Chapter 5

The professor in black led us into the main building. The halls were spotless. Marble floors that were speckled with gold trailed wherever the professor was leading us.

"This is the main floor and faculty floor. No classes take place here, and no game rooms exist on this floor. If you want to play another person, you'll have to play in one of the game rooms, your dorm or during class. And before I forget, Headmaster Hail isn't in today. He's judging a tournament in the next town over."

He led us past several rooms, listing off whose office they were. There were several vending machines along the way, filled to the brim with KING'S RULE playing card packs or even single cards.

Finally, he led us to the sorting room. It was a small room that we had to crowd around the door to see inside. Each of us shoved and elbowed our way to the front to peer inside only to get shoved to the back when we got to see.

In the room, there was a single chair. A desk with a tablet sat in front of it. Whatever was on its screen was too hard to see from the doorway.

"Each and every one of you will take a seat at the sorting tablet. If you look to the left of it, there is a sensor pad where you will put all the decks you brought with you. The school's system will scan those cards and calculate your potential as well as any tournament scores you have earned. This isn't a test to see how good you are, but a test to examine your playstyle so we can put you in classes that best suit you. Think of it as the sorting hat in that one book series."

The talkative kid spoke up. "How many dorms are there? And what are they?"

The professor nodded. "That's a good question to ask. Not many new students ask that before the sorting test."

"Do I get something for that?"

The professor snorted. "Sure. Before you go to your dorm, I'll give you a booster pack."

We all exchanged looks. Was it this easy to get new cards?

"Speaking of packs, I'm sure many of you saw the vending machines all around the school. There are fifty of them on campus. Depending where they are located, they dispense certain level cards. The harder it is to access a vending machine, the better and rarer the cards it gives out. I'm only bringing this up because when you finish getting sorted, each of you can purchase one free item from any vending machine on campus. There are ten on this floor, two in each dorm, six on each floor in the main building, fourteen hidden around campus and one in each office and classroom."

Even though he quickly skimmed over the hidden vending machines, he could tell it was on all of our minds. If what he said about vending machines dispensing better cards was true, then these hidden machines dispersed pretty good cards.

"Now, about the five dorms. They are based on the five class types of summons. And those are:

The Wizard class, that rewards you for casting spells

The Sorcerer class, that cares about the BOOST ability.

Saint class summons are known for their high stats and ability to equip extra items.

The Exorcist class, the peskiest class that doesn't let others play or use items and spells.

And lastly, the Elementalist class, which converts pips into temporary POWER.

It's a pretty simple setup, and is efficient since most players, as you will soon learn, usually stick to one of these archetypes."
