Chapter 4258: Laws of Heaven and Earth
Long Hui's face stiffened. "Cousin, you are truly overthinking. How could our Long clan do such a thing?"
"That's not necessarily true," Qiao Mu said with a cold expression. "Haven't you done enough backstabbing and tricking already?"
Long Hui suppressed his anger, took a breath, and cupped his hands to Qiao Mu. "It was my fault just now. I shouldn't have used that corpse puppet to joke with you. I promise, I will never do so again."
Qiao Mu tilted her small head, continuing to prop up her chin and watch the river.
Long Hui felt a bit uneasy, thinking that his cousin, after all, held a grudge against him and was unwilling to let anyone help.
Mu Xingchen, however, lifted his leg and walked out. "What are you still standing here for? Aren't you coming?"
Long Hui was overjoyed and quickly followed. Looking back, he saw that the Feng Changqing brothers had indeed followed as well, and he couldn't help but feel a slight sense of relief.
Long Hui couldn't discern the cultivation levels of these two Feng clan members and Crown Prince Mo, but he always felt that their realms were certainly above his.
Qiao Mu watched the few of them leave, frowning slightly. "Can Big Brother and the others handle it?"
"A few mutated saber-toothed fish? What's there to handle?" Mo Lian stepped in front of his wife. "If so many people from the Feng clan can't even handle these small saber-toothed fish, then let's just throw them all away. What's the point of bringing them? They're cumbersome and useless, and they waste food."
Qiao Mu blinked, then gently patted Crown Prince Mo's head. "You're always thinking about sending the Feng clan members away."
"More people don't mean more effectiveness," Mo Lian pouted, an expression of disdain on his face.
Before long, the two heard intense thudding sounds from beneath the cabin. Looking out the window, they could see water splashing wildly on both sides.
Suddenly, a saber-toothed fish leaped up, pressing against Qiao Mu's window, as if trying to burst in and bite her arm.
Mo Lian didn't even raise an eye. With a flick of his finger, a cluster of black fire silently burned its way over, instantly incinerating the saber-toothed fish into ash.
"The fish population has mutated," Qiao Mu said with some concern. "I wonder how many things in this river have mutated."
What Crown Prince Mo had said earlier was entirely correct; compared to land, the mutation situation in these rivers and seas seemed even worse.
"Don't worry, Qiaoqiao, it's just the survival of the fittest," Mo Lian said, reaching out to embrace his wife's shoulder, comforting her softly. "Since there are mutated fish, according to the Laws of Heaven and Earth, naturally stronger species will emerge, capable of combating these mutated fish populations."
"The Heavenly Destiny's medicines transform some people into corpse puppets, but others gain special abilities."
"The same logic applies to rivers, lakes, and oceans."
"All things are bound to follow the laws. You don't need to worry so much." He was just worried that his wife would worry about everything, which was quite distressing.
Qiao Mu looked up at him, nodded with a chuckle. "I'm not worrying too much, and I can't manage too many things either."
"Just uphold your true self and do your best; don't force everything."
"The sound seems to have lessened. Let's go out and see." Mo Lian took her small hand, and the two left the cabin together.
They saw the dim red sky reflected in the river, showing a faint crimson hue.
The zither-playing corpse puppet was nowhere to be seen, and a dozen or so Long clan members were tidying up the chaotic deck.
Several sailors hurried up, shouting in alarm to Long Hui, "Young Master, the bottom cabin is leaking!"
