Chapter 8

It was the morning of the full moon, and the weather was incredibly clear. Sunlight peeked through a gap in the curtains, adding to my excitement for the journey ahead.

I checked my bags: a few changes of clothes, my research materials, the notes Alaric had left me, the silver ring from Grayson, and Dr. Joseph's medicine. It wasn't much, but it was everything I had to my name.

Before setting off, I decided to swing by the "Laurel Cafe" in the neutral zone – it was neutral ground for the werewolf packs, and also the last place I'd seen Alaric.

The cafe was on the edge of the city. It looked pretty ordinary from the outside, but inside it was surprisingly elegant. I found a quiet corner table and ordered a black coffee.

I was just settling into my thoughts when a familiar voice said, "Elara, long time no see."
