7:05 PM – The Silence That Followed

POV: Elle

There was no cheering. No relief. No triumph.

Only silence.

The Herald's monstrous form lay broken, its chest slowly ceasing the unnatural glow of the glyph-blood that seeped beneath it. Like a dying ember, the liquid green light faded, vanishing into the dirt and dust.

Kael knelt motionless beside the beast's corpse, his twin daggers — the Obsidian Dagger and the Dagger of Humility — still embedded deep in the creature's flesh. His usual fierce gaze was absent, replaced by a hollow weariness.

He hadn't moved in minutes.

Elle approached cautiously, stepping over shattered stone and twisted roots that poked from the ground like broken bones. The eerie stillness was oppressive. Even the Eye carved across the sky — the silent sentinel that had watched over them all battle long — had finally closed.

Kael spoke softly, as if sharing a secret only he could hear.

"He smiled when he died."

Elle stopped in her tracks, heart tightening.

"Armin?"

Kael slowly turned his head. The weight of loss had aged him beyond his years; his face was pale and tight, carved by the gravity of what had transpired.

"He looked at me before the light left his eyes," Kael murmured. "He smiled. Like it was… okay. Like it was worth it."

Elle knelt beside him, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. "It was."

But Kael's silence said more than words could.

7:09 PM – The Toll

POV: Dain

In the distance, Dain bent low, helping medics and survivors dig shallow trenches. The bodies were too many.

Monsters and Awakened alike lay side by side — some with proud expressions, as if still in defiance, others twisted in pain or frozen in their last moments.

The glyphs that had burned bright on their arms, their skin, were dim or vanished. Some of the creatures had died screaming, others were still twitching, their bodies corroded by the strange energies that powered their unnatural forms.

Dain's hands were stained with dirt and blood, his breaths ragged. He wiped sweat from his brow and glanced toward Kael, who still knelt amid the wreckage, alone.

"You gave us the win," Dain whispered to no one. "But what did it cost you?"

7:12 PM – The Green Flame's Afterglow

POV: Kael

Kael's vision blurred, the weight of grief and exhaustion anchoring him to the ground.

His body still radiated a faint green light — the remnant glow of Divine Echo's power that had surged through him during the battle. That surge had removed every limit, every cooldown from their abilities. For a brief moment, they had been unstoppable.

Yet, it hadn't saved Armin.

Kael clenched his fists tightly, feeling the heat pulsing through the Dagger of Humility — its blade capable of scorching steel — while the Obsidian Dagger seemed almost to drink in the darkness around them.

He stared out at the ruined battlefield: shattered walls, smoldering embers, and the fallen — his friends, his family.

The price had been too high.

7:15 PM – Whispers Among Survivors

POV: Elle

From the edges of the field, the murmurs began.

"He glowed green," a woman gasped, clutching her wounded arm.

"Like some kind of angel… or demon," a soldier muttered, watching Kael's faint aura.

"The cooldowns disappeared," a medic said. "Their powers ran wild. Never seen anything like it."

Elle's grip tightened on her spear. The victory had come at a cost — and Kael was no longer just a warrior. He was becoming a symbol — one that drew both hope and fear.

7:18 PM – The Mimic's Warning

POV: Kael's Mimic

A shadow flickered beside Kael — his mimic, no longer just an echo, but a reflection of his darker thoughts.

"They came for you, Kael," the mimic said, voice low and sharp. "Not for the Safe Zone. Not for your friends. For you."

Kael's eyes hardened.

"You lit the beacon. Now every monster with power knows your name."

Kael's voice was steady, but fierce. "Then I have no choice."

The mimic's smile flickered softer.

"To save them, you must leave. Before more fall."

7:22 PM – The Weight of Goodbye

POV: Kael

Kael rose slowly, every muscle aching. He looked at Elle and Dain — the only family left standing.

Elle's voice broke the heavy silence. "You don't have to carry this alone."

Dain nodded in agreement. "We'll fight with you. Wherever you go."

Kael shook his head. "If I stay, they'll come for all of us."

His eyes drifted down to Armin's severed head lying among the grass. The lifeless, pale eyes and the soft smile — a brother lost.

"I'm sorry," Kael whispered.

7:25 PM – The First Crack

POV: Observer

From beyond the shattered walls of the Safe Zone, a ripple of energy pulsed — dark and hungry.

The dormant Gate, a tear in reality, shimmered open, swirling with ancient light and shadow.

The air hummed with a power as old as time itself.

Kael's war was far from over.
