Chapter 9

I couldn’t dodge in time, the blade aimed straight for my heart.

Suddenly, someone lunged in front of me.

"Sera, look out!"

Seeing who it was, Delilah froze.

"Why! Why, Julian! Why would you save her?"

Julian had taken the blow for me.

His face twisted in agony, he gasped out weakly, "Sera… don’t… don’t be angry with me… I… I was wrong."

Julian was rushed to the ICU.

But the memories of my past life, the excruciating pain of being drained of blood until I was numb, still haunted me.

Even if Julian had died shielding me, my heart remained completely unmoved.

He’d only done it because he saw Delilah was no longer reliable and wanted to crawl back to me, his dependable safety net.

After all, he still had a gambling-addict father at home whose debts someone needed to cover.

If it weren’t for what happened in my past life, I might have actually been moved to tears.

But I had already died once, and Julian himself had been the one to kill me.
