Training: Day 2

I thought I had woken up, but everywhere I looked was covered in blinding light. [Welcome Damon, I've been expecting you.] I looked towards where I heard the voice to see a person made of pure light. "Just who the hell are you?" [No need to be hostile. I am the being in charge of the system.]

"What do you mean in charge of the system?" [Haven't you noticed that whenever you got yourself into a pickle, the system was ready to give you skills that you were able to use?] "And you're telling me that's been you this entire time?" [For the most part. The skills I've given you are basic skills you should've gotten after a supporting deity chose you.]

"Ha, hahaha. So you're telling me the spells I'm being given by you I don't have access to because I don't have a supporting deity?" [That's odd. A supporting deity was supposed to choose you. What could he be doing?] "What do you mean by that?" [It doesn't matter for now. I'm surprised that you've become so much stronger in such a short amount of time. Even with these skills you shouldn't have been able to defeat a dragon.] "That's news to me."

[Well, listen to me, Damon. Soon, you will become strong enough for the Deities to watch your adventures; they'd be suspicious of someone who can gain strength at the rate you have.] "That's not really my problem, is it?" [They could send a probability event to fight you; it is equivalent to a Divinity quest.] "So, I'm fucked, is what you're saying?" [Quite the opposite] "What exactly do you mean by that?"

[You have the greatest potential I've seen in eons; after all, look at your [Mana] stat. You could very well become the greatest magic user ever to breathe.] "It would be nice to actually learn magic then; they threw a dragon at me on my first day of training. Though it was just as I imagined from playing DND all day, it was a pain in the ass."

[You're waking up soon; my advice to you is to find [The First Tome of Magic]; it should be somewhere in the castle.] "Thanks for the advice, whoever you are." [You have no need to thank me.] I woke up as suddenly as I passed out to see Alice lying next to me. "Alice?"

I nudged her slightly. She threw her head up. Her eyes looked puffy. Before that moment, I don't think I got a good look at her. She had blonde hair and blue eyes, a soft symmetrical face, and a modest body. I'd go as far as calling her pretty. When she looked at me, though, she smiled and threw her arms around my neck. "I thought you died." It was weird to have a girl caring for me, let alone being sad at the prospect of me not coming back. "Well, I didn't, so stop crying; it makes your beautiful eyes puffy."

I thought it sounded slightly corny, but it worked on cheering her up. "You're taking me out to dinner for scaring me like that." Before I could say, I don't have money, Lancelot and Merlin barged into the room. "We didn't think you would actually take down the dragon; we just wanted to gauge your strength so we could train you better." I looked at them, ready to throw a flare in their face, it already burning in my hand.

"Wait, wait, wait, we will properly teach you now; no need to get hostile." I fell back onto the bed, lacking the energy to move a muscle. "How long was I out?" Merlin waited a second before telling me. "You were asleep for a week." [Flare has evolved to D-grade spell, Fireball]

I blew up half of the castle when I cast that fireball; it was completely worth it. Being threatened to experience all forms of hell if I did that again was not. Soon after I woke up, Merlin brought me to the castle library. "This will be where I'm going to teach you the basics of magic, and we will go out for you to practice spell casting afterwards."

I nodded in acknowledgement because I wasn't sure what I was supposed to say. [System Update] I didn't expect to see an update to the system at this point in time. It made more sense after remembering I was unconscious for a week after fighting the dragon. I opened my system window to see a complete revamp of my stats.

[Status Window]

[Mortal, Name: Damon Asiren]

[Level: 27]

[Grade: 3]

[Divinity: 0]

[Strength: 58]

[Agility: 66]

[Defense: 63]

[Stamina: 75]

[Magic Aptitude: 100%]

[Mana: Immeasurable, 1% active]

My stats had skyrocketed after defeating the dragon, same with my level. I still only was able to use 1% of my Mana, but I'm proud of my growth. Merlin shot at me with a beam of light, purposely missing. "There will be no distractions when I am teaching, is that understood?" I nodded my head swiftly, scared of what he'd do if I didn't agree.

"The first thing I will teach you is the 3 casting methods, which consists of verbal casting, somatic casting, and mental casting. Each is pretty self explanatory to how one casts a spell. Tell me Damon, which method do you use for casting a spell?" I started to think about it, how have I been casting spells?

"I guess I've been doing mental casting." Merlin nodded. "That's what I saw when you fought the dragon, which is impressive. It usually takes a mage a couple of years to learn to cast spells mentally." After he finished the sentence, a bird flew into the window with a letter. He grabbed the letter and read it. "I'll have to end teaching you here today, I have important business to attend to."

I wasn't even paying attention when he left. All I could think about is where could the book that my supporting deity talked about. If he told me to look for it, it must be incredibly powerful. I stopped thinking about it and went to my room, where I laid down and peacefully fell asleep for the day.
