Chapter 54: End of the Titan World

"The mission isn't over yet? Oh right—those two Titans that first broke through the gate… where did they go?"

With Nawaki's reminder, Minato suddenly realized it too.

When it came down to it, the regular Titans were merely following instinct, mindlessly moving toward concentrations of humans.

The true threats to Wall Maria were the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan. Unless those two were dealt with, the wall could fall at any moment.

Sure enough, just as they were speaking, screams suddenly rang out in the distance.

"They're coming! They're back!"

"It's the Colossal Titan!"

"Wall Maria is going to fall again…"

What a bunch of useless people. All they do is scream. The humans of the Titan world really are hopeless.

Nawaki's lips twitched in disdain. Along with Minato and the others, he looked up—and there it was: the massive face of a Titan once again appeared at the top of Wall Maria.

Minato's brow furrowed almost instantly.

"Wait a second… with a body that huge, how did he even make it past the outer walls to get to Wall Maria?"

The Colossal Titan raised its foot and kicked with the force of a cannonball.

BOOM!

The Wood Style wall shattered on impact.

Although the Colossal Titan was only C-rank in terms of raw stats—chūnin-level, essentially—its raw strength was on par with A-rank or even Kage-level combatants.

After all, with a height of over sixty meters, it had sacrificed agility for overwhelming physical might.

Even the weakest child could crush an ant with a single step.

"A high-grade Titan, huh?... Minato, Nagato, you two handle the gate. I'll deal with the Colossal Titan."

Nawaki took the task upon himself.

Forget it—if he was going to power-level his teammates, he might as well go all-in. No need to keep pretending to hold back. This would be the last time he carried the newbies anyway.

The mission reward was only about 300 points per person. Even with the bonus objective—reclaiming the Shiganshina District—it'd only add up to maybe 500 points each.

And he was sure they'd all use those points to redeem a 500-point team contract, meaning all those points would come right back to him. Not a single one would go to waste.

Flawless plan.

Speaking of which, didn't Madara summon a knockoff-style Wood Dragon during his time in the One Piece world?

If Nawaki couldn't outperform that, wouldn't that make his perfect Wood Style look weak?

A grin spread across his face. Nawaki pressed his palms together and formed the Ram seal.

Wood Style: Wood Dragon Jutsu!

The ground trembled as chakra surged forth.

Before the eyes of countless Titan world civilians, homes were uprooted, and massive trees burst from the earth, quickly forming a towering forest that blotted out the sky!

The twisting, interweaving trees compressed together, quickly forming a sturdy body. At the peak, the roots tangled and merged into the shape of a distinctly dragon-like head.

In just a few seconds, a massive wood dragon—over seventy meters tall—was born.

The dragon gave its head a slight shake, its sharp eyes locking onto the slightly shorter Colossal Titan. Then it opened its mouth—

ROOOOAAARR!!!

A thunderous dragon's roar echoed through the sky.

Unlike the usual wooden dragons created with standard Wood Style techniques, Nawaki's dragon pulsed with vibrant life and spirit, behaving like a real, sentient creature. It could even make sound.

Madara's wood dragon, by comparison, could only roar in silence.

"Heh. Now you don't have a size advantage anymore."

With a smirk, Nawaki gave his dragon an order.

The massive creature bent low and slithered swiftly through the 15-meter gate tunnel, smashing through several regular Titans in the process and widening the tunnel as it went. But that wasn't important.

Its jaws snapped open and clamped down on the Colossal Titan's leg, then flung it violently.

The Titan was hurled into the city with a thunderous crash, flattening buildings in its wake.

The ground shook as the two giants began to brawl.

Dragon vs. Titan!

The battle didn't last long.

Even though the Colossal Titan was over 50 meters tall, its body was astonishingly fragile. After just a few exchanges, the wood dragon ripped off one of its arms and hurled it into the city.

Even when the Titan released a blast of scalding steam, it had no effect on the wood-based dragon's body.

Realizing it couldn't win, the Colossal Titan—possessing human intelligence—tried to escape. After releasing a cloud of steam to obscure its exit, it slipped out of its Titan body.

And died.

The wood dragon, though it looked like it had eyes, actually relied on life energy to sense enemies. Mere steam couldn't block its perception.

It effortlessly crushed this future plot-important character.

That one Colossal Titan earned Nawaki 500 points.

Normally, a C-rank opponent would only grant 100 points. The extra clearly came from the "plot significance" bonus…

"Only five hundred? That's kind of stingy."

Nawaki clicked his tongue. That wasn't even enough to pay for a Reincarnation Talisman—it was a losing deal.

Good thing he'd prepared for that.

Checking the dynamic radar, Nawaki saw that the Armored Titan was fleeing at high speed. With that, he updated the mission status.

A voice echoed in the minds of Minato and the others.

[Main Mission completed. You may return now or remain for half a day. Forced return will occur after half a day.]

"Stay."

As expected, Minato and the others didn't opt for immediate return.

They hadn't fully vented their rage toward the Titans yet.

And so, with the gate sealed by Wood Style and the remaining Titans being systematically eliminated, the bloodbath continued through the night.

It wasn't until dawn that the Shiganshina District was finally cleared of Titans.

By then, Minato and Nagato were lying exhausted atop the wall. Yahiko, still injured, hadn't joined the battle.

Nawaki stood nearby, smiling as he watched the three kids. Next time, he wouldn't have to bring any newbies along. It felt great.

Suddenly, Nagato—his long bangs obscuring his eyes, his voice somber—spoke.

"Big Brother Nawaki… Why is it that no matter what world we visit, there's always chaos, death, hatred… pain?"

Nawaki tilted his head to the sky in silence.

How was he supposed to answer such a question? There had never been a definitive answer.

After a moment, he gave a vague reply.

"If you're strong enough… truly powerful… you can end all conflict and bring peace to the world."

A typical answer—but perfect for a brooding teenager like Nagato.

Yes, continue seeking power through the Reincarnator Mission. That's the proper path!

The three kids fell silent, seemingly pondering Nawaki's words.

Then the Lord God's voice rang out once more.
