Chapter 85;LOVE AND DUTY

Chapter 85

He gave me a tender peck on the forehead, his lips grazing my skin with a gentle caress. "Perhaps I've fallen irretrievably in love with you?" he whispered, his words lingering in my mind like a haunting melody. With that, he turned and departed, leaving me standing alone in the empty classroom, bathed in the soft silence.

I stood there for a moment, my fingertips tracing the spot where his lips had touched, the memory of his tender touch spreading through me like a warm glow. As I slowly emerged from the haze of my thoughts, I became aware of the subtle scent of his cologne still wafting through the air, a poignant reminder of our encounter.

Taking a deep breath, I gathered my composure and stepped outside. My legs felt weak and unsteady, as if the weight of his words had somehow undermined my footing. The vibrant colors and sounds of the outside world were a jarring contrast to the intimate moment we had shared, and I blinked, adjusting to the sudden change.

That's when I saw Racy, her eyes scanning the surroundings with a mixture of worry and relief before locking onto me. Her expression transformed from anxiety to mock indignation as she rushed towards me. "Sarah!" she exclaimed, her voice rising in playful exasperation. "What kind of heartless prank is that? I thought you'd been abducted! I was on the verge of calling out the cops!" Her words snapped me back to reality.

I glanced back at Racy, forcing a reassuring smile. "It's okay, Racy, I'm fine. I really need to get to class, though." I said, already starting to walk away.

Racy fell into step behind me, her footsteps light on the ground. "Are you okay sarah?," she asked, I chuckled and shook my head, not bothering to respond.

The sleek car awaited Hyun Min's arrival, its engine purring softly as the driver, already seated behind the wheel, watched him approach. Two men stood outside the vehicle, their expressions neutral, their eyes fixed on Hyun Min. One of them stepped forward, opening the door with a slight bow as Hyun Min slid into the backseat.

His expression was inscrutable, his eyes gazing out the window as the door closed behind him. The two men got in, one sitting beside him and the other in the front passenger seat. The driver, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, put the car in gear, and they began to move.

The drive was a very silent one, the only sound the soft hum of the engine and the gentle whoosh of the tires on the road. Hyun Min's mind, however, was a different story. His thoughts drifted to Sarah, and he couldn't help but smile to himself. He felt drawn to her in a way he couldn't explain, a sense of calm washing over him whenever she was near.

It was surreal, really. Just a short while ago, they had been at odds, their interactions tense and strained. But now...Hyun Min chuckled to himself, the sound low and amused. The men in the car turned to look at him, curiosity etched on their faces.

"What is it, sir?" one of them asked, but Hyun Min just shook his head, his eyes drifting to the window.

He couldn't believe how much things had changed. It felt like just yesterday they were clashing, their words sharp and biting. But now, he couldn't imagine being around anyone else. The thought brought a sense of wonder to his eyes, and he rested his hand on the window frame, lost in thought.

The silence in the car deepened, but Hyun Min's mind was abuzz with thoughts of Sarah. He couldn't wait to see her again, to talk to her, to be near her. The realization brought a sense of excitement, and he felt a small smile playing on his lips.

As the sleek car pulled up to the hospital's entrance, one of the men swiftly exited the vehicle and rushed to open the door for Hyun Min. With a quiet nod, Hyun Min stepped out onto the pavement, his expression a mask of calm composure. He strode into the hospital, his footsteps echoing through the sterile corridors as he made his way to the nurses' station.

The female patients, gathered in small clusters, couldn't help but notice the striking young man walking down the hall. Their hushed conversations ceased, and their eyes widened in unison as they caught sight of him. "Wow," one of them breathed, her voice barely audible. Hyun Min didn't flinch, his gaze fixed intently on his destination.

Upon reaching the nurses' station, he inquired about Na yeon's room number. After a brief consultation with the hospital's system, the nurse provided him with the information he sought. With purposeful strides, Hyun Min walked down the corridor, his footsteps steady and deliberate, until he reached the room.

He knocked on the door, and it swung open to reveal Nayeon's mother, her expression a mixture of concern and annoyance.

As Hyun Min stepped into the hospital room, he sighted na yeon's mother at the window, she turned and smiled, and he greeted her with a gentle bow of his head.

"Oh,you're here..."

Nayeon's mother offered a soft smile, her voice calm and reassuring, "I'll leave her to you for now. I need to attend to some matters, and I'll return by evening." Hyun Min's eyes widened further as he processed the words, his mind whispering, "Till evening? That's a considerable amount of time."

"Well, since you'll be getting married soon, I won't worry about leaving her in your care." Na yeon's mother said as her expression serene, and patted Hyun Min's arm before turning to leave.

The silence in the room was palpable as Hyun Min gazed at Na yeon, his eyes filled with a detached sense of concern. Her vacant expression didn't stir any particular emotion in him, except perhaps a faint sense of obligation. He heard she had temporary memory loss, and the uncertainty that came with it. Her memories could return at any moment, or they might linger in the shadows, waiting to resurface.

As he looked at her, Hyun Min's expression remained neutral, his thoughts consumed by the duty that lay before him. "I hope you get back your memory soon," he said, his voice polite but lacking warmth. Na yeon's gaze remained fixed on him, her eyes searching, as if trying to place him in the vast expanse of her forgotten memories.
