Chapter 38 - A Tender Confession Amidst Lingering Shadows
I couldn't focus. Not on the spreadsheet in front of me, not on the emails piling up, and certainly not on the project deadline looming over my head. Every few minutes, my thighs pressed together involuntarily, seeking relief from the persistent ache that had plagued me since last night.
Since Kaelen had left me wanting.
"Ms. Sterling? Did you hear my question?"
I blinked rapidly, finding Liam Vance standing beside my desk with concerned eyes. How long had he been there?
"I'm sorry," I mumbled, heat rushing to my cheeks. "Could you repeat that?"
A gentle smile crossed his face. "I was asking about the communication plan for the Richardson project. But it can wait if you're busy."
"No, it's fine," I said, straightening in my chair. "I'm just distracted today."
