Emily

(Emily POV)

For as long as I can remember, I have lived in the Silver City with a singular purpose: to bring joy to the souls that dwell here.

I was taught by different angels about the things former humans enjoyed, while also learning that every soul has different wants and needs. As I became more skilled in caring for them, my responsibilities grew beyond that of a simple carer. As a seraphim, it became my duty to tend to the Throne of God.

All I had to do was sing hymns and sacred songs to the Throne, as tradition dictated. I never truly understood why we did this, especially since God himself was currently... away.

Where had He gone? Only Sera—the head seraphim—knew.

Sera is the one currently in charge of the Silver City during His absence. For many years, she oversaw the city with grace, ensuring disagreements were quickly resolved and harmony prevailed.

While I continued to tend to the Throne, part of me longed to return to my former duties—caring for the souls of Heaven. Don't get me wrong, it was an honor to watch over the Creator's seat, but deep down I felt my true calling was to be among the souls He had created.

So, after finally gathering the courage, I went to speak with Sera.

She sat in her office wearing her usual robes and a pair of reading glasses, calmly working through the endless paperwork that came with overseeing Heaven.

"Hey, Sera!" I greeted cheerfully.

"Good afternoon, Emily," she said, looking up with a kind smile. "What brings you here today?"

"Well... I was wondering if it's possible for me to, um... switch jobs?"

"What do you mean?"

"I know looking after the Throne is important and all, but I really miss greeting the souls who arrive in Heaven and helping them find happiness here. Not that I dislike my current job! I was just wondering if I could... maybe return to my old one?"

She paused, then smiled gently.

"Well... if you feel you'll do a better job caring for the souls, then go ahead."

"Really?!"

"Of course. The safety and happiness of Heaven's souls are the very reasons we were created."

I beamed and hugged her tightly. She hugged me back with a small, fond smile.

"Now go on. I'll inform Saint Peter that you'll be working with him tomorrow."

"Thank you, Sera! You have no idea how much this means to me!"

I left her office glowing with excitement.

Just like that, I returned to the work I loved—welcoming new souls and helping them settle in. A few months passed, and everything went smoothly. I loved listening to their stories, helping them adjust, and sharing laughs.

And when I wasn't busy? I watched cat videos on the crystal orb Sera had gifted me.

Yes, I know I'm supposed to use it for more official tasks, but the reception was amazing! I could see anything happening in the human world. I mostly used it to study their likes and trends—though some were… odd. Like their obsession with returning to a "monke" state. It made me giggle—humans were wonderfully silly sometimes.

But then I discovered something unexpected: I could also use the orb to see the First Layer of Hell.

I had no idea this was possible, and if Sera found out I was using the orb like this, she'd probably take it away. Still, curiosity got the better of me.

I began watching the demons—how they fought, betrayed, and hurt one another over the pettiest things. It was disturbing… but deep down, I believed there was still hope for them. After all, each demon was once a kind soul, too.

Then, I stumbled upon a very large hotel in Hell—strange, with odd structures sticking out from its sides. I looked inside… and what I saw confused me.

Demons getting along.

Hellborn cleaning and serving each other. Sinners laughing and chatting peacefully in the lobby.

And then… I saw him.

He looked like a raven, with wings as dark as night, eyes that sparkled like starlight, and oh God, that voice—so deep and smooth it could melt holy marble.

I blinked. What was I thinking?! I was entranced by a demon. A very hot, muscular, sexy demon.

My face flushed in horror as I realized the impure thoughts running through my mind. I quickly turned off the orb and dashed to my bed, burying my face in my pillow.

What is wrong with me? I'm an angel! I'm not supposed to think like this! Maybe it was demonic charm magic! Yes… that must be it. I'll cure myself of it later.

As I panicked in silence, a knock came at my door.

"Hello? Emily, are you there?"

I leapt up and tried to compose myself. "Come in!"

Sera entered, studying me with a quizzical look.

"Emily, I was wondering if you could help me greet the delegates for today's meeting."

"Oh! Of course! Anything!"

She raised an eyebrow. "Are you alright? Your face seems a bit… red."

"Me? Pfft—totally fine!"

She narrowed her eyes with a knowing smile. "Emily… I know that look. Who is he?"

How does she always know?!

"Well… we've never met exactly. I just kinda... saw him."

"Oh. I didn't expect you to fall for someone just by seeing them. But if you want to pursue him in your free time, that's your choice. Right now, though, we have a job to do."

"Of course!"

We walked out together and flew toward the meeting hall. I wasn't sure how I'd tell Sera that the person I might have a crush on was… a demon.

But surely, it's not real, right? Just some passing magical charm. I'll fix this... eventually.
