Chapter 6: The Auction

"Dad!!! Aren't you done yet?" Sarah asked her uncle from the sitting room where she was sitting.

"Just a minute dear, I'm almost done," her uncle screamed from his room.

"Please dad hurry up, you know how much I hate being late to an event," she said to him with a deep frown.

If there was one thing that Sarah hated the most it was being late to an event, right from when she became the CEO of Ethic Textiles in England, punctuality is something that she have always prioritized both in the company and in her private life; in any event she wanted to attend, she always made sure to the at venue twenty or thirty minutes before the agreed time, in the company she have fired many employees for being late, and even where she is right now, if she learns that any employee is not being punctual, she won't hesitate to fire the employee.

"How do I look?" Her uncle asked her as he was coming down from the stairs.

"Handsome as usual despite the old age, I wonder how you managed to remain single till now," she said to him.

"Not everyone is meant to get married dear, some people were created to remain single and I think that's my case; should we get going or do you still want to hear more reasons why I didn't get married?" He asked her with an inquisitive look.

"No thank you, let's get going," she said to him before heading towards the exit with him.

Before they came out, the driver was already waiting for them in the car, once he saw them arriving, he came out and opened the car for the both of them and they entered, afterwards the driver took over the steering and zoomed off.

"I thought you had fired all your drivers," Sarah said to her uncle after some minutes of silence.

"Why do you say so?" He asked her.

"This afternoon when you came to pick me from the airport, you were the one driving the car," she said to him.

"I felt like driving, that's why I didn't bother disturbing any of the drivers or is there anything wrong with that?" She asked her and she shook her head negatively before returning her gaze towards her phone.

In less than twenty minutes, they were already at the venue of the auction, many rich billionaires could be seen getting down from their expensive car walking into the hall where the venue was going to take place.

Getting down from the car, Richard held Sarah's hand as they were heading towards the entrance of the hall, before entering some camera men took their pictures before handing them a mask that they used in covering their faces, it was the rule of the auction, the mask was only to be removed when the people are done buying the items.

Inside the hall people could be seen discussing with each other while sipping the drinks from the glass they were holding, meanwhile Sarah kept looking around to see if she could recognize Xavier among the crowds despite the mask that was covering everyone's face.

After looking for some minutes, she finally saw someone who had the same height as him and the lady standing beside him had the same height as that of Claudia, excusing herself she walked towards Xavier and while approaching him she knowingly hit him with her shoulder and at the same time letting go of her purse.

"Hey are you okay?" Xavier asked her not knowing who she was.

"Yes of course, sorry for bumping into you," she said to him while twisting her voice a little bit so that he won't recognize her, with that she bent down and took her pulse and returned back to where her uncle was, observing everything.

"Do you know that you are a troublemaker?" Her uncle whispered in her ear once she returned.

"I know, and believe me, I haven't even started getting troublesome," she said to her uncle who eyed her before shaking his head in disbelief.

After some minutes, the auctioneer climbed the podium and greeted all those who were present, afterwards he explained to them that the goods he wanted to sell out were ancient architectural material he inherited from his great grandparents and since his company is facing some financial problems that's why he wants to sell it out.

Firstly he presented a jar that had almost lasted two hundred years, with that the people started bidding it but since Sarah didn't see any value in it she didn't mind joining in the bidding neither did Xavier.

After that he presented the second material which was an ancient portrait but Sarah didn't bid it either but Xavier and since he was the highest it was sold to him.

Lastly it was a necklace made of original gold, since it was the most valuable material, it was presented lastly; once the necklace was presented, the people started bidding but just as usual Sarah and Xavier remained silent until the people were done bidding, the last person offered five million for the necklace and just when everyone thought the bid was over Xavier offered t'en million for it causing everyone to gasp in surprise except Sarah and her uncle; the auctioneer was about to sell it to Xavier when Sarah's voice echoed in the crowd as she offered twenty million for the necklace causing everyone to gasp the more and at the same people started murmuring as they started asking who she was.

Meanwhile Xavier and Claudia had already recognized her voice and were only waiting for her to remove her mask in order to confirm their suspicions.

When they were no other person to offer more than what Sarah had offered, the necklace was sold to her and at the same time she slowly removed her mask allowing everyone to see her face including Xavier and Claudia who were staring in shock and at the same time the whispering voices of other people filled the hall as people were surprised to see Sarah Jones one of the richest billionaire in Europe, they only heard rumors about her but never got the chance to meet her in person, but here she was presently in New York City, stunning and authoritative beyond their imaginations.

Once she turned her gaze towards Xavier and Claudia, she smirked devilishly at them.
