"You came quite early."
Kaiser spoke as the night's cold wind brushed against his face. His face was illuminated by the moonlight like a promising knight.
However, to Hazel, that handsome face was not something she could adore—instead, it was something she absolutely hated.
Unlike before, Hazel had regained a bit of her composure and could manage to meet his eyes. Though the faint twitch of her fingers, the palpitation of her heart and the faint ripple in her eyes all betrayed a single thing.
'One more desperate attack.'
Earlier, he had asked Kuramoto to message her to meet him at the rooftop of the school by nine o'clock. She had complied and was even ten minutes early.
"So are you."
Kaiser's eyes twitched at the audacity to give such a snarky remark but he decided to keep quiet about the matter.
"So, you want to blackmail me or what?" She asked.
"Blackmail you?" Kaiser mused as he walked towards an inconspicuous part of the wall, then kicked it. "Aren't you the one who stabbed me?"
A crunchy sound was made as a mini camera broke under his shoes.
"Y'know, Kuramoto actually begged me to forgive you but maybe that was too naive of me." He said, his tone slow and deliberate, then turned to look at Hazel who was wide-eyed from shock.
With slow, deliberate steps, he walked towards her while she moved backwards until her back hit the wall.
Towering above her and gazing down at her coldly, he noticed how her expression morphed into feigned fear and desperation. He soon distanced himself from her and waved her phone which was recording their conversation.
"H-how?!"
Instantly, her eyes narrowed into slits. She didn't expect him to discover her phone recording. Murderous intent flickered in her eyes as she lunged at him, a broadsword weaving into her hands.
Kaiser smirked.
Pah!
Slapping the sword to the side, he flicked her forehead with little strength yet she let out a startled yelp.
"Don't joke with me!"
She hastily leaned back, then executed a series of calculated strikes which he dodged with minimal effort—even yawning occasionally.
"Aaarggghhh!!!"
Yelling, her sword was ignited with flames as she slashed down at him.
Peng~!
Unfortunately, Kaiser easily stopped her attack with a pinch of his fingers and snuffed out the flames.
"Are you stupid? Using flames will only attract the attention of others." He scolded like an elder brother.
And this further infuriated Hazel. Why was he acting like he was doing something trivial. Threatening a General's daughter?! Automatic death if word of it got out.
However, she knew—for now, word wouldn't get out.
"Stay b-back!"
She exclaimed as he stepped closer, forcing her to move backwards.
"Tell me, Hazel, what would your father think if he saw you now?"
His lips curled, reminiscent of the smile of a cunning devil.
Instantly, her eyes widened in primal fear.
She had almost given up—almost, though. And that, it wasn't enough.
Forcing her to look at him in the eyes, he growled "What do you think the general would do? Tell me!"
A soft whimper left her throat as her body shook.
'What? Already?'
Kaiser blinked in amazement when he realized how quickly Hazel had broken.
'It seems I overestimated the resilience of humans. Truly fickle.'
"It's a pity. But there are other schools that would accept you out there. So don't lose too much h—"
"Please..."
A soft whisper interrupted him causing him to tilt his head.
"Hmn?"
"P-please..." Hazel cried softly as she collapsed to the ground. "I don't want to be expelled. Please! I-ll help you. You have a reason for doing this right? Just tell me what you want. I'll do my best to help."
"Oh, how saddening~" Kaiser said, trying to sound sarcastic only to fail miserably as his voice only rang cold.
Crouching to her level, he brushed her bangs to the side and smiled coldly.
"You want to be promoted to Class A right? I don't mind helping you a bit, but..." He paused, and when he noticed her eyes regaining a bit of light, he continued "I need you to become a perfect puppet. When I give you instructions, you do them immediately without question."
Hazel's eyes rippled as the last bit of her pride seemed to resurface but before he could even attend to that, she personally suppressed it—her eyes sharp with determination.
"Oh! What an interesting lad!" Kaiser praised with a cunning glint in his eyes.
"Every instruction?" She asked softly.
"You heard right."
Taking a deep breath, she steeled her mind then "Alright. I will take this offer."
A good natured smile appeared on his face like a rising sun as he stood up and offered her his hand.
Grasping it, she allowed him to pull her up before stabilizing herself.
"Now, you'd go back to your dorm. I'll fill you in on the necessary tomorrow." He said, dusting his hands like he had just done some tiresome work.
Amazed by his act, she snorted inwardly, nodded, and headed towards the door.
'Let's put her to a quick test.'
"Oh, one more thing!" He turned and asked with an innocent smile, "What is your room password?"
"Huh?!"
Hazel instantly became confused and alert. " Are you a pervert?! How could you -"
"Answers." Kaiser cut her off coldly.
"Ugh! Damn it! 3-4-5-6-1." She answered reluctantly—deciding against lying.
"I see, Good night young lady Kane."
"Good night, bastard." She replied—though her soft mummur fell on deaf ears.
...
Left alone in the silence, Kaiser reminisced one particular life he lived, his eyes growing hazy as he recalled his acquaintances and the bonds he had made with people. Although he had lost the ability to feel those feelings, there was one he couldn't forget.
"Selene..."
A name rolled softly off his tongue as crystal-like tears fell from his eyes.
'Ah, all is Vanity, isn't it?'
A weird demented smile crept up his lips as he enjoyed the cool breeze of the night.
