A Late Night Summons to an Alpha's Court

The music pounded around me as I weaved between dancing bodies, laughing at something Raina said about her grandmother's cat. Despite my initial hesitation about coming to the Moonlight Lounge, I was enjoying myself. The atmosphere was electric, and for once, I wasn't thinking about work responsibilities or pack politics.

"I should get going soon," I told Raina, checking my watch. "Early meeting tomorrow."

She pouted dramatically. "Come on, El. It's barely midnight! Live a little!"

I was about to respond when my phone vibrated in my clutch. Unknown number. I considered ignoring it but something told me to answer.

"Hello?" I had to press my finger against my other ear to hear anything.

"Elara Vance." The cold, clipped voice made my smile drop instantly. "This is Beta Blaise."

Great. Just what I needed.

"Beta Blaise," I replied, keeping my voice neutral despite my immediate annoyance. "What can I do for you at this hour?"

"Alpha Orion requires your presence. Immediately."
