The clean up crew I’d brought with us were almost finished destroying all evidence of our being anywhere near the resident of the former army general who thought he could shake more money out of Volkov Industries than he was worth.
Sometimes it was simpler and better to just take out the trash.
Adrik and Marat were eager to return home, and so was I. We just had to wait for the new party in charge to reopen the mines before we left.
Should be any minute now.
The flight home would take eleven hours, and I felt tired and irritable.
“You ready to leave?” Adrik asked, walking towards me with his Ruger still in his hand.
I nodded. Fuck yes, I was ready to leave. Ready to get back to my Little Red.
Marat followed behind his brother, his cell phone pressed against his ear. The smile on his face let me know he was talking to Destiny.

I dialed the number for my wife eager to hear her voice.
“Hello, this is Meredith.”
“Hey,” I said when she answered.
