Chapter 30: Cassias' Trick

One man had a scar near his eye, ferocious-looking. He slapped Daniel's shoulder and asked condescendingly, "Where are they? Didn't you say that they are here?"

Daniel jolted, and he shrunk further the moment he saw familiar figures opening the door. He lowered his gaze.

When the thug-like men saw people coming out of the door, they tossed Daniel to the side and took a few steps back. The scar-eyed man snorted, "Mr. Valez, you are also here."

"Henry, what are you doing here?" Darren narrowed his eyes. Henry Brown was the eldest son of the Brown family, and his position was similar to Darren's in the Valez family. They had a few years difference, with Henry being the older one.

Henry gestured to his people, dragging one among the crowd, opening his mask and hoodie cap. The man had a face as black as the bottom of a pot, along with his hair that stood up like a porcupine. It made him appear comical.

On top of such an appearance, Darren remembered his people reporting that those people had been walking with only underwear on. His mouth twitched, trying hard to restrain his laughter.

His eyes involuntarily found Nyra's figure not far from him; his expression softened. Clearing his throat, he pretended to ask, "What happened to him?"

Laziel was taken aback when he saw such fierce people making trouble at their doorsteps. When he saw Zerra, who almost couldn't hold back her laughter, he glared at her before stepping in front of her to block her from the aggressive visitors' eyes.

"You are still pretending until now, Valez? You know exactly what happened!" Henry grunted. His fingers went to point to Cassias, Nyra, and then… he squinted his eyes and said roughly, "that one behind the sissy. They are all responsible."

Laziel's nostrils flared, especially when he heard Zerra snickering directly to his ears. He was tempted to drag her in front of him, but he knew that with her temper, she would most likely worsen the trouble for them.

After Zerra's laughter subsided, she let out a sigh and frowned, realizing she had threaded in yet another thin ice. Usually, whatever she did would trigger some kind of misunderstanding.

For example, those thugs would get offended by her laughter and make even more trouble. Such instances were always out of her control and caught her off guard. Surprisingly, she dodged it this time.

Another example was when she was bored and helped in the kitchen. Coincidentally, some people who ate got poisoned that day, making her one of the suspects.

There were also instances where she offered to help in the hospital. Out of nowhere, the patients that she was taking care of became zombies not long after.

Over time, she learned her lesson. So, she just went with the flow and acted like a salted fish, absolutely passive in a lot of situations. Well, there were a few exceptions, and every time she made sure that her plot armor was still on.

Darren frowned when he heard Henry's words. "We have agreed that the shelter only takes one third of the supplies in all missions they have collected. Those people are willing to go out at the risk of their lives falling in the hands of a zombie siege. Your people…"

He swept his gaze to Henry's lackeys, who avoided his eyes. "They ordered my friends to hand over at least two-thirds of the items."

"Nonsense." Henry immediately refuted, "Your so-called friends just didn't want to hand over the supplies and want to take all for themselves. They even used violence when they knew the guards were from the Brown family."

"Yes, that is absolutely unacceptable!" The one who had opened his hoodie voiced his agreement. He felt a bit humiliated when he saw those people holding back their laughter earlier.

"We already handed over the supplies to the shelter." Cassias, who had been silent since they came, opened his mouth. "Is that the reason you all have come here, right? You want us to follow the shelter's rules and we already did."

Cassias' words directly hit the nail in the head and the people fell silent. They exchanged glances. They wanted to retrieve the supplies for their own use, unexpectedly…

Still, they were reluctant to return with nothing at all.

Henry scrutinized Cassias, whose presence wasn't that noticeable earlier. He had known that this man was the lightning power wielder, and one girl was a fire ability user–he just hadn't known which one.

He cleared his throat, and his mind spun. When he saw the unsightly scene of his lackey's faces, he turned and scowled at Cassias and his party. "Do you think that's enough? How about the superpower abuse you used against my people?"

The moment his lackeys heard that, they instantly chimed in.

"Yes, don't you see our faces and limbs?"

"Those people abused their power against us ordinary humans? Is the Valez family going to protect that kind of people in the apocalypse?"

Their words attracted more people, and they all gathered curiously to watch the commotion. On this floor, there were still many people who hadn't awakened superpowers yet, but they were strong enough in terms of physique.

When they heard Henry and his lackeys' words, they condemned Nyra and others.

Daniel watched all of this from the sideline. His eyes flickered. He thought secretly in his heart, that's what you get for kicking me out of the room and switched it with that sissy…

Zerra scoffed when she heard that. "That's because you all sexually harassed me and my sister with your words!"

The man with the scar lifted his eyebrow condescendingly. "You all just don't want to compensate, that's why you slandered us! We worked tirelessly to guard the other gate from zombies and that's how you all treat us?"

"Mr. Valez, what do–" before Henry could finish his words, they heard a loud voice ringing in their ears.

"Hey, beauty…" the next words were the exact words they had used on Sylvaris sisters. Henry stopped and their faces flushed in embarrassment and panic. Especially when they saw the way others were looking at them had changed.

The recording came from the pen in Cassias' hand, who had a gentlemanly smile but icy look in his eyes.

"How is it, Mr. Brown? It wasn't us who started it first, right? Or do you also want to hear about the amount of supplies they quoted that needed to be handed to the shelter?" Cassias raised his eyebrows.

Henry stiffly glanced at his people, who avoided his eyes. Their faces appeared frightened. He sent a deep look toward Cassias, reassessing this cunning man in his head, who even bothered to pick up a recording pen.

Now, they didn't know how to get out of the awkward situation. Henry's face stiffened and he could only swallow his anger. "I will apologize for the disturbance we have caused. It's my subordinates that have been wrong in their conduct. I will make sure to discipline them…"

Just as he was about to turn around and walk away, someone broke through the crowd and appeared in front of them. He panted a bit before his eyes lit up with some relief.

"It's great that Mr. Brown and Mr. Valez are here. I want to report that the northern part of our hospital had been attacked by some zombies and mutated animals!"
