The Villain's Claim

I stared at Rhys, trying to process his words about Orion and Faye. His body was so close to mine that I could feel the heat radiating from him, making it hard to think clearly.

"Get away from me," I managed to say, pushing against his chest. "I don't believe you."

But even as I said it, doubt crawled through my mind. Hadn't I just seen Orion leaving with Faye, his tenderness toward her unmistakable?

Rhys didn't budge. His eyes darkened dangerously as he leaned closer, his breath fanning my face. "You kissed him," he said, his voice low and deadly. "Right in front of me."

"So what?" I lifted my chin defiantly. "I'm not yours anymore. I can kiss whoever I want."

His jaw clenched so hard I thought he might crack a tooth. "Is that what you think? That you can parade around with another Alpha and I'll just stand by and watch?"

"Yes," I hissed. "That's exactly what I think. You rejected me, remember? You made your choice four years ago."
