Upon hearing Phoebe's scream, Brentley dashed into the hallway, noticing that Phoebe's door room was wide open. After a brief moment of hesitation, he stepped into her room. What he saw inside left him stunned.
It wasn't Kirk trying to force himself on Phoebe, but six burly men had forcibly barged into her room.
"What do you think you're doing? Why are you breaking into my house?" Phoebe's voice was surprisingly calm as she glared at the men with her big, watery eyes.
"You're Phoebe, right?" The leader of the group stepped forward, giving her a lecherous look. "Yes, I'm Phoebe," she replied, nodding slightly.
"Well, then we've got the right person!" The man smirked and started walking towards her.
Phoebe instinctively took two steps back and hid behind Kirk.
Kirk was terrified, but determined to win Phoebe's favor, he gritted his teeth and stood in front of the men. "Who are you? What do you want with Phoebe?" he demanded in a low voice.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" the leader sneered. "This has nothing to do with you. I suggest you stay out of this, or I'll break your legs. Got it?" "Y-you... you all better get out of here right now, or I'll call the police!" Kirk stammered.
Slap!
The burly man, upon hearing Kirk's words, swung his hand and slapped him hard across his face. Glaring at him, he cursed, "Who the hell do you think you are? Daring to threaten me..."
Kirk was sent flying by the slap, crashing onto the floor with a loud thud. Blood trickled slowly from his nose.
Standing by the door, Brentley watched the scene unfold. Instead of feeling sorry for Kirk, he actually found it somewhat satisfying. Though the burly men were likely not good people, in his eyes, Kirk was even worse.
"Kirk, are you okay?" Phoebe rushed to Kirk's side, her eyes welling up with tears as she saw him lying on the ground.
Hearing Phoebe's words, Brentley finally learned the young man's real name, Kirk.
"Phoebe, I'm fine..." Kirk wiped the blood from his face and struggled to stand up. He shouted at the burly man, "How dare you hit me! Do you even know who I am? You'll regret this, I swear!"
"Oh yeah? And who are you?" The burly man asked with a mocking smile. "I'm Gone with the Wind! You dare hit me? Just wait, none of you are getting out of here today!" Kirk shouted, pulling out his phone to call for backup.
The burly man paused for a moment upon hearing the name "Gone with the Wind," then turned to his lackeys and asked, "Do any of you know who 'Gone with the Wind' is?"
"Nope..." "Never heard of him..."
The lackeys shook their heads one after another.
Kirk was left speechless by their reactions. He had no reinforcements to call upon; after all, he wasn't the real "Gone with the Wind." He had only mentioned the name to try and intimidate the burly man and his crew. But who would have thought these guys had no idea who "Gone with the Wind" even was!
"Brother Beck, I remember now! A while ago, there was a big spender in Phoebe's live-stream who often clashed with Young Master Jordan. That big spender's name was 'Gone with the Wind'!"
At that moment, a young man with dyed yellow hair finally recalled the identity of "Gone with the Wind" and quickly walked over to Brother Beck, whispering in his ear.
Brother Beck couldn't help but smile faintly upon hearing his lackey's words. He then strode over to Kirk and said softly, "So, you're the one who's been going against Young Master Jordan all this time, huh?"
"Young Master Jordan?" Phoebe's eyes widened in surprise. She finally realized that this group of people had been sent by Young Master Jordan from Sunshire City.
"That's right! Now you know who I am, don't you? I suggest you all get out of here immediately, or you'll regret it!" Kirk, thinking Brother Beck would be intimidated by his supposed identity, shouted arrogantly.
"Regret it? Me?"
Brother Beck sneered, then said expressionlessly, "Young Master Jordan asked us to investigate your identity a few days ago. Who would've thought you'd deliver yourself right to our doorstep? Perfect, we'll take care of you right here and now!"
Kirk was instantly dumbfounded upon hearing Brother Beck's words.
He hadn't expected that after revealing his identity, the other party wouldn't be scared at all. Not only were they not scared, but he also realized that "Gone with the Wind" seemed to have some unresolved issues with these people.
Kirk was now filled with regret. If he had known that revealing his identity wouldn't scare off Brother Beck and his gang but instead would further provoke them, he would never have admitted to being "Gone with the Wind."
Standing at the doorway, Brentley watched Kirk with a faint smile on his face. applauded at Kirk's stupidity in silence. How could he have been foolish enough to reveal his identity as "Gone with the Wind" to Young Master Jordan who considers him his mortal enemy. It was practically a death wish.
"Guys, get him!" Brother Beck suddenly shouted.
Immediately, five young men surrounded Kirk and began kicking him in the head.
Phoebe instinctively tried to stop them, but being just a frail woman, she couldn't hold back the strong men and was pushed to the ground.
Thud! Thud! Thud! The group continued kicking Kirk's face relentlessly.
Kirk probably had never imagined that by stealing the identity of "Gone with the Wind," he wouldn't win the girl but would instead take a brutal beating meant for him.
"Stop it! Weren't you here for me? Don't hurt my friend!" Phoebe screamed at the young men surrounding Kirk.
But her pleas fell on deaf ears as they continued to beat him.
Kirk was in a miserable state. He desperately wanted to tell Brother Beck that he wasn't really "Gone with the Wind" and that he had stolen the account, but Brother Beck's men didn't give him a chance to speak. They just kept kicking his face, one blow after another.
Later, Kirk's mouth was full of blood, and he didn't even have the strength to speak. Brentley stood at the doorway of Phoebe's room, coldly watching Kirk get beaten up, showing no intention of stepping in to help either.
Phoebe, noticed him standing there, quickly shouted, "Brentley, what are you doing just standing there? Come over and help!"
"Help?"
Brentley couldn't help but let out a faint smile at Phoebe's words.
