It had been over thirty minutes since Sarah and her uncle arrived at the party room where the event was taking place. Meanwhile, Richard had been busy presenting Sarah to his friends as the new CEO of the company. Even though Sarah wasn't happy about it, she had to play along with him by smiling in front of his friends and also exchanging contact with them, but deep down, all she could wish for was for her uncle to let her go so that she could fulfill the main purpose why she accepted to come to the party.
As her uncle was still busy discussing with his friends, she started looking around to see if she could find one way or the other to escape from her uncle.
As she was looking around, her gaze fell on Claudia who was standing all alone, while Xavier, on the other hand, was busy discussing with his friends.
Once their gazes met, Claudia glared at her angrily, but Sarah smiled at her in return, knowing the frustration she was going through.
When she was still living with Xavier, she had been in situations like this on many occasions. Xavier would bring her to an event organized by his business colleagues, and once they arrived, Xavier would leave her behind and start discussing with his friends. Even when she first met Claudia, whom he informed her was his business partner, he had left her behind to discuss with her, only if she had known that Claudia wasn't Xavier's business partner but his wife.
After looking around for some minutes, an idea finally popped into her head.
"Dad," she called out to her uncle while tapping him in order to get his attention.
"Yes, Sarah, I hope everything is okay?" Richard asked her.
"Yes, dad, I just want to inform you that I want to get a drink," she said to her, and immediately he furrowed his brows at her.
"I thought you said earlier that you don't drink at parties." Her uncle asked her, reminding her of what she had said some minutes ago when one of the waitresses had offered them some drinks.
"Well, I have changed my mind, I have finally decided to drink," Sarah said to her uncle, who nodded in agreement.
"OK, hurry up and come back. I still have many of my friends I want to present to you," Richard said to her, and immediately she scoffed inwardly while maintaining a smiling face.
Only if he knew that she was looking for a means to escape from his grip, and she wasn't comfortable with the way he was presenting her to all his friends one after the other.
"OK dad, I will be back right now," Sarah said to him before walking away. Once she left, she walked towards one of the waitresses to take a drink from her, but as she was about to take the drink her gaze and that of the waitress met, and immediately she widened her eyes in surprise.
"Lucy!!" Sarah exclaimed in surprise.
"Sarah," the waitress too muttered in surprise.
"Why are you serving as a waitress?" Sarah asked her in disbelief, but she bent her head in shame.
Actually, Lucy and Sarah had been friends right from high school. When they were about to graduate and Sarah started dating Xavier, Lucy was among the people who were against the relationship. Even though she didn't have any valid reason to oppose the relationship, she just didn't like Xavier.
When Sarah informed her that she was planning to get married to Xavier secretly, despite her uncle's disapproval, Lucy was the one who went and informed Sarah's uncle about it, and when Sarah found out about it, she ended her friendship with Lucy, and after their graduation, none of them saw each other again.
"Well, this is where I work; I was among those assigned to serve during this event," Lucy said to Sarah.
"Do you enjoy working here?" Sarah asked her.
"Well, that doesn't matter; the only thing that matters is that I have something to do, something that gives me money to take care of myself, my mom, and my little brother," Lucy said to Sarah and she nodded in reply.
"By the way, I have heard about your accomplishments for the past five years; I never imagined that I would ever get the chance to see them again," Lucy said to her.
"Neither did I; by the way, I'm sorry for not listening to you when you warned me against Xavier," Sarah said to her.
"Well, that's already in the past; it's been almost eight years since that happened," Lucy said to her.
"Yes, I'm aware of that, but if I had listened to you back then, I would have avoided many things, like putting an end to our friendship," Sarah told her.
"Well, we all make mistakes, and I don't think it's right for the CEO of Ethic Textiles to apologize to a mere employee," Lucy said to Sarah, who sighed heavily.
"Do you wish to work in Ethic textiles?" Sarah asked her.
"What?" Lucy asked her while pretending not to hear the question she had asked her.
"Yes or no?" Sarah asked her, knowing well that she had heard the question.
"Yes, of course, I had always dreamed of working for a company like Ethic Textiles.
"If that's the case, then pay me a visit tomorrow by eight AM, and while coming, bring your CV and other documents along," Sarah said to Lucy, who widened her eyes in surprise.
"Really?" Lucy asked Sarah with a surprised tone, and she nodded in reply.
"Thank you so much, Sarah; I won't disappoint you," Lucy said to her.
"Don't thank me yet; I haven't done anything for you yet," Sarah said to her.
"I have to go now; I still have to help the others out," Lucy said to Sarah before walking away.
Once she left, Sarah called one of the waitresses who was approaching her. Once she came closer, Sarah whispered something to her, and she nodded before walking away.
Sighing softly, Sarah took a sip of the drink she was holding before looking at Xavier, who was still discussing with his friends, and afterward at Claudia, who was still glaring at her angrily. With that, she waved at her, but Claudia hissed angrily from where she was standing.
As Sarah was about to sip her wine again, someone tapped her shoulder. Without hesitating, she turned around, only to meet Charles standing behind her, grinning ear to ear.
"Hey, my love, we meet again," Charles said to her while grinning ear to ear.
"And here we go again," Sarah muttered to herself inwardly.
