Tension and Tenderness in the Aftermath

The atmosphere in the living room crackled with tension as Liam and I settled on the couch across from Rhys. His dark eyes never left us, tracking every movement like a predator studying its prey. I shifted uncomfortably under his scrutiny, hyperaware of Liam's presence beside me.

"So," Ethan broke the awkward silence, his gaze shifting between Liam and me, "how long have you two known each other, Thorne?"

I could feel Rhys's stare intensify at the question. The muscle in his jaw ticked visibly.

"We met at the university library," I answered before Liam could, hoping to diffuse some of the tension. "It was during midterms last semester."

Liam smiled at me, his eyes warming with the memory. "Elara was carrying this massive stack of books—couldn't even see over the top of them."

"I bumped right into him," I continued, relaxing slightly as I recalled the memory. "Books went flying everywhere. It was mortifying."
