c71: Leng Yue – "Ah! Damn Chen Xiaoxiao!"
The time reached 10:00 AM.
After more than three hours aboard the League-authorized special aircraft, Chen Xiaoxiao and her group finally landed in Beijing.
"Mr. Leng, we're here to take custody of the confiscated Pokémon Healing Machine. Here's the signed transfer file."
At the landing zone, a professional-looking trainer in his early thirties approached. He wore a black-and-silver League logistics uniform, complete with the Huaxia Regional Badge, and presented a set of official documents to Leng Hao.
Leng Hao scanned the documents thoroughly.
"Alright. Xiao Wang, take him to the cargo bay."
With a nod, Leng Hao handed the papers back, confirming their authenticity.
Xiao Wang led the logistics agent to retrieve the Pokémon Healing Machine the exact standard model used in League Gyms across the globe, with its unique serial number still intact.
Once the equipment was officially handed over, Leng Hao, Chen Xiaoxiao, and Xiao Wang entered a black League-licensed vehicle, which quickly exited the airport using a dedicated high-speed clearance lane.
---
"Uncle Leng Hao, where are we heading now?"
Chen Xiaoxiao had just finished catching up on sleep mid-flight and now looked more alert though still rubbing her eyes.
"We're going to Huaxia Pokémon Headquarters. The full incident report needs to be filed in person."
Leng Hao's tone was calm, but firm.
"Ugh, that sounds like a drag."
Still, Chen Xiaoxiao didn't argue further. She knew how important this situation was especially when dealing with international crime syndicates operating under the guise of trainers.
---
Upon arriving at the Huaxia Pokémon Headquarters, a state-of-the-art complex modeled after the Pokémon Association's central compound in Kanto, the group disembarked.
Chen Xiaoxiao was taken directly to a secure reporting room.
Leng Xin's personal secretary a composed woman in her late twenties was already present to record the formal inquiry, while Leng Xin himself chose to sit in on the entire process.
This wasn't standard protocol.
But in this case, there were two key reasons:
First, because Chen Xiaoxiao had been the one to initially uncover and intercept the operation involving the three Japanese Elite-class trainers including seizing their illegal Pokémon Healing Machine.
And second, because Leng Xin understood that a 16-year-old girl might not be used to formal investigation procedures and wanted to make her feel at ease.
Throughout the questioning, Chen Xiaoxiao answered fluently. She didn't hide anything, including how she tracked the foreign trainers, neutralized them, and secured their Pokémon before Leng Hao's team arrived.
Once the detailed report was complete, the secretary left the room, leaving only Chen Xiaoxiao and Leng Xin.
---
"Xiaoxiao, you did excellent work. Thanks to you, we dismantled a hidden foreign cell inside China, and more importantly, we confiscated their last batch of powerful Pokémon. So what reward would you like?"
Leng Xin smiled as he leaned back slightly in his chair, clearly impressed.
This was the official debrief's conclusion, and now it was time for rewards a customary League policy when trainers contributed to strategic operations.
"Hehe! So I really do get to ask for something!" Chen Xiaoxiao grinned.
Honestly, she had just about everything: elite Pokémon, training privileges, system access…
The only thing she didn't have
Was answers.
"Uncle Leng... I want to know where my dad died."
Her voice grew serious, and her golden eyes fixed directly on his.
Leng Xin visibly paused.
"Xiaoxiao... you're still young. I can't tell you that at least not yet. But don't worry. In a few years, you'll be ready. Then, you'll know everything."
His tone turned soft, almost fatherly.
He hadn't expected that question, and it clearly caught him off-guard.
---
Chen Xiaoxiao's heart sank.
She thought she'd get an answer this time.
But seeing Leng Xin's expression, she realized there was more going on behind the scenes.
A different space, huh…?
That was what she had long suspected. Maybe the same place the foreign syndicates were trying to reach. Maybe connected to the temporal fractures the League was quietly monitoring.
She didn't know where, or how to get in but she had her guesses.
"Is there some secret about it I'm not supposed to know yet? Whatever. If Uncle Leng says 'in a few years'… I'll wait."
She folded her arms silently, lost in thought.
---
Sensing her mood shift, Leng Xin gently changed the subject.
"Well then—how about Pokémon? Is there any species you've been dreaming of lately?"
