"You bring some random girl home—then act like nothing happened?"
"She's not random. And don't act like you're my wife."
That shut her up for half a second. Just half.
"You're disgusting," she spat.
I laughed once, bitter. "You're the one who signed up for this. Don't act shocked now."
She flinched, just slightly. I caught it.
"You think that makes what you did okay?" she said.
I stepped closer. "What exactly did I do? Live my life? I didn't put a ring on your finger. I didn't promise you anything."
"You kissed me, Ace."
"And you kissed me back."
"That's not the point."
"It is," I said. "Because now you think this—whatever's happening between us—is something more. It's not."
She froze. Her mouth parted like she didn't expect me to say it out loud.
I didn't stop.
