Chapter 9:Tragic News

It was a bright morning in New York City. The sun was slowly making its way out of the cloud, engulfing the whole city with its brightness.

Meanwhile, Xavier was just coming out of his room after preparing for work. Once he came down with his briefcase, he saw the maids arranging the breakfast on the dining table, but Justin was nowhere to be found.

Sighing heavily, he called out to one of the maids, who hadn't noticed his presence.

"Good morning, sir," the maid greeted him while bowing down a little bit.

"Where's Justin?" He asked her without replying to her greetings.

"He hasn't come out yet," the maid said to him while avoiding his gaze.

"Please go to his room and tell him to hurry up; if not, the driver will be the one taking him to school," he said to the maid, who nodded in agreement before walking away.

Knowing how much Justin hates being brought to school by the driver, he knows that it won't be long before he comes out.

Taking a seat in front of the dining table, the maids dished out the food, and without hesitating, he started eating. At the same time, Justin, who was already in his uniform, came downstairs and walked to where his father was.

"Good morning, dad," he greeted him before taking a seat beside him.

"Good morning, Justin. What took you so long?" Xavier asked him while munching on the food in his mouth.

"Nothing, dad; it's just that the nanny won't allow me to prepare on my own; she thinks that I'm still a child," Justin said to his father before scooping his food that's already been dished out into his mouth.

"Aren't you a child?" Xavier asked him with an inquisitive look.

"Yes, dad, but I can take care of myself," Justin said to his father, who was staring at him in disbelief.

"I have heard grown up man, but please, in the meantime, allow your nanny to be getting you ready; if not, the driver will be the one taking you to school," Xavier said to him and nodded in agreement.

After breakfast, Justin waited for his father to drive the car out of the garage. Once he did, Justin entered before Xavier zoomed off.

"Daddy, can I ask you a question?" Justin asked Xavier whose attention was focused on the steering.

"Yes, go on?" Xavier said to him:.

"Why did you and my real mom get divorced?" Justin asked him, and immediately Xavier furrowed his brows at him in surprise, wondering why he was suddenly asking him that question.

"Who told you that your real mom and I got divorced? Xavier asked him.

"That's what our teacher told us yesterday, that if our mom and dad aren't living together, that means that they are either separated or divorced, but if any of them remarries, that means that they are divorced," Justin explained to his father, who nodded positively before speeding off in order to get to his school quickly in order to avoid answering the little kids question. In the meantime, he wasn't yet ready to explain to him the main reason why he and his real mother are no longer together, and he was not even sure that he's ever going to tell him about it. How would he see him after learning about what he did to his mother five years ago? Surely he would see him as the devil himself.

"Dad, you haven't answered my question yet," Justin said to him, jolting him back to reality, and happily, he was just some distance away from the school.

Turning his gaze towards Justin, he sighed heavily before smiling at him.

"I would have really loved to discuss it with you, but I think we will leave it for next time," he said to him before pulling over in front of the school.

"Okay, daddy, I love you," Justin said to him.

"I love you too; be a good boy," he said to him before caressing his head, and he smiled at him before opening the car and getting off.

Once he got down, he waved at him before joining the teacher, who led him into the school.

Heaving a sigh of relief, Xavier ignited the car and was about to zoom off, but immediately his phone started ringing. With that, he switched off the car, brought out the phone from his pocket, and checked the caller ID, which was one of his clients who had ordered some goods from his company.

"Hi, Mr. Charles. How are you?" Xavier asked him through the phone.

"Good, what about you?" Mr. Charles asked him from the other end.

"I'm good too; it's about the goods you ordered, right?" He asked him.

"Yes, of course; you told me that they were arriving today," Mr. Charles said to him.

"Yes, Mr. Charles, my shipments will arrive very soon; they were supposed to arrive last night, but there was a little delay," he explained to Mr. Charles.

"Ok, Mr. Xavier, by what time should I be expecting it then?" Mr. Charles asked him from the other end.

"Before twelve PM, we will deliver it to your company," he said to him.

"Ok, I will be expecting you then," he said to him before hanging up.

Once the call was hung up, Xavier placed a call on one of his men, whom he had sent to check why the ships hadn't arrived yet.

After some minutes, the call was picked up.

"Hi Ben, have you arrived yet?" Xavier asked him through the phone.

"Yes, Boss," he said to him shortly.

"Okay, any news yet?" He asked him.

"Yes, Boss, but it's bad news," he said to him from the other end.

"What do you mean by bad news?" Xavier asked him impatiently.

"Actually, actually," Ben started stuttering from the other end, something he only did in a critical situation that he didn't know how to announce to Xavier.

"What is wrong with you? What is the bad news?" Xavier thundered angrily at him.

"Actually, the two ships sank yesterday," Ben said to him from the other end while stammering.

"What!!!" Xavier exclaimed in shock.
