bell, Silas saw Ada just taking off her white monastic robe and putting on an apron, preparing to cook.

"Sister Ada, long time no see," Silas said with a smile.

Ada turned her head, carefully sized up Silas, and said with surprise, "Did you all undergo a baptism? Why do you feel different now than before?"

Silas chuckled. "Of course. This was professional training; the effect is very good."

Ada didn't ask much more. Walking into the kitchen, she said, "A circus came to the city a few days ago. The magician in it was very interesting. He even performed a charity show at our convent today. His tricks were amazing; it made people's eyes spin a bit."

Silas said casually, "Those are all fake."

Ada smiled. "I know, but it was really interesting. He even gave me a souvenir."

Saying this, Ada took out a metal pendant and dangled it, making a clear, tinkling sound.

Instantly, Silas's expression turned very grim.
