Chapter 48: General... are you ill?

[Jing Yuan: Fu Xuan, do you want to become a General?]

[Fu Xuan: ?]

[Jing Yuan: Come to the Seat of Divine Foresight immediately.]

"General, are you finally stepping down?!"

Moments later, the doors of the Seat of Divine Foresight's main hall burst open.

A pink-haired young girl rushed in, her face flushed, her breath coming in ragged gasps, and a light sheen of sweat glistening on her forehead. She couldn't hide the barely suppressed excitement in her voice.

Lumina: (★ ω ★)

Lumina's eyes lit up at the sight of the pink-haired girl, and her mood instantly brightened.

"Ahem... cough cough."

Sensing Lumina's rather direct gaze, the girl noticed Lumina seated across from Jing Yuan. Realizing she had lost her composure, she coughed to regain her composure and straightened her appearance.

Approaching the pair, she turned to Jing Yuan and began, "General, you..."

"Haha, Fu Xuan, you've arrived just in time!" Jing Yuan chuckled, cutting her off. He gestured to the empty chair beside Lumina, inviting her to sit.

"Lady Fu, please have a seat."

Fu Xuan remained silent, glancing at Lumina before sitting down.

Once Fu Xuan was seated, Jing Yuan turned to Lumina with a smile and introduced them. "Miss Lumina, this is Fu Xuan, the current Master Diviner of the Divination Commission."

He then turned to Fu Xuan and introduced Lumina. "And this is Lumina, a distinguished guest of Luofu."

"Lady Fu Xuan, Master Diviner, it's a pleasure to meet you," Lumina said, gazing at the pink-haired young girl before her, who was trying to appear stern and dignified. Suppressing a laugh, she maintained a gentle expression, spoke warmly, and offered Fu Xuan a kind smile.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too," Fu Xuan replied, naturally not wanting to snub a distinguished guest of Luofu. She nodded politely to Lumina with a friendly expression.

Jing Yuan, having observed Lumina's subtle change in expression upon seeing Fu Xuan, let out a silent sigh of relief.

To put it nicely, he was acting as her guide. To put it bluntly, he was keeping her under surveillance.

While showing Lumina around Luofu, he also had to monitor her every move.

In Jing Yuan's mind, only two individuals could fulfill both these roles.

The two candidates were Yanqing and Fu Xuan.

Faced with this choice, Jing Yuan leaned toward Yanqing. His strength was undeniable, and though his temperament could be impulsive, he would prioritize the bigger picture when dealing with esteemed guests. Moreover, as a Cloud Knight, Yanqing's position would streamline many logistical matters.

Fu Xuan, on the other hand, as the Master Diviner of the Divination Commission, already bore a heavy workload. Entrusting her with this task seemed inappropriate.

Despite Jing Yuan having made his decision, a sudden, powerful premonition gripped him. This intuition insisted that while Yanqing was a perfectly suitable candidate, choosing Fu Xuan would yield far greater benefits—not just marginally, but overwhelmingly so.

After a moment's contemplation, Jing Yuan heeded this premonition and selected Fu Xuan for the assignment. Time would prove this decision utterly sound.

Thinking back on this, Jing Yuan turned his gaze to Fu Xuan, his expression growing serious. In a solemn tone, he declared, "Lady Fu, I have a vital mission to entrust to you."

Hearing this and seeing Jing Yuan's earnest and serious expression, Fu Xuan's own expression grew solemn. She perked up her ears, ready to listen intently.

Under Fu Xuan's watchful gaze, Jing Yuan spoke slowly:

"Miss Lumina has just arrived on Luofu and needs a guide to show her around our beautiful scenery."

"After careful consideration, I've concluded that you, Lady Fu, are the most reliable person for this task."

"Therefore, I'm entrusting this important mission to you!"

Fu Xuan: ...Huh?

Listening to Jing Yuan's mission and seeing his unwavering seriousness, Fu Xuan seriously doubted she had heard correctly.

Making the Master Diviner of the Divination Commission a tour guide to show someone around Luofu's scenic spots? Fu Xuan wondered if she was still dreaming to hear such an absurd request.

Noticing Fu Xuan's bewildered, half-awake expression, Jing Yuan abandoned his solemn demeanor and smiled faintly. "Lady Fu," he said, "Miss Lumina will be under your care during her stay on Luofu."

He added warmly, "You're the person I trust and rely on most, Lady Fu. I'm confident you'll handle this perfectly."

"As for the Divination Commission, I trust Lady Fu to handle it."

Jing Yuan's eyes were filled with unwavering trust and confidence in Fu Xuan.

Fu Xuan: ...

Hearing Jing Yuan's words and confirming the details of the mission, Fu Xuan's mouth parted slightly as if she wanted to say something, but she quickly closed it again, her expression one of utter disbelief.

She lowered her head and pondered for a moment before looking up at Jing Yuan with a complex expression. Her lips moved slightly as she asked:

"General... are you... ill?"

-

"I'll be in your care for the time being, Lady Fu Xuan."

Outside the Seat of Divine Foresight, Lumina gazed down at Fu Xuan, who barely reached her chest. She brushed a strand of hair aside and tilted her head with a smile.

Fu Xuan's expression was a mix of emotions.

Although the task Jing Yuan had assigned her was utterly absurd, she couldn't refuse an order from the General.

Fu Xuan crossed her arms, looked up at Lumina's cheerful face, and asked, "Luofu has many scenic spots and historical sites. Is there anywhere you'd like to visit?"

"Not particularly," Lumina replied with a gentle shake of her head.

After a moment's thought, Fu Xuan suggested, "In that case, I'll take you to some places I find particularly beautiful first."

"Okay~" Lumina nodded, a soft smile gracing her lips.

Compared to all the scenery and historical sites, the pink-haired girl before her was far more intriguing♪

But that was something she couldn't say aloud just yet...
