Chapter 97: Aftermath

When Silas woke up, the first thing he felt was a heaviness in his chest.

Opening his eyes, the first thing he noticed was the bright sunlight shining through the glass, warmly lighting his face.

"Where am I?" His eyes scanned around, seeing a delicately and warmly decorated bedroom.

He slightly raised his head and just saw Ada sleeping soundly on his chest.

"Ada?" Seeing Ada, Silas was even more bewildered.

Ada, sensing Silas's awakening, opened her eyes. Their eyes met, and Ada suddenly opened her arms, embracing Silas and crying tears of joy, "Goddess above, you're finally awake! I was so worried!"

Silas was stunned but reached out to hug her, smiling reassuringly, "It's okay, I'm fine. Don't worry."

"You have to be more careful from now on. If anything happens to you, I'll be heartbroken," Ada said seriously, wiping her tears.

Silas felt a pang of tenderness and responded solemnly, "Don't worry, Ada. I won't make you worry anymore."

"Mm-hmm!" Ada nodded, satisfied.

Silas sat up and asked, "Where is this?"

Ada replied, "This is Mr. Bart's private apartment."

"Bart's private apartment!?" Silas was stunned. Suddenly, memories of last night flooded in like a breaking dam.

"I remember Randall descending from the sky with Helles and Bernice. Then the explosion happened. Randall stood in front, forming a barrier to protect everyone. Dragon-transformed Helles held me to shield me from a lot of the impact. After that… the memories are a bit fuzzy," Silas said, holding his head, frowning.

"Are you okay?" Ada asked with concern.

Silas shook his head and suddenly asked, "What about the others?"

Ada briefly recounted what she saw last night and what happened afterward.

"Was it Jik who carried us from there to here?"

Ada nodded, a bit shy, "He even carried me. I felt a bit embarrassed at the time. They're really kind people."

Silas hurriedly asked, "Then… how are those people?"

He was afraid Ada might get involved if she saw their true identities.

"They were all unconscious then, probably assigned to other rooms. I've been here with you since I arrived and don't know about the others."

Hearing this, Silas secretly relaxed and asked, "How did you get to the farm side?"

"I heard the farm was on fire and heard explosions. When you left, you said you were going to the farm. It's been over two hours and you haven't come back. I was worried about you!"

As she spoke, Ada's eyes reddened again.

Silas quickly apologized, "Sorry, it's my fault! It won't happen again!"

He quickly changed the subject, "What about that man in black?"

Ada looked puzzled, "Man in black? I didn't see anyone. When I came, you were lying here motionless. I didn't see anyone else."

Hearing this, Silas frowned, "Didn't see anyone else? That man in black tried to take me away. Why did he suddenly let me go? Does he have some conspiracy? Or was there a powerful person secretly helping?"

"From his words and actions, it seems there was no further conspiracy. He really wanted to take me away. Since you could still see me after you arrived, it means he might have been attacked or intimidated by someone and fled without caring about the others."

"Who can intimidate or drive away a mysterious powerful being with 88 points of Spirit Vision and a sixth-tier magic book?" Silas felt uneasy thinking about this.

Because he realized the real situation in this city was far more complicated than he imagined.

Dong dong dong…

While deep in thought, the doorbell rang.

Ada wiped her eyes, turned, and opened the door. She saw Adeline and Randall standing at the door. Seeing Ada, they smiled warmly and said, "Hello, how is Mr. Sotos's recovery?"

Ada smiled, "He's awake and seems fine."

Silas got out of bed and asked, "How are you two?"

Adeline smiled, "I'm fine. I was just stunned by the explosion. It's nothing serious."

Randall smiled slightly, "Me too. Just fainted."

Silas nodded with relief and then introduced them to Ada, who looked a bit awkward, "These two are detectives from another city. We cooperated yesterday to investigate the farm fire."

Ada nodded knowingly, glanced at the time, and said, "I still have to go to the church today and check on the farm. Could Mr. Bart give me a ride?"

Jik, standing guard at the door, immediately said, "Gladly, beautiful and kind lady."

Ada turned to Silas with a big sister's admonishing look, "You have your work. I know this is police confidential. I won't pry. But you must promise me to take good care of yourself."

Silas held her hand and nodded firmly, "I swear, Ada!"

Ada looked relieved and quickly left with Jik.

After Ada left, the three sat down, their faces full of solemnity.

"Who was that man?" Adeline asked, frowning.

Randall shook his head, "I don't know. This matter is very strange."

Silas was still calm and asked, "Randall, tell us what you encountered."

"I rushed to the farm, but was discovered by church personnel while in the sky. They were tough to deal with. After being struck by strange lightning, I couldn't escape and had to fight. Luckily, they didn't have anyone too powerful. After repelling them three times and preparing to leave, a violent explosion suddenly happened in the air. I took the chance to escape the battlefield. On the way, I met Helles and Bernice, who had just finished killing and were being chased by police. I brought them along and flew here, then encountered the explosion."

Silas held his chin and pondered.

The mastermind behind this was certain, but who exactly was he? What was his true purpose? After operating for so long and spending so much manpower and resources, was it all just to complete one Secret Treasure?

"By the way, Ms. Adeline, you said the book he had was called Hymn of the Great Devouring Wyrm, right?" Silas suddenly asked.

Adeline nodded and asked, "What are you thinking?"

"I hope he has nothing to do with that one," Silas said with a grim expression.

"That one? Who?" Randall asked eagerly, eyes shining.

Adeline was also curious, staring at Silas.

Silas coughed and thought to himself, "My performance last night was too weak. It's time to show my erudition and presence as the Apostle of the God and the Pope of the Church."

Then, with a mysterious tone, Silas said, "You cannot know the name of that one. I can only tell you a codename from a certain period."

"Please tell us, Lord Apostle," Randall said respectfully, bowing slightly.

Silas opened his mouth and said five words:

"Black Forest Black Goat!"
