Orion had on a dark brown trench coat that lightly confused Logan.
Orion stared Logan in the eye, "Don't tell me you practiced that." He laughed at the latter.
"Unlike you, I don't waste my time on matters as useless as that." Logan readily countered as he stood to his feet.
The training hall they were in had wooden walls and floors that shone with golden light from the small golden runes scattered around the room.
"Shall we begin Logan Kress?" A smile played on Orion's lips as he asked.
"Gladly." Logan leaned in before running in Orion's direction.
He placed his hands together and cast the first spell of the duel.
"Dark Shot." Two spheres of darkness shot off aiming for Orion.
The target let out a light chuckle before casting his spell.
"Foil Edge." He muttered before waving the edge of his palm against the spheres.
They split in two before dispersing into corrosive wisps.
Orion conserving his momentum spun around and threw a long object at Logan.
Logan quickly cast a dark shield that crumbled as the needle the length of an arm pierced it.
Logan managed to grab the needle, spun around, and threw it back to Orion.
The latter spread out his arms bringing the needle to a grinding halt mid-air.
"Full metal control," Orion mumbled as he lifted his coat revealing six large knives.
The knives flew out of their scabbards and towards Logan.
Logan quickly cast and fired six more dark shots.
Orion used the blades to block the corrosive spheres.
Logan not wasting the chance charged in to attack Orion.
He quickly fired another dark shot at Orion, and the latter scoffed before flicking a coin at the attack.
The shot hit and corroded the coin but at the cost of its stability. In an instant, it broke down into harmless wisps.
Logan reacted by sending numerous dark arrows at him.
The blades moved to intercept the arrows releasing a dense black gas that obstructed Orion's vision.
He quickly pulled the blades back in to defend himself at close range.
Out of the darkness emerged Logan who placed his hand on Orion, the former barely avoiding the enclosing blades.
A wave of exhaustion hit Orion like a freight train and he responded by jumping out of Logan's reach.
Orion smiled as he waved his hands in Logan's direction.
"Metal Link." He whispered in a near-eerie tone that Logan could hear.
The latter tried to run, but it was too late. Bindings of metal held him in place and kept him rooted to the ground long enough for Orion to cast his next spell.
The needle that was long forgotten flew with frightening speed and tore through Logan's shoulder, tearing the flesh in its path.
Logan held back his scream and glared at Orion, a wide smile on the latter's face.
The links let loose and Logan sprinted to Orion with his left hand dripping with blood from his shoulder.
He forced his numbing hand to move as he cast the spell with the metal needle still embedded in it.
He cast five consecutive dark shots that fused to make a dark cannon.
Orion's eyes surged with a faint green color as he called the blades.
The blades passed by the still-approaching Dark Cannon and intercepted it.
Four of the blades corroded away but before Orion could react, he saw Logan in front of him with an outstretched arm.
He gripped Orion's face, tripped him over, and slammed his head to the ground.
Orion was sprawled on the floor unconscious.
Logan gritted his teeth as more blood poured out from the wound, the only plug being the very needle that had pierced him.
Logan looked at the unconscious Orion beside him and thought of their battle.
If it had been a battle of pure skill, Orion would have won in a landslide.
Orion had a wider array of spells at his disposal, he had the advantage of quality.
That was the reason for Logan's eagerness to get new spells.
Most of the spells in his current arsenal were too weak to even properly affect the scales of battles at his level.
He stood up using his right hand and stared at Orion for a few more seconds.
He leaned into Orion and using his one good hand, slapped him awake.
"Ah, my head. Feels like someone let off a bomb in there." He groaned as he held his head.
"I'm going to the hospital, you should come with me," Logan spoke before leaving the training hall.
Orion and he entered the hospital and entered an empty room.
"You do know normal protocols involve you waiting to be attended to." A familiar mature voice spoke as a man wearing a lab coat entered.
He had black hair with silver streaks, and he was the Head Healer Obel.
"But things are never normal with you, eh Logan Kress?" He completed as he stepped in front of Logan.
He observed the swollen head of Orion and the impaled shoulder of Logan and let out a long sigh.
"HOW DID THIS EVEN HAPPEN-?!" The head healer held back his tongue as he reeled in his anger and shock.
"This is your first day of learning at the academy, how did you- Why did you- Just how?" Obel let out an exasperated sigh.
Logan and Orion glanced at each other before staring back at the mature man who was waiting for an answer.
"We had a duel. Guess it got outta hand." Orion answered as Logan ran his right hand through his hair.
"Out of hand, Ha, hilarious. Get it, one of your hands is impaled." Orion snickered before bursting into laughter as though he had just told the funniest joke in history.
Obel let out a few curses under his breath before reaching for the needle and pulling it out in one fluid motion.
The blood running down his shoulder increased in quantity but Obel didn't let it continue.
Placing both hands on the wound, he muttered a few words, and his hand took on a white glow.
The glow died down and Obel removed his hands to show Logan's healed shoulder.
"As for you," Obel paused as he stared at Orion's head.
"You just need some rest. The swelling will stop by itself." He completed as he waved a dismissive hand at them.
They left the hospital and were heading back to their dormitories.
"I guess I should tell you what I know of those grey wisps." Orion spoke as he studied Logan's expression.
"Later, I have somewhere to go." Logan ran off in the direction of the academy.
It was time to collect his spells.
