Nattie Rogers is a young telegraph operator who spends her days working alone in a dark little office. But her job isn’t as lonely as it seems through her telegraph machine, she connects with people across the miles by sending and receiving messages in dots and dashes.
One day, Nattie hears a fast and clever hand on the wire someone from another town known only as “C.” At first, they argue, but soon, their connection grows into something more: a friendship filled with teasing, comfort, and laughter all through the sound of a machine.
They’ve never seen each other. They don’t even know each other's real names. But Nattie begins to wonder can you fall in love with someone you’ve only “heard” through wires?
As their bond deepens, life around Nattie continues: nosy neighbors, awkward suitors, new friends, and the ups and downs of her small, often boring world. But through it all, her heart keeps listening for the one person who makes her feel truly seen, even though he’s far away.
Will Nattie ever meet the person behind the voice? Or is their love meant to live only in dots and dashes?
