"Enough!" Layla couldn't bear to listen anymore. "Your partner is hurt, and your first thought isn't concern, but suspicion that she's lying to you. How did I raise such an idiot!"
My bestie didn't keep them waiting long, immediately using the communication crystal to initiate a connection with me.
I quickly applied some powder to whiten my lips, then messed up my hair a bit to make myself look even more frail.
Damian heard the connection go through, and without even looking, started berating me.
"Celia, you're getting bolder and bolder, playing these little injury tricks..."
He trailed off midway as he looked at the crystal screen, swallowing the rest of his words.
Can't blame him, I looked incredibly weak on the crystal.
I let out a few loud coughs, then greeted them weakly.
“Damian, what are you talking about? Why are Layla and Chloe in the temple?”
“You… Are you really hurt? Where are you?" Damian was clearly taken by surprise, and his words faltered as he asked.
I smiled, "I'm getting treatment at the medical center. It's nothing serious, just a small injury from border patrol. I'll be fine in a few days."
Layla shot Damian a fierce glare, "Celia, you didn't even tell me about your serious injury so I could come see you."
I smiled and exchanged pleasantries with Layla, "What's going on with the pack? Why does it seem like the temple is in chaos everywhere?"
Well, obviously, they had just been through a fierce battle. How could the temple not be in disarray?
I originally wanted to steer the conversation in this direction, but for some reason, Damian seemed off and tried to cover it up.
"Get some rest. I'll come see you tomorrow."
His tone when speaking to me could even be described as gentle.
I could only scoff inwardly.
Sure enough, when no one knew he was bullying me, he could do so without any psychological burden.
But when everything was out in the open, he had to make concessions to save face.
In reality, he had always been a wolf who cared greatly about his image. Because he couldn't bring himself to be with Ella, who had impure blood, he chose me as a shield.
I felt like I'd seen right through this male wolf.
Having died once already, I no longer harbored even a shred of love for him.
Just as my best friend took the crystal, intending to chat with me a bit more, Ella couldn't hold back any longer.
"Celia, how did you get hurt? Is it serious?"
She rushed over to greet me incredibly quickly, making sure not to forget to expose the bite mark on her neck.
She thought I would yell, make a scene, lose my composure. This way she could make Damian detest me even more, causing our relationship to deteriorate further.
But in reality, I just smiled and said, "You’re back? That's wonderful. I'm injured and can't entertain you, so let your brother keep you company!"
Then I asked her, "What's with the mark on your neck? Were you bitten by some wild animal?"
