Chapter 18: Exchanging Pill

"I've seen the effects of the Gift firsthand. Also, can I use my Honey points to exchange for these pills?" After vaguely answering Miya's questions about the Gift, Kai asked if he could exchange Honey points for the pills.

All his savings were only enough to buy around four or five Lesser Vitality Pills, and he couldn't even afford a single Vitality Pill. So, he was thinking of using his Honey points instead. He didn't need too many—just six or seven Vitality Pills would be enough.

"You can certainly do that. Sixteen Honey points for a Lesser Vitality Pill and two hundred Honey points for a Vitality Pill," Miya replied. Since Kai wasn't willing to talk much about the Gift, she didn't press further and honestly shared the exchange rate.

In terms of hard currency used in the Ancient World, one Honey point roughly equaled fifty copper coins.

However, the value of Honey points was much higher when exchanging for items provided by the Shop for its employees.

For example, a Knowledge Sea was priced at one hundred thousand Honey points. In the Ancient World, the same item was worth one hundred thousand gold coins.

This effectively made one Honey point equal to one gold coin.

The same applied to the price of the broken Knowledge Sea—outside the Honey Pill Shop, it was priced at 5,000 gold coins.

"Okay, exchange for four Vitality Pills." Kai decisively bought four Vitality Pills.

Although Honey points were valuable, the thing Kai valued most was his freedom. So, he bought all the pills he could afford with the Honey points he currently had.

"Exchange four Vitality Pills?" Miya asked, confirming she had heard correctly.

If even a Human had found a Gift that could replace Soul power in Alchemy, he surely wouldn't be foolish enough to waste such precious Honey points on pills—right?

"Yes. As for the remaining ninety-three Honey points, exchange them for Lesser Vitality Pills." At first, Kai had considered saving some Honey points for later. However, the price of the pills was higher than he expected. After much thought, he decided to exchange all his Honey points for pills.

"If you say so." Miya wanted to say a few words to make the Human understand the true value of Honey points, but seeing the determination in his eyes, she decided against it.

She felt there was something odd about the Human named Kai. First, he had been hellbent on buying the broken Knowledge Sea and using it as his own. Now, he was placing all his hopes on some Gift without even knowing its full effects.

For the first time, Miya felt that her cousin's cautious approach wasn't half bad.

"Here, you now have 13 Honey points left." Scanning the Human's employee card, Miya deducted the points for 5 Lesser Vitality Pills and 4 Vitality Pills. After that, she handed the card and pills back to Kai.

"Thanks!" Taking the card and pills from Miya, Kai placed them inside his storage bag and left the shop.

After leaving, he headed toward the Kato Bakery under the soaring heat. Along the way, Kai started craving some ice cream. Unfortunately, he hadn't heard of anyone making or selling it.

"Uncle, do you have any ideas on how to make ice cream?" Reaching the Kato Bakery, Kai ordered his usual muffins and asked Alex's father, Mathew.

"Ice cream?" Mathew scratched his head. "I tried making it once, but the price of milk is too high—7 silver coins for one liter. So, I gave up on the idea."

Thinking about the prices set by the Fairies, Mathew always felt they were taking advantage of people like him.

In this world, there weren't any farmers raising animals or growing food for others. Because of that, people were forced to buy goods at ridiculously high prices from the Fairies.

"That much?" Kai was surprised when he heard the price of milk. If milk was that expensive, then wouldn't a single ice cream cost more than a silver coin?

Kai wasn't willing to spend so much money on a single ice cream, no matter how badly he was craving it.

"Dad, I bought everything." As Kai was frowning over the price of milk, Alex returned, carrying a lot of bags.

"Good, put them in the back." Seeing his son return, Mathew smiled and asked him to place the items in the bakery kitchen.

"Kai, you're here too. Let me get these to the back." Greeting Kai, Alex moved everything to the kitchen and handed the receipt to his father.

"The price of everything else was the same, but they increased the price of eggs." Handing over the receipt, Alex cursed those black-hearted Fairies in his heart.

"It doesn't matter." Glancing at the new price of eggs, Mathew simply put the receipt away.

"Kai, did you and Luca meet up yesterday?" Alex asked, noticing how depressed and helpless Kai had seemed the past few days. He had known Kai for more than two months now, and as a friend, he felt obligated to help.

"We met up yesterday." Kai paid for the muffins and began munching on them.

"Is the D-rank Gift [Ki Control] any help?" Seeing Kai drown himself in muffins, Alex asked for details.

"Any help? The [Ki Control] is exactly what I was looking for. It meets all the criteria for using Herb Weaving. Now I just need to increase my Ki reserve and undergo my Third Heavenly Trial as soon as possible, and then I won't have to worry about becoming a slave," Kai said with a mouthful of muffins.

"That's good. So, are you planning on going hunting? I know a few good teams. I can introduce you to some," Alex offered, hoping to help Kai find a solid hunting team. After all, everyone knows hunting monsters is the fastest way to increase Ki.

"Nah, I'm good. I just emptied my Honey points and bought these pills. I'm planning on working a few extra hours to earn more Honey points and then exchange them for more pills." Kai fished out the Lesser Vitality and Vitality pills from his storage bag and showed them to Alex.

"What's Honey points?… If I'm not wrong, Vitality Pills cost around 10 gold coins, and Lesser Vitality Pills aren't cheap either. Since when did you have so much money?" Looking at the pills, Alex was surprised. He had known Kai for two months now and had never heard of him having so much money.

In fact, Kai often complained about not having enough money to hire an assistant.
