Nightfire in the Holdfast

Night shrouded Ironborn's southern wall. Riku led a covert team:

Team Ember (24 flame-spears + Rootbound guides)

Team Root (12 Rootbinders)

Team Spear (44 spearmen, including squad #17)

They crept across the night-soaked moat; Rootbinders positioned beneath walls, preparing root-mound collapse. Ember-spears laid timed fire charges.

At minute 47, Riku tightened his grip after checking his obsidian dagger—they were ready.

At midnight, three wall supports crumbled separately. The wall thundered. Surprise and smoke erupted.

Ember-spears ignited root-net barriers, allowing Spearmen to crash through the eastern breach. Ashmaw bounded in with them.

Inside the courtyard, Riku found Lord Varyen Ironsoul flanked by elite Ironborn steel-soldiers in barksteel armor.

They attacked.

Riku faced Varyen near the central brazier. Metal screeched on barksteel. Emberfront laggard shields went up. Spears lined up behind Riku. Fire-spears ignited walls above them.

Varyen fought fiercely—each swing sparking cracks in Riku's shield. But Riku's training, and the folded enhancement of his blade (triggered earlier), let him outmaneuver her.

After seven tense exchanges, his dagger rose past her guard and struck true—piercing through chest armor. She crumpled.

With Varyen dead, Ironborn morale collapsed.

Spearmen rallied under Riku's banner. Ember-spears lit perimeter fires. Rootbinders collapsed inner tunnels to trap opposing combatants or funnel them into open arches.

Within an hour, 60 Ironborn soldiers lay dead, 42 surrendered, and 30 fled into tunnels.

Riku ordered immediate field triage and root burial rites for the fallen.

By dawn, the holdfast was secure.

Riku convened the surviving Ironborn in the courtyard. The captured soldiers kneeled, stripped arms, laid shields at Riku's feet. Among them, Varyen's second-in-command — a man named Karun Graymantle — stepped forward.

Karun pledged: "Our tribe follows your blade and your root."

Riku accepted: "You'll join our cause or leave in peace."

They bowed en masse — iron dropped, bark-root bound.

Later that morning, Riku inspected holding pens and noticed Ironborn-forged steel-core barricades shimmering differently—tougher, more resistant.

[Enhancement Event – Quality Variant]

Target: The Holdfast Main Gate

Condition: Direct control asserted over Ironborn-built structure

→ Gate sturdiness doubled

→ Lock mechanisms sharpened

→ Resilience to siege damage increased

(Riku sees the change; no one else notices.)

He grinned, running his hand along the reinforced gate.

Over the next two days, Rootbinders repurposed Ironborn halls into dual-level council and storage chambers. Emberfront mixed with Ironborn infantry under unified training routines. Karun led relief patrols into the reclaimed perimeter.

Riku oversaw the transformation: walls grafted with living root arches, watchtowers emblazoned with a combined crest, and banners of Lorian root-woven quadrants flying above merged headquarters.

That night, Riku checked the system.

Next Blood Moon: 2 Days, 05 Hours

He touched the central council Stone, now etched with new quadrant marks, and felt calm.

Their expanded tribe stood strong and ready.
