Hermione quietly finished her breakfast, still sulking.
The little witch wiped her mouth, feeling the warm, teasing gaze beside her. Without turning her head, she shifted her body away, letting out a cold snort. The meaning was clear:
Just because I ate your breakfast doesn't mean I've forgiven you.
Kai Adler shrugged, gathering the dishes.
Mr. Weasley was explaining the day's plan: their eldest son, Bill, would be leading them to explore one of the last undiscovered pyramid ruins.
Of course, these ruins were far from the typical tourist destinations.
As a Curse-Breaker for Gringotts Berlin Division, Bill's job was to delve into dangerous magical ruins, disable ancient curses or traps, and recover valuable artifacts for the Goblins.
Kai found this profession intriguing. He remembered the Old Man once mentioning that countless ruins from forgotten magical civilizations still littered the world, some from recent centuries, others dating back to ancient times.
Many of those ruins were known to conceal remnants of powerful Black Magic—the kind Kai favored most. In fact, his favorite spell, the Fiendfyre Curse, had originated from ancient magical texts.
One of Kai's dreams after finishing school was to travel the world with Hermione, hunting down forgotten ruins and uncovering the secrets buried within.
There was only one problem: every field had its specialists.
Kai wasn't just unskilled at curse-breaking—he was completely clueless. Originally, he had intended to search the Hogwarts library for information on the subject, but now that Bill was here, maybe he could get some direct insight.
Right on cue, the door opened, and Mrs. Weasley spotted her eldest son first.
"Bill! What took you so long? We've all finished breakfast."
Bill Weasley entered with his signature confidence: tall, broad-shouldered, his long red hair tied back, a fang earring glinting in the morning light. Unlike the rest of his family, his appearance carried an air of rugged charm.
"I'm not hungry, Mum." He lifted a hand casually.
But Mr. Weasley immediately noticed the tired lines on his face. "You alright, son?"
"Yeah… but I'm afraid today's little adventure might be canceled."
Bill slumped into a chair, reaching for the floating teacup and taking a large gulp.
"Whoa… this tea's fantastic."
"Appreciate the compliment, Senior Bill," Kai chimed in with a polite smile.
Bill's sharp blue eyes flicked to Kai, lingering briefly on his striking, mixed German-Asian features. Recognition sparked across his face.
"You must be Kai Adler. Heard a lot about you—thanks for helping Ginny last year."
The two shook hands across the table firmly.
"Introductions can wait," Ron interrupted, clearly impatient. "What do you mean our tour's canceled?"
Bill leaned back, his expression darkening. "There was… an incident in Berlin last night. A serious one. High-profile deaths in a private mansion—all magical, no Muggles involved."
The entire Weasley family fell silent, their attention locked on Bill. Even Hermione, ears perked up, fought the urge to glance at Kai. Her instincts screamed that this somehow involved the infuriating boy beside her.
Bill sipped more tea, then continued.
"The Ministry's been monitoring that mansion for a while. A known group of Haunters were living there—supernatural beings. Their leader? A Vampire named Dio."
The room tensed at the name.
Bill's tone soured slightly. "Normally, the Ministry wouldn't intervene, not directly. The German Ministry avoids risking exposure to the Muggle world, even when Haunters attack Muggles. All they do is tip off Muggle authorities—but what can Muggle police do against Vampires and creatures like that?"
Fred and George, half-paying attention while goofing around, exchanged a look. Fred raised an eyebrow.
"Then why'd the Ministry step in this time? A Wizard get involved?"
Under the table, Hermione's hand clenched into a fist.
Bill hesitated. "Sort of. But not exactly."
"The only reason the Ministry intervened was because a magical alarm triggered—high-level detection spells were set off in the area. But after investigating all night, we couldn't find traces of spellcasting. Dio's entire group… wiped out."
Hermione exhaled, relieved despite herself.
But—Vampires?
Her eyes narrowed slightly. Didn't someone mention knowing a very attractive female Vampire recently? Someone who'd been a little too complimentary?
Kai felt a shiver crawl down his spine.
Ron, oblivious as ever, frowned. "Firearms? What's that?"
Bill rubbed his temple. "Imagine Muggle-made Black Magic. Weapons that fire metal projectiles at high speed."
Ron's eyes lit up. "Sounds wicked—"
"They're lethal, Ron. To both Muggles and Wizards," Bill snapped, cutting off his brother's excitement.
"What were the Vampires even doing there?" Ginny asked, curiosity piqued.
Bill shrugged. "Same thing they always do—hiding from Muggles. But this group crossed a line, attacking humans recklessly. Likely, their own kind purged them to avoid drawing more attention. It's not uncommon."
Kai nodded inwardly. Credit where it was due—the Ministry's deduction wasn't bad.
The only thing they missed was Dio himself wasn't an ordinary Vampire. His death last night wasn't simple—if it hadn't been Kai Adler standing in that mansion, if it had been the real Oka…
Selene's group would've been slaughtered.
The ability to stop time… far too overpowered.
Ron, fidgeting in his seat, finally burst out: "Okay, okay—but what does this have to do with our trip?"
Bill's eyes darkened. "Everything."
"The Ministry sent us in to search for magical traces. While we didn't find spellcasting evidence, other detection spells picked up residual magical signatures. A Wizard was there."
Hermione's heart skipped a beat.
The next second, a warm hand pressed lightly to her shoulder. She slapped it away instantly, glaring at Kai, but despite herself… her heartbeat steadied.
Bill continued, his tone low.
"A few days ago, a known Black Wizard attacked a Muggle here in Berlin and evaded capture."
"After investigating, we discovered this Wizard's family has strong ties to a certain Vampire clan."
"The Ministry believes the Black Wizard involved in last night's incident is the same one, still at large, and likely dangerous."
"For public safety, they've shut down all touring programs until the individual is caught."
Ron frowned. "Couldn't he just… go home? Back to his family?"
Bill's expression tightened.
"He can't go back." His voice dropped to a near whisper.
"The Wizard's name… is Oka Ebo. His entire family—the Ebo family—was annihilated the night before last."
The room fell silent. Even Hermione's eyes widened in shock.
Bill's gaze darkened, the final words heavy with tension.
"And according to whispers in the underground… the one who wiped them out—was Grindelwald."
