When Brentley mentioned that he hadn't brought his bank card, Jessica and the others' faces instantly changed, and the atmosphere in the sales office became tense and strange.
"Mr. Carter, you must be joking, right? Buying a house is such a big deal, and now you're telling me you forgot your bank card? Are you kidding me?" Jessica's pretty face turned cold as she questioned him with a hint of ice in her tone. "Is buying a house really that big of a deal?" Brentley replied calmly, sitting in his chair.
To Jessica and the others, seven million dollars might seem like a huge amount, but to Brentley, it was nothing. He had never considered buying a villa to be a big deal. In fact, he hadn't even planned to look at the villas today. It was only because Caroline had called him, and since he had nothing else to do in the afternoon, he reluctantly agreed to come.
"Mr. Carter, maybe buying a villa isn't a big deal for you, but all our staff have been busy for you. We've prepared the contract, and we've updated the property information on our website. Now you're saying you won't buy it just because you didn't bring your bank card? Who's going to cover these losses?" Jessica asked softly, looking at Brentley.
At this point, her attitude towards him had changed. She started to suspect that he might be an actor hired by Caroline to mess with her. After all, if it weren't for Caroline's words, Jessica wouldn't have believed that Brentley could afford a seven-million-dollar villa.
"Did I say I wouldn't buy it?" Brentley asked, looking at Jessica.
"But you're not paying now. Where am I supposed to find you tomorrow?" Jessica replied expressionlessly.
"Isn't it just seven million? You think I'd run away over that amount?"
Brentley's mood was already sour from Phoebe's constant misunderstandings today, and Jessica's sarcastic remarks only made it worse, causing his tone to become even more sharp.
"If you're not going to run, then hand over the money right now!"
Jessica, noticing his off tone, felt more convinced of her earlier suspicions. Clearly, Brentley's uneasy demeanor was because she had exposed him, making him less composed than before.
"Jessica, how can you talk to Mr. Carter like that?"
At this moment, Caroline, who had been watching from the side, couldn't hold back any longer. She glared at Jessica and shouted.
While the others present might not fully understand his status, Caroline knew very well. After all, Brentley had once bought a villa at her real estate office without batting an eye and gifted it to Vienna. Caroline was the only one who believed that Brentley genuinely didn't bring his bank card today and would pay tomorrow.
"Caroline, did you bring this guy here just to mess with us? He didn't even ask about the price when he came in, just said he wanted to buy a villa. Now that the contract is ready, he tells us he didn't bring his bank card. Does he think we're idiots?"
Jessica, dropped all pretense and shouted at Caroline.
"Mr. Carter said he would buy the villa, so he will. Even if he didn't bring his bank card today, he can pay the deposit now and settle the rest tomorrow," Caroline replied coldly.
"Fine, since you say so, I'll trust him this once. Let him pay the deposit!"
Jessica seemed convinced that Brentley was just a conman Caroline had brought along. She didn't believe for a second that he could actually pay the deposit.
"How much is the deposit?" Caroline asked Jessica.
"Two hundred thousand dollars will do!"
Jessica crossed her arms and replied coldly, "Mr. Carter, how about you pay the deposit first, and then we can come back tomorrow to settle the remaining balance?" Caroline quickly whispered to Brentley.
"I don't have the two hundred thousand right now..." Brentley responded calmly while sitting in his chair.
Earlier that day, Brentley had changed his pants, leaving both of his bank cards in the other pants. At this moment, he didn't have a single penny on him.
Caroline was stunned by Brentley's words, her face showing a mix of surprise and helplessness. She hadn't expected that the same Brentley, who had been throwing money around at her sales office, couldn't even come up with a two hundred thousand deposit now.
If Brentley had simply forgotten his bank cards and couldn't immediately pay the seven million, people might have understood. After all, seven million is a significant amount, not something you can just pull out of your pocket. But for a wealthy heir to not even have two hundred thousand on hand was quite unbelievable.
"Caroline, where did you find this so-called rich kid? He can't even come up with two hundred thousand. Are you sure he isn't just scamming you?" Jessica sneered at Caroline after hearing Brentley's words.
"Jessica, Mr. Carter just forgot his bank cards today. I stake my reputation on it; he'll definitely bring the money tomorrow. There's no need for you to be so aggressive!" Caroline replied expressionlessly, then whispered to Brentley, "Mr. Carter, let's go. I'll bring you back tomorrow to make the payment."
"Alright," Brentley nodded lightly, then stood up to leave with Caroline.
"Caroline, stop right there!" Jessica shouted, blocking their path. She glared at Caroline as she said loudly, "You brought this broke guy here and made fools of everyone in our sales office. Now you think you can just walk away? Don't you owe us an explanation?"
"Yes, we demand an explanation!" The other employees in the sales office also stood up and shouted loudly. "Jessica, I advise you not to push things too far!" Caroline bit her red lips and replied back at Jessica in a low voice.
"Caroline, who exactly is pushing things too far here? You brought this trash picker to mock our entire sales office. What exactly are you trying to do?" Jessica retorted coldly, showing no fear of Caroline.
"Mock you all?" Caroline looked at Jessica with a helpless smile and then said softly, "Alright, if you think I'm mocking you, how about this: If Mr. Carter doesn't come tomorrow to pay the money, I'll resign and leave this company. How about that?"
"Caroline, are you serious about this?" A peculiar look flashed in Jessica's eyes. "Of course, with so many people listening, I'm obviously serious!" Caroline replied coldly. She still believed that Brentley definitely had the means to buy the villa.
"Fine, then I'll let you two leave for today!" Jessica agreed happily.
She thought that since Caroline was willing to stake her job on it, maybe Brentley really did have the money to buy the villa. And even if Brentley didn't have the money, Jessica could still use this opportunity to get rid of her arch-nemesis Caroline from the company. So, whether Brentley came to pay or not, she wouldn't lose anything, making her very willing to agree.
"Mr. Carter, let's go!" Caroline said softly to him after seeing Jessica agree.
"Mm-hmm!" Brentley nodded slightly, then started walking briskly towards the exit of the sales office.
"Brentley Carter?" Just then, a beautiful woman in a black dress walked into the sales office. The moment she saw Brentley, she instinctively called out his name.
