Chapter 19: Soul Revival Pill

"Money? I didn't buy them with coins. I used the Honey points I accumulated since I started working. For every extra task I do, I get Honey points, which I can use to exchange for anything from the shop," Kai explained, clarifying that he hadn't bought the pills with money.

"Oh, that's a perfect job. You get paid, and on top of that, for the extra work you do, you get shop credit. What more could you ask for?" Alex's father, Mathew, commented upon hearing the conversation between his son and Kai.

"If you put it that way, it is indeed a good job. However, the sword of becoming a slave will always be hanging over your head." Kai felt that Mathew's words were true. The pay was good, and he only had to work for a few hours. If it weren't for the slave clause in the contract, it would indeed be a perfect job.

"Becoming a slave? Why?" Mathew asked, surprised by Kai's remark.

"In the contract I signed, it says that if I'm unable to complete the daily tasks assigned to me by the shop for ten consecutive days, then I will be taken by the shop owner as her slave." Finishing the muffins, Kai told Mathew the backstory of the contract he had signed with the Honey Pill shop.

"That's a little…" As Mathew was about to speak, the door of the bakery opened, and a customer walked in. He turned his attention to the new arrival.

"Enough about me. How's your preparation for the Third Heavenly Trial?" Kai shifted the topic and asked about Alex's Third Heavenly Trial.

"My Ki reserve has already crossed the thousand mark. Now I'm just shortlisting the Gift I want to choose." Alex was struggling to decide on a Gift; he still wasn't sure whether to choose a sword-related Gift or a defensive one.

"That's good." Kai was genuinely happy for Alex. After all, having an additional Gift increased one's chances of survival when encountering powerful monsters.

"Kai, I've been meaning to ask you something. Have you heard of the Soul Revival Pill?" Amidst their conversation, Alex brought up the Soul Revival Pill.

According to the Fairy doctor taking care of his mother, only the Soul Revival Pill could help her recover from her vegetative state.

However, until now, he hadn't come across any news regarding the Soul Revival Pill.

Since Kai was an Alchemist, he wanted to know if he had heard about it.

"Soul Revival Pill? I think I read about it somewhere… Don't Fairies use this pill to recover from soul injuries?"

As Alex asked about the Soul Revival Pill, Kai thought for a moment and remembered reading about it.

Since Fairies use Soul power for nearly every walk of life—including battles—they often suffer from Soul injuries. The Soul Revival Pill is a very common Grade 4 pill that all Fairies use to recover from such injuries.

"You've heard about it?" Hearing that Kai knew about the Soul Revival Pill, Alex's eyes lit up.

Although it was the Fairy doctor who told him about the Soul Revival Pill, the doctor wasn't willing to disclose any information about it.

In the past, his father had searched aimlessly for the Soul Revival Pill without knowing its characteristics or description—only the claim that it could help patients recover from a vegetative state.

Ever since his father had that accident, Alex had taken on that mantle and was doing his best to find the Soul Revival Pill.

"No, I just read about it in a book. It's a common Grade 4 pill that almost all Fairies use. What's so exciting about it?" Seeing Alex's odd behavior, Kai couldn't help but ask. In their two months of friendship, he had never seen Alex look so happy.

"You don't know this, but the Fairy doctor taking care of my mother told us that as long as we find the Soul Revival Pill, he can definitely help her recover in less than ten days."

The words of the grumpy old Fairy echoed in his ears as Alex told Kai his reason for looking for the Soul Revival Pill.

"What? Why didn't you say so before?" Knowing that the Soul Revival Pill could help Alex's mother recover from a vegetative state, Kai was surprised. He had never known that the pill had such a function.

"Do you know how much it costs?" Alex asked about the price of the pill. Although Kai made it sound like it was common, Alex knew that no Grade 4 pill was cheap.

"I don't know about the price. However, if you want, we can head back to the shop and ask." Although Kai had read about the Soul Revival Pill, he wasn't aware of its price.

"Then let's go!" Seeing a ray of light at the end of an endless tunnel of darkness, Alex couldn't contain himself and dragged Kai out of the bakery.

"Alex, where are you——" Seeing Alex leave with Kai, Mathew tried to stop him to get help around the bakery. However, it was too late. Both of them had already left.

Dragged by Alex the whole way, the two of them soon arrived at the Honey Pill shop.

"Kai, did you forget something?" Seeing the human return, Miya asked.

"I didn't forget anything. I want to buy a Soul Revival Pill."

At first, Kai wanted to explain the reason he was looking for the Soul Revival Pill, but he felt it was unnecessary and directly asked.

"Soul Revival Pill? Why do you want to buy it?"

When the Human asked for the Soul Revival Pill, Miya felt something was off. The Soul Revival Pill wasn't something someone following the Path of Ki would need.

Did the Human get possessed? she wondered.

"My friend needs it."

Again, not going into detail, Kai kept his answer short.

Hearing the Human's reply, the doubt in Miya's heart solidified.

"Wait here. I'll get it."

Saying so, Miya flew upstairs.

"It's so simple."

Alex, who had been quietly standing behind Kai, was amazed. He never imagined that finding the Soul Revival Pill would be this easy. In his wildest hopes, he had only dreamed of finding it in a Silver chest.

However, Kai felt something was off. The Soul Revival Pill wasn't some Grade 1 or 2 pill that could be bought just by asking. It was a genuine Grade 4 pill.

At the very least, Miya should have asked more questions than just why he needed it.