He gave a knowing smile, trying to coax her out of her seriousness.
After hearing Leng Xin's words, Chen Xiaoxiao gave him a half-smiling look that was equal parts mischievous and knowing.
"Alright, got it."
After a brief silence, she understood what wasn't being said aloud.
In her current lineup, Chen Xiaoxiao already had two Legendary Pokémon—Solgaleo and Latias along with the Shiny Metagross, a Pseudo-Legendary of the Psychic/Steel type.
Even setting that aside, the Huaxia Pokémon Authority didn't have any Beldum species in cryostasis or in reserve as Eggs. Her current roster was already stacked with high-value and rare Pokémon such as Gardevoir, Meowstic, and the solar-core-based "Sun Pokémon", possibly referring to Volcarona or a custom system-enhanced variant.
Realizing this, Leng Xin couldn't help but feel he had asked a redundant question.
"Let's do this instead," Leng Xin offered. "I'll log the full credit for your operation in the League system. Meanwhile, I'll open your access to the Pokémon Headquarters Research Library you're already powerful, but knowing more never hurts. Once you figure out what you need most, just contact me."
"Okay! Thanks, Uncle Leng!"
Chen Xiaoxiao beamed. This wasn't something she had expected access to the HQ library was a rare privilege even among elite trainers.
If she'd tried to request it outright, she might've missed the opportunity.
---
"Well," Leng Xin continued, standing up, "you've had a long few days. Just relax and enjoy the capital. Leng Yue always talks about how she misses you no need to waste money on hotels. Stay at our place instead."
"Got it! Uncle Leng, I won't be shy then!"
With the formal business concluded, any follow-up regarding the foreign operatives from Japan would now fall under higher-level League jurisdiction.
Chen Xiaoxiao's mission was over.
---
When she stepped out of Huaxia Pokémon Headquarters, the sun was nearing its zenith.
11:57 AM.
Chen Xiaoxiao opened her Pokédex, tapped into Penguin Messenger, and selected Leng Yue from her contact list.
Chen Xiaoxiao: "Xiao Yueyue~! Where are you?"
Leng Yue: "Heh! Home, of course. Where else would I be? Unlike some people, I'm not off frolicking in Kenting on vacation."
Leng Yue's text oozed mock bitterness, channeling the melodrama of a shut-in heroine in a slice-of-life anime.
Chen Xiaoxiao: "Oof! Excuse me, Miss Homebody~ 😌"
Leng Yue: "Friendship terminated!! 💢"
Seeing the reply, Chen Xiaoxiao burst into laughter. She thought to herself:
"'Friendship terminated'? Just wait till we meet… Don't come begging for hugs and kisses then!"
Of course, that was just her idiot brain running wild.
"Anyway... perfect timing. I can go raid her fridge for lunch!"
Grinning, she stepped off the curb, hailed a taxi, and gave the address of the League residential villas where Leng Yue lived.
---
(Note: No taxis are allowed past the main gates of the residential district reserved for Huaxia's top Pokémon League personnel. Yes, the dark side of privilege.)
After arriving at the gate, Chen Xiaoxiao showed her official Prosecutor's Credential, and was allowed through without delay.
She approached Leng Yue's house, but instead of ringing the bell, she stood outside silently, her azure eyes glowing faintly.
"Huh? Leng Yue's on the balcony?"
She activated her Psychic Sense, focusing her energy to detect bio-signatures. Sure enough, Leng Yue was upstairs on the balcony—frustrated, pacing around, muttering to herself while staring at her Pokédex.
Suddenly
Leng Yue's expression darkened. She shouted, her voice echoing across the yard:
"Ah! Damn Chen Xiaoxiao!!"
Down below, Chen Xiaoxiao giggled uncontrollably.
"Busted~"
With a shimmer of light, she executed Teleport, landing directly behind Leng Yue.
Gently, she reached forward and wrapped her arms around Leng Yue's slim waist.
"Who deserves to die~?" she whispered playfully into Leng Yue's ear.
"AH!"
Leng Yue screamed, startled.
She whipped around in a blur of motion, shock turning to disbelief—then joy.
And without hesitation
She leapt into Chen Xiaoxiao's arms.
No imaginary fantasy this time.
A real, full-force hug and cling combo.
