A Promise of Mercy and a Rival's Return

Orion's words hung in the air between us like a prophecy. *Tomorrow everything changes.* The weight of those words pressed on my chest, making it hard to breathe.

"What do you mean?" I asked, very aware of his thumb still tracing along my jawline.

Instead of answering, he stepped back, breaking the intimate moment. His eyes remained intense, but his expression softened into something more playful.

"Do you want to play?" he asked, nodding toward the basketball court.

The sudden change in topic threw me off balance. "Basketball? Now? It's after midnight, and you just delivered some cryptic warning about tomorrow."

Orion picked up the ball and spun it on his finger again. "Sometimes the best way to prepare for tomorrow's battles is to clear your mind tonight."

I sighed, glancing down at my outfit. "I'm wearing a dress and heels, Alpha."

"I have gym clothes that will fit you," he said. "Unless you're afraid I'll beat you too badly?"
