The Girlfriend

The Great Oni

Volume (1) Benoni Chapter (22)

"Aarunyuu Grand-Alliance Government," Li Fan murmured, bright-eyed.

Only after he visited the library did he understand how things had unfolded.

After Yeti died, the momentum of the Aarunyuu Empire had never stopped.

King Artha, at the age of 98, succeeded in conquering the entire world; even now, in the year 2040—seven hundred years later—the Aarunyuu Empire still endures.

Sadly, it was recorded that King Artha passed away of old-age sickness at 109.

Afterward the second son, Victor-Si, ruled for forty years; though he never equaled his father's skill or heart, he still managed to keep the throne from falling.

First son Renintha served as a general, while youngest daughter Ya-Tin replaced Yeti as imperial adviser.

Yet all of them have already passed away.

At present the Aarunyuu Empire has been re-branded the "Aarunyuu Grand-Alliance Government," but it still rules the entire globe.

The current ruler, King Anthony, is the forty-eighth monarch.

Although world history is vastly different from before, science and technology remain about the same.

Sports, schools, cities—everything is still there; only the government changed.

Suppressing the tightness that rose in his chest, Li Fan closed the book.

Its title was "History of the Aarunyuu Empire," and it praised Yeti as a truly remarkable woman.

Exhaling, Li Fan returned the thick volume to its shelf.

Then he simply stood there, dazed, for several minutes.

He was now in the city library; because it was summer vacation the building was crowded.

Still, being a library, only the sound of pages turning dominated the air.

Li Fan failed to notice that girls kept glancing at him with shining eyes, and even the boys found his looks hard to ignore.

"Whoa, am I turning gay?" A young man reading nearby felt his heartbeat race while staring at Li Fan, then jolted in alarm.

"Hey."

While Li Fan was lost in thought, a girl bumped his shoulder.

He snapped back to reality and turned.

He saw a stunning, lovable girl with a high ponytail.

She wore a sky-blue T-shirt and a coffee-colored skirt that covered her knees.

Even standing this close to Li Fan's face, she found him so calm that she felt slightly dissatisfied.

In a steady voice Li Fan asked, "Who are you?"

The girl blinked, then stared hard at his unfamiliar expression and explained,

"That day you helped my little brother when some thugs were hassling him.

"I was in a hurry and never thanked you properly."

"Is that so?" Li Fan admitted, still blank—he'd clearly forgotten the incident.

The girl looked crestfallen, but quickly adjusted her face and smiled sweetly.

"My name's Yue-Yin-A."

Li Fan nodded and introduced himself. "I'm Li Fan."

Silence hung between them for a moment.

Thinking she'd exhausted small talk, Li Fan turned to choose another book.

Yue-A twitched: *Isn't he even going to ask for my number?*

She began doubting her own charm and eyed him sideways.

Then she cleared her throat. "A-hem… Big Brother Li Fan, thank you for helping."

Li Fan turned, nodded once, and said, "Sure. Also, I'm only fourteen."

Yue-A's eyes widened. She looked him over.

"Really fourteen? Then you're a little brother—big sister is already seventeen," she said triumphantly.

Li Fan nodded again and went back to scanning shelves.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" Yue-A asked, half sulking.

*If he doesn't, he should show at least a hint of interest. Or is he… gay?*

The thought made her shiver.

"Uh-huh. I don't," Li Fan answered absent-mindedly.

He slid the book back, stepped close, and studied her.

"Big sister—do you like me?" he asked, face placid.

Yue-A turned beet red, stammering, "I… I just wanted to say thanks…"

Li Fan raised a brow. "Want to date me, big sister?"

Yue-A froze again.

Inside the washroom, Yue-A washed her hands, then checked her reflection: absolutely gorgeous, like a little fairy no ordinary man could approach.

She still blushed, dried her hands, and stepped outside.

Li Fan was waiting. When he saw her he took her hand and asked,

"Where shall we go, Sister Yue-A?"

Hello, everyone.

My name is Yue-Yin-A.

I'm seventeen now, and in another month I'll turn eighteen.

Today, unexpectedly, I got myself a boyfriend—he's three years younger, only fourteen, yet unbelievably mature. Am I going to jail for dating underage???

"Uh… it's lunchtime already. Shall we eat something?" Yue-A suggested, answering Li Fan's earlier question.

Since this was her first boyfriend, she had no idea what else to do beyond eating and maybe strolling.

"Sounds good," Li Fan agreed and led her to a nice restaurant.

He happened to have about seven hundred dollars of unknown origin, so he chose a classy place. He'd already forgotten the cash came from those thugs.

Hand in hand, the new lovebirds walked across the plaza, where plenty of good eateries could be found close by.
