Rachel was completely lost in her thoughts about Faith.
Her mind felt totally blank as she saw Kellan walking toward her.
The memory of what happened the day before suddenly rushed back and made her panic.
She tried to push him away in a fluster, but Kellan used that moment to pull her into his arms.
His sharp features and deep, attractive voice could make anyone's heart skip. But to Rachel, it just felt like some shameless attempt to mess with her.
She gritted her teeth and forced down the discomfort, trying to sound calm as she asked Kellan to help her find Faith.
She knew she needed to keep a straight face when asking for favors like this.
Without a word, Kellan lifted her and placed her in the driver's seat. Then he got in the car beside her.
Cora turned to smile sweetly at the man in the backseat.
She was really impressed by how tall and good-looking he was, and the way he dressed, like he belonged in a magazine.
And honestly, he did kind of match with her mommy.
Rachel, meanwhile, was still frozen from being carried like that.
"Drive," Kellan ordered coldly.
Rachel hurriedly put on her seatbelt and started the car.
"You were standing outside this whole time? Are you stupid? I told you to wait in the car!" Kellan snapped, annoyed.
"It was you... you told me to wait for you!" Rachel replied, her voice shaking.
"I told you to wait here, so just wait here. Are you stupid?" he said again, raising an eyebrow, an unfamiliar look crossing his face.
Just then, Kellan's phone buzzed.
It was Assistant Hall, sending over a location.
The address was near Faith's home, but not quite. Rachel's instincts told her something was definitely wrong.
She stepped on the gas and sped down the road. The car stayed steady, giving off luxury sports car vibes.
The fast speed paired with her slim figure just didn't match, and the image felt strange somehow.
They drove to the outskirts of town, somewhere really deserted. It was totally quiet now. Rachel's heart pounded hard in her chest.
"Please don't be in trouble, Faith..." she whispered to herself.
Meanwhile, Faith was completely worn out, trapped on the edge of a forest.
She kept struggling, but the middle-aged man trying to attack her was just too strong. Her clothes were ripped, and his breath stank like garbage.
He was about to do something disgusting.
She tried to fight back with all her strength, but her body was giving up. Her hands trembled, and she felt like collapsing.
Rachel's car kept moving forward. Not far off, they saw a yellow taxi, and there were faint noises coming from the woods.
Rachel slammed the brakes.
She was about to run into the forest when suddenly, a tall figure stepped in front of her.
Kellan reached out and grabbed her wrist.
"Stay in the car with the kid. I'll handle it," he said coldly, looking her straight in the eyes.
Honestly, one man was more than enough.
Kellan stood 1.9 meters tall.
His whole presence was powerful and commanding.
Rachel looked up at his face, handsome and serious, and felt a weird sense of safety. Was it all just in her head?
He had literally bullied her yesterday...
Cora's big black eyes lit up like stars. Her "dad" was so cool, he looked like a shining superhero protecting her mommy.
"I'll handle my own employee," Kellan said without even looking at Rachel. "You're just a woman with a kid. Don't get involved."
His voice was flat and heartless.
Still, Rachel's heart wouldn't listen.
Kellan turned and walked straight into the dark forest.
Faith thought she was hallucinating, was that a sound? Someone was coming?
It was her last bit of hope. She shoved the man off with everything she had and started running toward the road.
The man was shocked she still had strength to push him, but he immediately gave chase.
Faith's skin was scratched, and her clothes were in pieces. But she ran as fast as she could.
Not far away, she spotted a tall, noble-looking man in fancy clothes walking in her direction. She pushed herself even harder.
"Help!!" she shouted, panting like crazy.
Before she could even finish, the man's cold, commanding voice rang out:
"The blue car outside is waiting."
The middle-aged man chasing her growled, "Mind your own damn business!"
Faith didn't dare stop. She ran like crazy toward the blue car the man had mentioned.
"You dare mess with me?! You're asking for death!" the man shouted angrily, kicking her hard.
"Mercy! Please, mercy! I won't do it again!" The strong man was getting beaten so bad, his whole body was shaking.
Rachel spotted Faith running toward them from a distance.
She quickly got out of the car and ran to catch her. Faith collapsed into Rachel's arms, trembling.
"Wah…" Seeing it was Rachel, Faith almost broke down completely.
Her breathing was rough, and what just happened left her legs weak and her whole body shaking.
"It's okay, it's okay…" Rachel gently patted her on the shoulder, trying to calm her down.
Kellan made sure the middle-aged man couldn't get up before walking out of the woods.
Faith had already cried her eyes out and was just quietly sobbing now.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?" Rachel asked, worried.
"Thank you… I'm okay. I'm really grateful you showed up when you did," Faith said between sobs.
"But didn't you call me to pick you up? How did you end up in that guy's car?" Rachel asked, confused.
"I was just super tired and starving today. He saw me standing there and asked where I was headed. He said he was going the same way and offered me a free ride. He said his car was legit, so I believed him. He looked like a normal, decent guy. I didn't expect any of this…" Faith's voice cracked again as she started crying more.
"I tried calling you, but you didn't answer," Rachel said softly.
"My phone was in my bag… I didn't even hear it ring. When I realized something was off and wanted to call you, he snatched my bag," Faith said, looking down.
She then looked up at Rachel and hugged her tight. "Rachel, thank you so much. If you didn't come, I don't even know what would've happened."
Kellan had already come back and was standing silently behind them.
He wore a perfectly fitted dress shirt and vest, showing off his tall, lean frame.
His deep, sharp eyes glinted like a hawk's, and the shape of his high nose and slightly cold lips made his face look ridiculously handsome.
Rachel gently patted Faith's shoulder and said, "You should thank him. He's the one who saved you."
Him? The man who rescued her?
Faith had been crying so hard on Rachel's shoulder that she completely forgot to thank the guy who actually stepped in.
She turned around and saw the sharp-dressed man standing in front of her, tall, refined, and way too handsome.
Her eyes widened in shock.
"Isn't he the famous, rich, crazy-good-looking CEO…?"
"The CEO!" Faith gasped in disbelief.
