"Alpha!" A patrolman burst into the hall, "Intruders at the northern border!"
Kaelan tensed. "How many?"
"At least twenty warriors, and..." The guard faltered. "Selena. She's leading them."
Kaelan and I locked eyes. She was really back. Way sooner than we’d figured.
"Muster the warriors," Kaelan commanded. "I'm leading a team to the border myself."
"I'm going too," I said, my voice firm.
Dad stepped forward. "Be careful, kids. Selena's cornered and that's just gonna make her more dangerous."
We shifted fast, leading our elite warriors as we tore towards the border. In the distance, we spotted a pack of werewolves standing just outside the boundary line, Selena front and center, a tall, unfamiliar guy beside her.
"Who's that?" Kaelan muttered.
I sized the man up—he was built, had a heavy presence, and eyes like a predator. "No idea, but he's definitely Alpha."
We shifted back to human and walked forward. Both sides were bristling, on the verge of an all-out brawl.
