Brentley was just about to add Wynter on WeChat when he heard a girl's voice behind him. He froze for a moment, then quickly turned around to see who it was.
To his surprise, it was none other than his ex-girlfriend, Ophelia, with Colby, Farrah,Taylor and Chasel standing beside each other.
"Ophelia, what are you doing here?" Graham, noticing Ophelia, instantly sensed something was off and stepped forward, shouting loudly.
"Graham, what do you mean by that? This bar isn't owned by your family. If you guys can come here to have fun, why can't we?" Ophelia replied nonchalantly, pouting slightly.
"This bar may not be ours, but this booth is. We don't welcome you here, so please leave!" Graham knew Ophelia's sudden appearance had to have a purpose, so he wanted to get rid of her as quickly as possible.
"Graham, we're all classmates. Do you really have to be like this?" Colby said with a sly smile, squinting his eyes. "Yeah, why are you so eager to kick us out? Are you feeling guilty about something?" Taylor chimed in.
Wynter, Tabitha, and Bonnie exchanged confused looks at the sudden appearance of Ophelia and her friends. They still didn't know about Ophelia's past with Brentley.
"Guilty? What would I be guilty about?" Graham paused, frowning as he retorted. "Yeah, what would we be guilty about?" he echoed, equally puzzled.
Tyree chimed in as well.
Only Brentley stood still, watching Ophelia Farrah and the others. From the moment Ophelia appeared, Brentley had already guessed what she and her friends were up to.
"Are you afraid I'll expose Brentley's true colors and ruin your scam?" Ophelia sneered at Graham, then confidently walked over to Wynter in her high heels. She gave Wynter a quick check up and asked with a smile, "You're not a student at Sunshire City University, are you?"
"No, I'm not..." Wynter replied, unsure of what Ophelia was getting at.
"Thought so!" Ophelia smiled and continued, "Let me introduce myself. I'm Ophelia, Brentley's ex-girlfriend."
Hearing this, Wynter couldn't help but glance over at Brentley. She wasn't too surprised, as Graham had already mentioned that Brentley had just broken up with his girlfriend.
"What do you want?" Wynter asked Ophelia.
"I don't have any other business. I just want to tell you a few things about Brentley. I'm worried that a beautiful girl like you might get deceived by someone like him," Ophelia said slowly.
"Ophelia, you're not welcome here. Please leave!" Graham shouted, his face growing more agitated as he realized Ophelia's intentions.
"Leave? Why should I leave? I haven't finished what I have to say!" Ophelia retorted.
Ophelia let out a cold laugh, then turned her head to glance at Brentley. She spoke softly, "You girls might not be students at Sunshire City University, so you may not know Brentley very well. But I know him inside out. Brentley is notorious at our school for being dirt poor. And I mean really, really poor. He's been wearing the same clothes for over two years without changing them. He survives by picking up trash around the campus. I broke up with him because he was just too poor."
Wynter was stunned upon hearing Ophelia's words. She looked at Brentley in disbelief. Though she had noticed that Brentley's clothes were a bit shabby, she never imagined that he survived by picking up trash. If Brentley really lived like that, how could he afford to bring everyone to the bar for drinks?
Bonnie's expression was even more shocked. She felt a sense of relief that she hadn't tried to get close to Brentley. Otherwise, she might have been the one deceived.
"You might not believe what I'm saying right now, but if you don't, you can ask anyone at Sunshire City University. They all know Brentley!" Ophelia continued when she saw Wynter's silence.
"I can vouch for that!" "Yeah, me too!"
Many of the students in the bar were from Sunshire City University. When they heard Ophelia's words, they stepped forward to confirm her story. Brentley was indeed well-known at the university, and many students recognized him.
Graham and Tyree stood there, dumbfounded. They didn't know how to defend Brentley because everything Ophelia said was true. Brentley was indeed poor, and he did pick up trash to get by.
"If I'm not mistaken, Brentley hasn't told you any of this, has he? And is he still pretending to be some rich kid?" Ophelia asked, looking at Wynter.
"He's not pretending to be rich. He just wanted to buy me a drink!" Wynter replied softly, biting her red lips.
"Exactly. Brentley Carter can afford to buy you a drink, but that's only because he won a hundred thousand dollars in the lottery a few days ago!"
Ophelia sneered.
"Yeah, after winning the lottery, Brentley took that money and treated our whole class to a meal at Prosperity Hotel. It seemed like he was trying to act like a rich kid, but to us, he's just a fool. He won the lottery and spent it on a meal instead of buying himself some decent clothes. It's ridiculous!" Taylor chimed in.
Farrah, who had been standing nearby, hesitated for a moment before stepping forward and shouting, "That's right! Brentley even tried to use four thousand dollars to bribe me into getting a room with him. Of course, I refused. He should take a good look at himself. He actually thought he could get with me. What a joke!"
Brentley had remained unresponsive to everything Ophelia and Taylor had said, but when Farrah mentioned this, he couldn't help but glance at her. Even then, Brentley didn't argue back. He sat there expressionless, as if he had accepted everything they said.
Wynter's face, however, was filled with embarrassment. She had always been proud and had never accepted any boy's advances. Today, she had shown a bit of interest in Brentley, only to find out he was this kind of person. If this got out at her school, she would become the laughingstock of all the students.
After a moment of hesitation, Wynter turned to look at Brentley, her big, watery eyes glaring at him. "Brentley, is what they said true?" Brentley remained silent, not saying a word or offering any rebuttal.
"I'm talking to you! Is what they said true or not?"
Wynter looked at Brentley and continued to shout.
"Yeah, Brentley, say something!" Graham, now equally anxious, called out.
Brentley took a deep breath, then said expressionlessly, "Yes, everything they said is true!"
