Rayna waited patiently for the man to speak up but she was inwardly worried since he wasn't saying anything and just staring at her.
Rayna was thinking that she should come back to check on him and was about to tell the doctor that they would come back but the old man interrupted her.
"I am fine." The old man replied in a hoarse voice.
The old man finally had a good look at the familiar face he remembered from the accident scene. The same girl who saved his life.
Rayna immediately poured a glass of water for him and helped him sit comfortably on the bed by placing the pillow behind him before handing him the cup of water.
A few minutes later...
The officer came into the old man's room to ask about the accident.
"Sir, can you remember how the accident happened?" The officer asked the old man.
"Yes, my driver lost control for a moment." The old man replied casually as if it wasn't a big deal.
Rayna frowned.
"Ohh? How did that happen, Sir?" The officer questioned.
The old man then went ahead to explain what led to the accident and how it happened.
"Now, can you go out of my room? I would like to rest." The old man said coldly.
"Alright, sir. Luckily, your phone wasn't damaged that much, and we have managed to call your family; they should be here any time soon." The officer informed.
The old man looked at the officer coldly but didn't say anything.
The officer looked at his colleague, wondering if he had said something wrong. The latter just shrugged.
They all left the room, leaving only Rayna and her brother with the old man.
"We would also leave you to rest now." Rayna said and was about to push her brother's wheelchair out of the room, but the old man stopped her.
"Wait!" The old man called out.
"I haven't thanked you yet."
"Ohh, that's no problem. I would have saved anyone, given the situation." Rayna replied with a smile.
"Still I would like to thank you."
Before Rayna could speak, the doctor came in to inform the old man, "Sir, your family is here."
"We should leave now." Liam said.
"Alright. Rest well, sir." Rayna said and pushed her brother out of the room.
"Would you like to go to the garden?" Rayna asked Liam softly.
"Alright." Liam replied.
Minutes later, the siblings got to the garden where children were playing and laughing with each other. Women basking in the morning sun and some men playing cards under the shade.
Liam breathed in the air and he felt relaxed.
"You know, Mum used to like coming to the garden. She said the scent of the flowers made her relaxed." Rayna said with a sad smile, remembering when she would accompany her mother to the garden.
"Really? I also feel relaxed." Liam said with a smile.
"Mmm! I forgot to tell you, I don't have any place to stay. I lodged our things at the hotel." Rayna said. "What should I do? I don't have enough money to rent an apartment."
"You don't have to worry about that." Liam replied.
"Of course, I have to worry. Where will we stay? We can't stay at the hotel forever."
"I haven't told you this before, and I didn't think we would need it but mum gave me a house before I left for the US." Liam said.
"Ohh? How come she never told me?" Rayna asked, confused.
"I don't know. I didn't think we would need another house when we already had one but she insisted that she bought it." Liam replied.
"That's great then!" Rayna said happily.
"I have to find a job also, but I have no work experience."
If Rayna's best friend was here she would have laughed at her for saying such; have no work experience?! Wah!
"Let's take it step by step for now, okay?" Liam told her.
"I'll listen to you, Li." Rayna replied.
The siblings conversed about other things as they enjoyed the morning air in the garden.
Meanwhile at the old man's room...
"What are you doing here?" The old man asked with a pout.
The people in the room all looked at him wordlessly.
This old man was precisely the owner of one of the biggest hotels in the country and the chairman of the 'Black's Corp,' Benjamin Black.
His wealth was immense and his influence extended far beyond the business world. As the head of the Black family, he was respected and admired.
"We came to bring you home, Dad." His second son, Harris said with a smile.
"So, you don't care to ask how I am doing? You just want to take me home quickly so you both can return to your work, is that not right?" Benjamin Black asked them, turning to look away from them. "Continue with your work, this old man won't disturb you."
"Don't be like this father, it's not like that." Harris said as he walked over and sat beside his father, holding his hands.
Benjamin was about to retort when the room's door burst open.
"Grandpaaaa!" A little girl, not more than four years old ran inside the room calling out to him.
"My baby." Grandpa Black was all smiles immediately.
"Put her on the bed for me." He commanded Harris who immediately did as he was told.
"I missed you, grandpa. Where did you go? Are you sick?" The little girl touched his forehead as a crease formed on her forehead.
"You are not having a fever. Why are you in the hospital, Grandpa?"
"Mmm? Grandpa was involved in a minor accident." Grandpa replied with a smile
"Ohh? Is Grandpa fine now? Has the doctor checked on you?" The girl asked.
"Yes, the doctor has checked on Grandpa."
"Okay. But you have to promise me that you won't get hurt again. I don't want Grandpa to be hurt."
"It is only Mia that cares about Grandpa." Grandpa Black glanced at the brothers before giving them a glare.
"I will always care about Grandpa. Can we go home now? I have missed Grandpa's stories." Mia said happily.
Harris stood beside his twin brother who hadn't said anything since they came in.
"I told you this would work, Harvis" Harris whispered as he watched his father and daughter talk while laughing.
"Only you would think to use your daughter like this." Harvis said.
"Of course, it is the easiest and fastest method to bring this old man home." Harris replied with a shrug and Harvis just shook his head.
"Alright, let's go home." Grandpa Black said.
"We have to check with your doctor first, you only woke up this morning." Harvis said, his expression serious.
"What are you doing standing there then? Get going!" Grandpa Black snapped at them.
"Why so nappy? One minute, you are warm and loving, and the next minute, you are like a lion." Harris muttered as he strolled out of the room to call the doctor.
"What did you say?!" Grandpa Black asked sternly.
"Nothing!" Harris opened the door quickly and fled for his life.
